1 Mose 31

1 Da kam ihm zu Ohren, welche Reden die Söhne Labans führten: Jakob hat alles an sich gebracht, was unserem Vater gehörte, und von dem, was unserem Vater gehörte, hat er all diesen Reichtum zuwege gebracht.

And he heareth the words of Laban's sons, saying, 'Jacob hath taken all that our father hath; yea, from that which our father hath, he hath made all this honour;'

2 Und Jakob achtete auf die Mienen Labans; der aber bezeigte sich nicht mehr gegen ihn, wie früher.

and Jacob seeth the face of Laban, and lo, it is not with him as heretofore.

3 Da sprach Jahwe zu Jakob: Kehre zurück in das Land deiner Väter und zu deiner Verwandtschaft, so will ich mit dir sein.

And Jehovah saith unto Jacob, 'Turn back unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred, and I am with thee.'

4 Da sandte Jakob hin und ließ Rahel und Lea rufen auf das Feld zu seiner Herde.

And Jacob sendeth and calleth for Rachel and for Leah to the field unto his flock;

5 Da sprach er zu ihnen: Ich sehe wohl, daß mir euer Vater nicht mehr dasselbe Gesicht zeigt, wie früher; aber der Gott meines Vaters war mit mir.

and saith to them, 'I am beholding your father's face — that it is not towards me as heretofore, and the God of my father hath been with me,

6 Ihr wißt, daß ich aus allen meinen Kräften eurem Vater gedient habe.

and ye — ye have known that with all my power I have served your father,

7 Euer Vater aber hat mich betrogen und mir den Lohn zehnmal abgeändert; aber Gott ließ nicht zu, daß er mir Schaden zufügte.

and your father hath played upon me, and hath changed my hire ten times; and God hath not suffered him to do evil with me.

8 Wenn er sprach: die gesprenkelten sollen dein Lohn sein, so warf die ganze Herde gesprenkelte, sprach er dagegen: die gestreiften sollen dein Lohn sein, so warf die ganze Herde gestreifte.

'If he say thus: The speckled are thy hire, then bare all the flock speckled ones; and if he say thus: The ring-streaked are thy hire, then bare all the flock ring-streaked;

9 Und so entzog Gott eurem Vater das Vieh und gab es mir.

and God taketh away the substance of your father, and doth give to me.

10 Zu der Zeit aber, wo die Schafe brünstig wurden, da sah ich deutlich im Traum, wie die Böcke, die die Schafe besprangen, gestreift, gesprenkelt und gescheckt waren.

'And it cometh to pass at the time of the flock conceiving, that I lift up mine eyes and see in a dream, and lo, the he-goats, which are going up on the flock, [are] ring-streaked, speckled, and grisled;

11 Und der Engel Gottes sprach zu mir im Traum: Jakob! Ich antwortete: Hier bin ich!

and the messenger of God saith unto me in the dream, Jacob, and I say, Here [am] I.

12 Da sagte er: Sieh einmal, wie alle Böcke, die die Schafe bespringen, gestreift, gesprenkelt und gescheckt sind. Denn ich habe alles gesehen, was Laban dir anthut.

'And He saith, Lift up, I pray thee, thine eyes, and see — all the he-goats which are going up on the flock [are] ring-streaked, speckled, and grisled, for I have seen all that Laban is doing to thee;

13 Ich bin der Gott von Bethel, woselbst du einen Malstein gesalbt, woselbst du mir ein Gelübde gethan hast. So mache dich nun auf, ziehe aus diesem Lande und kehre zurück in dein Heimatland.

I [am] the God of Bethel where thou hast anointed a standing pillar, where thou hast vowed a vow to me; now, arise, go out from this land, and turn back unto the land of thy birth.'

14 Da erwiderten Rahel und Lea und sprachen zu ihm: Haben wir etwa noch Teil und Erbe im Hause unseres Vaters?

And Rachel answereth — Leah also — and saith to him, 'Have we yet a portion and inheritance in the house of our father?

