1 Es sprachen aber die Prophetenjünger zu Elisa: Wie du siehst, ist der Raum, wo wir vor dir sitzen, zu eng für uns;
Forsothe the sones of prophetis seiden to Elisee, Lo! the place in which we dwellen bifor thee, is streiyt to vs;
2 laß uns an den Jordan gehen und dort ein jeder einen Balken holen, damit wir uns dort eine Stätte herrichten, wo wir uns niederlassen können. Er sprach: Gehet hin!
go we `til to Jordan, and ech man take of the wode `a mater for hym silf, that we bild to vs here a place to dwelle.
3 Einer von ihnen aber bat: Sei so gut und begleite deine Knechte! Da sprach er: Gut, ich will mitgehen.
Which Elisee seide, Go ye. And oon of hem seide, Therfor `and thou come with thi seruauntis. He answeride, Y schal come. And he yede with hem.
4 Also ging er mit ihnen. Als sie nun zum Jordan gelangt waren, hieben sie Stämme um.
And whanne thei `hadden come to Jordan, thei hewiden trees.
5 Während nun einer von ihnen einen Balken fällte, fiel das Eisen ins Wasser. Da schrie er und rief: Ach, Herr! es ist noch dazu entlehnt!
Sotheli it bifelde, that whanne `o man hadde kit doun mater, the yrun of the axe felde in to the watir; and he criede, and seide, Alas! alas! alas! my lord, and Y hadde take this same thing bi borewing.
6 Aber der Mann Gottes sprach: Wohin ist es gefallen? Als er ihm nun die Stelle gezeigt hatte, schnitt er einen Stock ab, stieß dort hinein und machte das Eisen schwimmen.
Sotheli the man of God seide, Where felde it? And he schewide to hym the place. Therfor he kittide doun a tree, and sente thidur; and the yrun fletide.
7 Sodann sprach er: Hole dir's herauf! Da langte er hin und holte es sich.
And he seide, Take thou. Which helde forth the hond, and took it.
8 Während nun der König von Aram Krieg mit Israel führte, traf er Verabredung mit seinen Dienern und gebot: An dem und dem Orte müßt ihr euch in den Hinterhalt legen!
Forsothe the kyng of Syrie fauyte ayens Israel; and he took counseil with hise seruauntis, and seide, Sette we buschementis in this place and that.
9 Aber der Mann Gottes sandte zum Könige von Israel und ließ ihm sagen: Hüte dich, an diesem Orte vorüberzuziehen; denn dort sind die Aramäer versteckt.
Therfor the man of God sente to the kyng of Israel, and seide, Be war, lest thou passe to that place, for men of Sirie ben there in buschementis.
10 Darauf sandte der König von Israel hin an den Ort, den ihm der Mann Gottes bezeichnet hatte. Und so warnte er ihn jedesmal, und er war dann stets auf seiner Hut an dem betreffenden Ort, und das geschah nicht nur einmal oder zweimal.
Therfor the kyng of Israel sente to the place, which the man of God hadde seid to him, and bifor ocupiede it, and kepte hym silf there not onys, nether twies.
11 Da geriet der König von Aram in Aufregung über diese Sache, berief seine Diener und sprach zu ihnen: Könnt mir mir denn nicht sagen, wer uns dem Könige von Israel verrät?
And the herte of the kyng of Sirie was disturblid for this thing; and whanne hise seruauntis weren clepide togidere, he seide, Whi schewen ye not to me, who is my tretour anentis the kyng of Israel?
12 Da antwortete einer von seinen Dienern: Nicht doch, mein Herr König, sondern der Prophet Elisa, der in Israel ist, teilt dem Könige von Israel die Worte mit, die du in deinem Schlafzimmer redest!
And oon of hise seruauntis seide, Nay, my lord the kyng, but Elisee, the prophete, which is in Israel, schewith to the kyng of Israel alle thingis, what euer thingis thou spekist in thi closet.
13 Da befahl er: Geht hin und seht zu, wo er ist, daß ich hinsende und ihn fangen lasse. Als man ihm nun meldete: Er ist in Dothan!
