1 Mein Sohn, merke auf meine Weisheit, neige meiner Einsicht dein Ohr,
My son, attend unto my wisdom, incline thine ear to my understanding;
2 daß du Überlegung bewahrst, und deine Lippen Erkenntnis behalten.
that thou mayest keep reflection, and that thy lips may preserve knowledge.
3 Denn von Honigseim triefen die Lippen der Fremden, und glätter als Öl ist ihr Gaumen.
For the lips of the strange woman drop honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil;
4 Aber zuletzt ist sie bitter wie Wermut, scharf wie ein zweischneidiges Schwert.
but her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on Sheol. (Sheol h7585)
6 Daß sie ja den Pfad des Lebens verfehle, schweifen ihre Geleise, sie weiß nicht wohin.
Lest she should ponder the path of life, her ways wander, she knoweth not [whither].
7 Nun denn, ihr Söhne, gehorcht mir und weicht nicht ab von den Reden meines Mundes.
And now, children, hearken unto me, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8 Laß deinen Weg fern von ihr sein und nahe dich nicht der Thür ihres Hauses,
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9 daß du nicht anderen deine Jugendblüte preisgebest und deine Jahre einem Grausamen,
lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel;
10 daß sich nicht Fremde von deinem Vermögen sättigen, und der Ertrag deiner Mühen nicht in das Haus eines Auswärtigen komme,
lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, and the fruits of thy toil [come] into the house of a stranger;
11 und du zuletzt stöhnen müssest, wenn dir Leib und Fleisch hinschwinden,
and thou mourn in thine end, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed;
12 und sprechen müssest: Ach! daß ich Zucht gehaßt habe, und mein Herz die Rüge verschmäht hat!
and thou say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof!
13 daß ich nicht der Stimme meiner Lehrer gehorcht und denen, die mich unterwiesen, mein Ohr nicht geneigt habe!
and I have not hearkened unto the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to those that instructed me;
14 Fast wäre ich völlig ins Unglück geraten inmitten der Versammlung und der Gemeinde.
I was well nigh in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15 Trinke Wasser aus deiner Zisterne und was aus deinem Brunnen hervorquillt.
Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 Sollen deine Quellen nach außen überfließen, deine Wasserbäche auf die freien Plätze?
Thy fountains shall be poured forth, as water-brooks in the broadways.
17 Dir allein müssen sie gehören und nicht Fremden neben dir.
Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
18 Dein Born sei gesegnet, daß du Freude habest vom Weibe deiner Jugend.
Let thy fountain be blessed; and have joy of the wife of thy youth.
19 Die liebliche Hinde und anmutige Gazelle ihre Brüste mögen dich allezeit berauschen; durch ihre Liebe mögest du immerdar in Taumel geraten.
As a lovely hind and a graceful roe, let her breasts satisfy thee at all times: be thou ravished continually with her love.
20 Warum aber, mein Sohn, wolltest du durch eine Fremde in Taumel geraten und den Busen einer Auswärtigen umarmen?
And why shouldest thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 Denn eines jeden Wege liegen klar vor den Augen Jahwes, und alle ihre Geleise bahnet er.
For the ways of man are before the eyes of Jehovah, and he pondereth all his paths.
22 Die eignen Verschuldungen fangen ihn, den Gottlosen, und durch die Stricke seiner Sünde wird er festgehalten.
His own iniquities shall take the wicked, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sin.
23 Sterben wird er aus Mangel an Zucht und ob seiner großen Narrheit wird er hintaumeln.
He shall die for want of discipline; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