15 Gelten wir ihm nicht als Fremde, nachdem er uns verkauft und das Geld, das er für uns bekam, längst verzehrt hat?

have we not been reckoned strangers to him? for he hath sold us, and he also utterly consumeth our money;

16 Denn all der Reichtum, den Gott unserem Vater entzogen hat, gehört uns und unseren Kindern. So thue du nur ganz, wie Gott zu dir gesagt hat!

for all the wealth which God hath taken away from our father, it [is] ours, and our children's; and now, all that God hath said unto thee — do.'

17 Da setzte Jakob seine Kinder und seine Weiber auf die Kamele;

And Jacob riseth, and lifteth up his sons and his wives on the camels,

18 sodann führte er all sein Vieh hinweg und alle seine Habe, die er erworben hatte, das Vieh, das er besaß, welches er in Mesopotamien erworben hatte, um sich zu seinem Vater Isaak ins Land Kanaan zu begeben.

and leadeth all his cattle, and all his substance which he hath acquired, the cattle of his getting, which he hath acquired in Padan-Aram, to go unto Isaac his father, to the land of Canaan.

19 Während aber Laban hingegangen war, seine Schafe zu scheren, stahl Rahel den Teraphim ihres Vaters.

And Laban hath gone to shear his flock, and Rachel stealeth the teraphim which her father hath;

20 Und Jakob überlistete Laban, den Aramäer, weil er ihm verheimlichte, daß er fliehen wolle.

and Jacob deceiveth the heart of Laban the Aramaean, because he hath not declared to him that he is fleeing;

21 Also entfloh er mit allem, was ihm gehörte; und er brach auf, setzte über den Strom und schlug die Richtung nach dem Gebirge Gilead ein.

and he fleeth, he and all that he hath, and riseth, and passeth over the River, and setteth his face [toward] the mount of Gilead.

22 Am dritten Tage wurde dem Laban hinterbracht, daß Jakob entflohen sei.

And it is told to Laban on the third day that Jacob hath fled,

23 Da nahm er seine Stammesgenossen mit sich, verfolgte ihn sieben Tagereisen weit und ereilte ihn auf dem Gebirge Gilead.

and he taketh his brethren with him, and pursueth after him a journey of seven days, and overtaketh him in the mount of Gilead.

24 Gott aber kam des Nachts im Traum zu Laban, dem Aramäer, und sprach zu ihm: Hüte dich, Jakob ein böses Wort zu sagen!

And God cometh in unto Laban the Aramaean in a dream of the night, and saith to him, 'Take heed to thyself lest thou speak with Jacob from good unto evil.'

25 Da erreichte Laban den Jakob; Jakob aber hatte sein Zelt auf dem Gebirge aufgeschlagen, während Laban mit seinen Stammesgenossen sein Zelt auf dem Gebirge Gilead aufgeschlagen hatte.

And Laban overtaketh Jacob; and Jacob hath fixed his tent in the mount; and Laban with his brethren have fixed [theirs] in the mount of Gilead.

26 Da sprach Laban zu Jakob: Was soll das heißen, daß du mich überlisten wolltest und führtest meine Töchter fort wie Kriegsgefangene?

And Laban saith to Jacob, 'What hast thou done that thou dost deceive my heart, and lead away my daughters as captives of the sword?

27 Warum bist du heimlich geflohen und täuschtest mich und hast es mich nicht wissen lassen, daß ich dir hätte das Geleite geben können mit Jauchzen und Gesängen, mit Pauken und Harfen,

Why hast thou hidden thyself to flee, and deceivest me, and hast not declared to me, and I send thee away with joy and with songs, with tabret and with harp,

28 und hast mich meine Enkel und Töchter nicht küssen lassen? Ja, du hast thöricht gehandelt!

and hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? — now thou hast acted foolishly in doing [so];

29 Ich hätte es wohl in der Gewalt, schlimm mit euch zu verfahren; aber der Gott deines Vaters hat in der vergangenen Nacht zu mir gesagt: Hüte dich, Jakob ein böses Wort zu sagen!

my hand is to God to do evil with you, but the God of your father yesternight hath spoken unto me, saying, Take heed to thyself from speaking with Jacob from good unto evil.

30 Aber mag es sein, du bist nun einmal fortgegangen, weil du dich gar so sehr nach deiner Heimat sehntest - warum hast du meinen Gott gestohlen?

'And now, thou hast certainly gone, because thou hast been very desirous for the house of thy father; why hast thou stolen my gods?'

