2 Samuel 11
1 Im folgenden Jahre aber sandte David um die Zeit, da die Könige ausgezogen waren, Joab mit seinen Untergebenen und ganz Israel aus. Sie verheerten das Land der Ammoniter und belagerten Rabba, während David in Jerusalem blieb.
And when the yeere was expired in the time when Kinges goe forth to battell, Dauid sent Ioab, and his seruantes with him, and all Israel, who destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah: but Dauid remayned in Ierusalem.
2 Nun traf es sich einst des Abends, daß David, als er sich von seinem Lager erhoben hatte und auf dem Dach des Königspalastes spazieren ging, vom Dache aus ein Weib sich waschen sah. Das Weib war von sehr schönem Äußeren.
And when it was euening tide, Dauid arose out of his bed, and walked vpon the roofe of the Kings palace: and from the roofe he sawe a woman washing her selfe: and the woman was very beautifull to looke vpon.
3 David schickte hin und erkundigte sich nach dem Weibe. Man sagte ihm: Das ist ja Bathseba, die Tochter Eliams, das Weib des Hethiters Uria.
And Dauid sent and inquired what woman it was: and one sayde, Is not this Bath-sheba the daughter of Eliam, wife to Vriah the Hittite?
4 Nun schickte David Boten hin und ließ sie holen. Sie kam zu ihm, und er wohnte ihr bei, da sie sich von ihrer Unreinigkeit wieder rein gemacht hatte. Darauf kehrte sie nach Hause zurück.
Then Dauid sent messengers, and tooke her away: and she came vnto him and he lay with her: (now she was purified from her vncleannes) and she returned vnto her house.
5 Aber das Weib war schwanger geworden. Da sandte sie hin und ließ David melden: Ich bin schwanger.
And the woman conceiued: therefore shee sent and tolde Dauid, and sayd, I am with childe.
6 Da schickte David zu Joab: Schicke mir den Hethiter Uria her! Joab schickte Uria zu David.
Then Dauid sent to Ioab, saying, Send me Vriah the Hittite. And Ioab sent Vriah to Dauid.
7 Als nun Uria bei ihm eintrat, erkundigte David sich nach dem Ergehen Joabs und dem Ergehen des Heers und wie es im Kriege stehe;
And when Vriah came vnto him, Dauid demanded him how Ioab did, and howe the people fared, and how the warre prospered.
8 dann sagte David zu Uria: Geh hinunter in dein Haus und wasche dir die Füße! Und als Uria den Königspalast verließ, wurde ein königliches Geschenk hinter ihm her getragen.
Afterward Dauid said to Vriah, Go downe to thine house, and wash thy feete. So Vriah departed out of the Kings palace, and the king sent a present after him.
9 Aber Uria legte sich am Eingange des Königspalastes bei allen andern Dienern seines Herrn nieder und ging nicht hinab in sein Haus.
But Vriah slept at the doore of the Kings palace with all the seruants of his lord, and went not downe to his house.
10 Als man nun David meldete: Uria ist nicht hinab in sein Haus gegangen, fragte David Uria: Du kommst doch von der Reise - warum gehst du nicht hinab in dein Haus?
Then they tolde Dauid, saying, Vriah went not downe to his house: and Dauid saide vnto Vriah, Commest thou not from thy iourney? why didst thou not go downe to thine house?
11 Uria erwiderte David: Die Lade und Israel und Juda weilen in Laubhütten, und mein Herr Joab und die Untergebenen meines Herrn lagern auf freiem Felde - und ich sollte mich nach Hause begeben, um zu essen und zu trinken und bei meinem Weibe zuliegen? So wahr Jahwe lebt, und so wahr du lebst, so etwas thue ich nicht!
Then Vriah answered Dauid, The Arke and Israel, and Iudah dwell in tents: and my lord Ioab and the seruants of my lord abide in the open fields: shall I then go into mine house to eate and drinke, and lie with my wife? by thy life, and by the life of thy soule, I will not do this thing.
12 Da sprach David zu Uria: Du kannst auch heute hier bleiben, morgen aber entlasse ich dich! So blieb Uria an jenem Tag in Jerusalem.
Then Dauid sayd vnto Vriah, Tary yet this day, and to morow I will send thee away. So Vriah abode in Ierusalem that day, and the morowe.
13 Am folgenden Morgen aber lud ihn David ein, daß er vor ihm aß und trank, und machte ihn trunken. Aber am Abend ging er hinaus, um sich auf sein Lager bei den Dienern seines Herrn zu legen; in sein Haus ging er jedoch nicht hinab.
