Psalm 40

1 Dem Musikmeister. Von David. Ein Psalm. Sehnsüchtig habe ich auf Jahwe geharrt; da neigte er sich zu mir und hörte mein Schreien.

For the Leader. A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

2 Er zog mich heraus aus der verderblichen Grube, aus dem kotigen Schlamm, und stellte meine Füße auf einen Felsen, machte meine Tritte fest.

He brought me up also out of the tumultuous pit, out of the miry clay; and He set my feet upon a rock, He established my goings.

3 Er legte mir ein neues Lied in den Mund, einen Lobgesang für unsern Gott. Viele sehen es und fürchten sich und vertrauen auf Jahwe.

And He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God; many shall see, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

4 Wohl dem Manne, der Jahwe zum Gegenstande seines Vertrauens gemacht und sich nicht zu den Trotzigen und zu denen, die zur Lüge abfielen, gewendet hat!

Happy is the man that hath made the LORD his trust, and hath not turned unto the arrogant, nor unto such as fall away treacherously.

5 Zahlreich sind deine Wunder und deine Pläne, die du, Jahwe, mein Gott, für uns ausgeführt hast. Nichts ist dir zu vergleichen! Wollte ich von ihnen verkünden und reden, so sind ihrer zu viel, als daß ich sie aufzählen könnte.

Many things hast Thou done, O LORD my God, even Thy wonderful works, and Thy thoughts toward us; there is none to be compared unto Thee! If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be told.

6 Schlachtopfer und Speisopfer gefallen dir nicht - Ohren hast du mir gegraben; Brandopfer und Sündopfer begehrst du nicht.

Sacrifice and meal-offering Thou hast no delight in; mine ears hast Thou opened; burnt-offering and sin-offering hast Thou not required.

7 Da sprach ich: Siehe, ich komme; in der Buchrolle ist mir Vorschrift gegeben.

Then said I: 'Lo, I am come with the roll of a book which is prescribed for me;

8 Deinen Willen zu thun, mein Gott, ist mir eine Lust, und dein Gesetz ist in meinem Innern.

I delight to do Thy will, O my God; yea, Thy law is in my inmost parts.'

9 Ich verkünde deine Gerechtigkeit in großer Versammlung; fürwahr, meinen Lippen that ich nicht Einhalt - Jahwe, du weißt es!

I have preached righteousness in the great congregation, lo, I did not refrain my lips; O LORD, Thou knowest.

10 Deine Gerechtigkeit verbarg ich nicht in meinem Herzen, redete von deiner Verlässigkeit und deiner Hilfe, verhehlte deine Gnade und Treue der großen Versammlung nicht.

I have not hid Thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared Thy faithfulness and Thy salvation; I have not concealed Thy mercy and Thy truth from the great congregation.

11 Du, Jahwe, wirst deinem Erbarmen gegen mich keinen Einhalt thun, deine Gnade und Treue werden mich immerdar behüten.

Thou, O LORD, wilt not withhold Thy compassions from me; let Thy mercy and Thy truth continually preserve me.

12 Denn Leiden ohne Zahl haben mich umringt; meine Verschuldungen haben mich eingeholt, daß ich nicht mehr sehen kann. Sie sind zahlreicher, als die Haare auf meinem Haupt, und mein Mut hat mich verlassen.

For innumerable evils have compassed me about, mine iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart hath failed me.

13 Laß dir's gefallen, Jahwe, mich zu retten; Jahwe, eile mir zu Hilfe!

Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me; O LORD, make haste to help me.

14 Laß sie insgesamt beschämt und enttäuscht werden, die mir nach dem Leben trachten, es hinwegzuraffen; laß zurückweichen und zu Schanden werden, die mein Unglück wollen.

Let them be ashamed and abashed together that seek after my soul to sweep it away; let them be turned backward and brought to confusion that delight in my hurt.

15 Erstarren mögen ob ihrer Schande, die da rufen: Ha, ha!

Let them be appalled by reason of their shame that say unto me: 'Aha, aha.'

16 Laß jubeln und sich freuen über dich alle, die dich suchen; mögen immerdar rufen: Groß ist Jahwe! die nach deinem Heil verlangen.

Let all those that seek Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee; let such as love Thy salvation say continually: 'The LORD be magnified.'

17 Bin ich auch elend und arm, der Herr wird für mich sorgen. Meine Hilfe und mein Retter bist du; mein Gott, säume nicht!

But, as for me, that am poor and needy, the Lord will account it unto me; Thou art my help and my deliverer; O my God, tarry not.