31 Da antwortete Jakob und sprach zu Laban: Ja, ich fürchtete mich; denn ich dachte, du könntest mir deine Töchter entreißen.

And Jacob answereth and saith to Laban, 'Because I was afraid, for I said, Lest thou take violently away thy daughters from me;

32 Derjenige, bei dem du deinen Gott findest, der soll nicht am Leben bleiben! Im Beisein unserer Stammesgenossen untersuche, was ich bei mir habe, und nimm dir. Jakob aber wußte nichts davon, daß Rahel ihn gestohlen hatte.

with whomsoever thou findest thy gods — he doth not live; before our brethren discern for thyself what [is] with me, and take to thyself:' and Jacob hath not known that Rachel hath stolen them.

33 Da ging Laban in das Zelt Jakobs und das Zelt Leas und in das Zelt der beiden Leibmägde und fand nichts; dann verließ er das Zelt Leas und trat in das Zelt Rahels.

And Laban goeth into the tent of Jacob, and into the tent of Leah, and into the tent of the two handmaidens, and hath not found; and he goeth out from the tent of Leah, and goeth into the tent of Rachel.

34 Rahel aber hatte den Teraphim genommen, in die Kamelsänfte gelegt und sich darauf gesetzt. Und Laban durchstöberte das ganze Zelt, fand aber nichts.

And Rachel hath taken the teraphim, and putteth them in the furniture of the camel, and sitteth upon them; and Laban feeleth all the tent, and hath not found;

35 Da sprach sie zu ihrem Vater: O Herr, sei nicht böse, wenn ich vor dir nicht aufstehen kann; es ergeht mir, wie es den Frauen ergeht! Und er suchte und suchte, fand aber den Teraphim nicht.

and she saith unto her father, 'Let it not be displeasing in the eyes of my lord that I am not able to rise at thy presence, for the way of women [is] on me;' and he searcheth, and hath not found the teraphim.

36 Jakob aber wurde zornig und schalt Laban. Und Jakob hob an und sprach zu Laban: Was habe ich verschuldet, was habe ich gefehlt, daß du mir so hitzig nachgesetzt bist?

And it is displeasing to Jacob, and he striveth with Laban; and Jacob answereth and saith to Laban, 'What [is] my transgression? what my sin, that thou hast burned after me?

37 Du hast nun meinen ganzen Hausrat durchstöbert - hast du irgend etwas von deinem Hausgerät gefunden? Lege es hierher vor meine und deine Stammesgenossen, damit sie entscheiden, wer von uns beiden recht hat.

for thou hast felt all my vessels: what hast thou found of all the vessels of thy house? set here before my brethren, and thy brethren, and they decide between us both.

38 Zwanzig Jahre sind es nun, daß ich bei dir bin; deine Mutterschafe und deine Ziegen haben nie eine Fehlgeburt gethan, und Widder aus deiner Herde habe ich nicht gegessen.

'These twenty years I [am] with thee: thy ewes and thy she-goats have not miscarried, and the rams of thy flock I have not eaten;

39 Was zerrissen ward, habe ich dir nicht gebracht - ich selbst mußte es ersetzen; von mir fordertest du es, mochte es bei Tage oder bei Nacht geraubt sein.

the torn I have not brought in unto thee — I, I repay it — from my hand thou dost seek it; I have been deceived by day, and I have been deceived by night;

40 Bei Tage verging ich vor Hitze und des Nachts vor Frost, und kein Schlaf kam in meine Augen.

I have been [thus]: in the day consumed me hath drought, and frost by night, and wander doth my sleep from mine eyes.

41 Volle zwanzig Jahre habe ich dir in deinem Hause gedient: vierzehn Jahre um deine beiden Töchter und sechs Jahre um Schafe von dir; aber zehnmal ändertest du meinen Lohn!

'This [is] to me twenty years in thy house: I have served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy flock; and thou changest my hire ten times;

42 Wenn nicht der Gott meines Ahnherrn, der Gott Abrahams, er, den auch Isaak fürchtet, für mich gewesen wäre, - ja dann hättest du mich mit leeren Händen ziehen lassen! Wie ich geplagt war und mich abgearbeitet habe, hat Gott gesehen und darnach in vergangener Nacht entschieden.

unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the Fear of Isaac, had been for me, surely now empty thou hadst sent me away; mine affliction and the labour of my hands hath God seen, and reproveth yesternight.'