Then Dauid called him, and hee did eate and drinke before him, and he made him drunke: and at euen he went out to lie on his couch with the seruants of his Lord, but went not downe to his house.
14 Am folgenden Morgen aber schrieb David einen Brief an Joab und schickte ihn durch Uria hin.
And on the morowe Dauid wrote a letter to Ioab, and sent it by the hand of Vriah.
15 In den Brief schrieb er folgendes: Stellt Uria im heftigsten Kampfe vorne hin und zieht euch dann von ihm zurück, damit er in der Schlacht den Tod findet!
And he wrote thus in the letter, Put ye Vriah in the forefront of the strength of the battell, and recule ye backe from him, that he may be smitten, and die.
16 So stellte denn Joab bei der Belagerung der Stadt Uria an eine Stelle, von der er wußte, daß dort tapfere Leute standen.
So when Ioab besieged the citie, he assigned Vriah vnto a place, where he knewe that strong men were.
17 Als dann die in der Stadt bei einem Ausfalle Joab angriffen, fielen etliche von dem Kriegsvolke, von den Unterthanen Davids; dabei fand auch der Hethiter Uria den Tod.
And the men of the citie came out, and fought with Ioab: and there fell of the people of the seruants of Dauid, and Vriah the Hittite also dyed.
18 Da sandte Joab hin und meldete David den ganzen Verlauf des Kampfs
Then Ioab sent and tolde Dauid all the things concerning the warre,
19 und zwar gab er dem Abgesandten folgende Weisung: Wenn du dem Könige den ganzen Hergang des Kampfs bis zu Ende berichtet hast,
And he charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an ende of telling all the matters of the warre vnto the King,
20 und der König alsdann aufbraust und dich fragt: Warum seid ihr zum Treffen so nahe an die Stadt herangerückt? Wußtet ihr nicht, daß sie von der Mauer herabschießen?
And if the kings anger arise, so that he say vnto thee, Wherefore approched ye vnto the citie to fight? knewe ye not that they would hurle from the wall?
21 Wer hat Abimelech, den Sohn Jerubbaals, erschlagen? Hat nicht ein Weib in Thebez einen oberen Mühlstein von der Mauer aus auf ihn herabgeworfen, daß er den Tod fand? Warum seid ihr so nahe an die Mauer herangerückt? - so sprich: auch dein Diener Uria, der Hethiter, ist ums Leben gekommen!
Who smote Abimelech sonne of Ierubesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a milstone vpon him from the wall, and he died in Thebez? why went you nie the wall? Then say thou, Thy seruant Vriah the Hittite is also dead.
22 Der Angesandte ging, und als er ankam und David alles, was Joab ihm aufgetragen, nämlich den ganzen Hergang des Kampfes.
So the messenger went, and came and shewed Dauid all that Ioab had sent him for.
23 Da antwortete der Angesandte David: Ja, die Leute waren uns überlegen und waren bis aufs freie Feld gegen uns vorgedrungen; daher mußten wir an ihnen bleiben bis vor das Stadtthor hin.
And the messenger said vnto Dauid, Certainely the men preuailed against vs, and came out vnto vs into the field, but we pursued them vnto the entring of the gate.
24 Da aber schossen die Schützen von der Mauer herab auf deine Knechte, so daß von des Königs Knechten etwa achtzehn Mann den Tod fanden, und auch dein Knecht Uria, der Hethiter, fand den Tod.
But the shooters shot from ye wall against thy seruants, and some of the Kings seruants be dead: and thy seruant Vriah the Hittite is also dead.
25 Da sprach David zu dem Abgesandten: Richte Joab aus: Laß dich das nicht anfechten, denn das Schwert friß bald so, bald so; kämpfe wacker gegen die Stadt und zerstöre sie! - sprich ihm so Mut ein.
Then Dauid said vnto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say vnto Ioab, Let not this thing trouble thee: for the sworde deuoureth one as well as another: make thy battell more strong against the citie and destroy it, and encourage thou him.
26 Als nun Urias Weib vernahm, daß ihr Mann Uria gefallen sei, betrauerte sie ihren Gemahl.
And when the wife of Vriah heard that her husband Vriah was dead, she mourned for her husband.
27 Als aber die Trauerzeit vorüber war, schickte David hin und führte sie heim in seinen Palast, und sie ward sein Weib und gebar ihm einen Sohn. Aber Jahwe mißfiel die Handlungsweise Davids,
So when the mourning was past, Dauid sent and tooke her into his house, and shee became his wife, and bare him a sonne: but ye thing that Dauid had done, displeased the Lord.