43 Da antwortete Laban und sprach zu Jakob: Mein sind die Frauen und mein sind die Kinder und mein ist das Vieh, und alles, was du erblickst, das ist mein. Aber was kann ich nun machen gegenüber diesen meinen Töchtern oder den Kindern, die sie geboren haben?

And Laban answereth and saith unto Jacob, 'The daughters [are] my daughters, and the sons my sons, and the flock my flock, and all that thou art seeing [is] mine; and to my daughters — what do I to these to-day, or to their sons whom they have born?

44 Aber wohlan, laß uns einen Vertrag miteinander schließen; der soll dann Zeuge sein zwischen mir und dir.

and now, come, let us make a covenant, I and thou, and it hath been for a witness between me and thee.'

45 Hierauf nahm Jakob einen Stein und richtete ihn auf als Malstein.

And Jacob taketh a stone, and lifteth it up [for] a standing pillar;

46 Da sprach Jakob zu seinen Stammesgenossen: Lest Steine auf! Da lasen sie Steine auf und errichteten einen Steinhaufen; dann hielten sie dort auf dem Steinhaufen das Mahl.

and Jacob saith to his brethren, 'Gather stones,' and they take stones, and make a heap; and they eat there on the heap;

47 Und Laban nannte ihn Jegar Sahadutha; Jakob aber nannte ihn Galed.

and Laban calleth it Jegar-Sahadutha; and Jacob hath called it Galeed.

48 Da sprach Laban: Dieser Steinhaufe ist nunmehr Zeuge zwischen mir und dir - deshalb nannte er ihn Galed -

And Laban saith, 'This heap [is] witness between me and thee to-day;' therefore hath he called its name Galeed;

49 und die Warte, indem er sprach: Jahwe möge Wache halten zwischen mir und dir, wenn wir einander ferngerückt sind.

Mizpah also, for he said, 'Jehovah doth watch between me and thee, for we are hidden one from another;

50 Wenn du etwa meine Töchter schlecht behandeln oder noch mehr Weiber zu meinen Töchtern hinzunehmen wolltest - wenn dann niemand bei uns ist: bedenke wohl, Gott ist Zeuge zwischen mir und dir!

if thou afflict my daughters, or take wives beside my daughters — there is no man with us — see, God [is] witness between me and thee.'

51 Da sprach Laban zu Jakob: Wohlan, dieser Steinhaufe und der Malstein, den ich aufgerichtet habe zwischen mir und dir -

And Laban saith to Jacob, 'Lo, this heap, and lo, the standing pillar which I have cast between me and thee;

52 Zeuge soll sein dieser Steinhaufe und Zeuge soll sein der Malstein; weder ich darf über diesen Steinhaufen hinausgehen zu dir hinüber, noch darfst du über diesen Steinhaufen und diesen Malstein in böser Absicht hinausgehen zu mir herüber.

this heap [is] witness, and the standing pillar [is] witness, that I do not pass over this heap unto thee, and that thou dost not pass over this heap and this standing pillar unto me — for evil;

53 Der Gott Abrahams und der Gott Nahors sei Richter zwischen uns, der Gott ihres Vaters. Jakob aber schwur bei dem, den sein Vater Isaak fürchtete.

the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, doth judge between us — the God of their father,' and Jacob sweareth by the Fear of his father Isaac.

54 Hierauf schlachtete Jakob Opfertiere auf dem Berge und lud seine Stammesgenossen ein, das Mahl zu halten. Da hielten sie das Mahl und übernachteten auf dem Berge.

And Jacob sacrificeth a sacrifice in the mount, and calleth to his brethren to eat bread, and they eat bread, and lodge in the mount;

55 Am andern Morgen früh aber küßte Laban seine Enkel und seine Töchter und nahm Abschied von ihnen. Sodann brach Laban auf und kehrte zurück an seinen Wohnsitz.

and Laban riseth early in the morning, and kisseth his sons and his daughters, and blesseth them; and Laban goeth on, and turneth back to his place.