And the kyng seide to hem, `Go ye, and se, where he is, that Y sende, and take hym. And thei telden to him, and seiden, Lo! he dwellith in Dothaym.
14 Da sandte er dorthin Rosse und Wagen und eine starke Kriegsschar; die kamen bei Nacht hin und umzingelten die Stadt.
And the kyng sente thidur horsis, and charis, and the strengthe of the oost; whiche, whanne thei hadden come bi nyyt, cumpassiden the citee.
15 Als er nun am andern Morgen früh heraustrat, lag da eine Kriegsschar rings um die Stadt mit Rossen und Wagen. Sein Diener aber sprach zu ihm: O weh, Herr! Was wollen wir nun anfangen?
Sotheli the mynystre of the man of God roos eerli, and yede out, and he siy an oost in the cumpas of the citee, and horsis, and charis. And he telde to the man of God, and seide, Alas! alas! alas! my lord, what schulen we do?
16 Er aber sprach: Fürchte dich nicht; denn derer sind mehr, die bei uns sind, als derer, die bei Ihnen sind.
And he answeride, Nile thou drede; for mo ben with vs than with hem.
17 Und Elisa betete und sprach: Jahwe, öffne ihm doch die Augen, daß er sehe! Da öffnete Jahwe dem Diener die Augen, und er sah, wie der Berg rings um Elisa her mit Rossen und feurigen Wagen angefüllt war.
And whanne Elisee hadde preied, he seide, Lord, opene thou the iyen of this child, that he se. And the Lord openyde the iyen of the child, and he siy. And, lo! the hil ful of horsis, and of charis of fier, in the cumpas of Elisee.
18 Als sie nun gegen ihn anrückten, betete Elisa zu Jahwe und sprach: Schlage doch diese Leute mit Blindheit! Da schlug er sie mit Blindheit, wie Elisa gebeten hatte.
Sotheli the enemyes camen doun to hym; forsothe Elisee preiede to the Lord, and seide, Y biseche, smyte thou this folc with blyndenesse. And the Lord smoot hem, that thei sien not, bi the word of Elisee.
19 Darauf sprach Elisa zu ihnen: Dies ist nicht der richtige Weg und dies nicht die richtige Stadt. Folgt mir, so will ich euch zu dem Manne führen, den ihr sucht! Sodann führte er sie nach Samaria.
Forsothe Elisee seide to hem, This is not the weie, nether this is the citee; sue ye me, and Y schal schewe to you the man, whom ye seken. And he ledde hem into Samarie.
20 Sowie sie aber nach Samaria gelangt waren, sprach Elisa: Jahwe, öffne ihnen die Augen, daß sie sehen! Da öffnete ihnen Jahwe die Augen, und sie sahen sich plötzlich mitten in Samaria.
And whanne thei hadden entrid into Samarie, Elisee seide, Lord, opene thou the iyen of these men, that thei see. And the Lord openyde her iyen, and thei siyen, that thei weren in the myddis of Samarie.
21 Als nun der König von Israel sie erblickte, fragte er Elisa: Soll ich sie niedermetzeln, mein Vater?
And the kyng of Israel, whanne he hadde seyn hem, seide to Elisee, My fadir, whether Y schal smyte hem?
22 Er aber antwortete: Du darfst sie nicht niedermetzeln. Pflegst du etwa die niederzumetzeln, die du mit deinem Schwert und Bogen zu Gefangenen gemacht hast? Setze ihnen Speise und Wasser vor, daß sie essen und trinken; dann mögen sie zu ihrem Herrn ziehen.
And he seide, Thou schalt not smyte hem, for thou hast not take hem bi thi swerd and bouwe, that thou smyte hem; but sette thou breed and watir bifor hem, that thei ete and drynke, and go to her lord.
23 Da ließ er ein großes Mahl für sie zurichten, und als sie gegessen und getrunken hatten, entließ er sie, und sie zogen zu ihrem Herrn. Seitdem kamen keine Streifscharen der Aramäer mehr ins Land Israel.
And `greet makyng redi of metis was set forth to hem; and thei eten, and drunken. And the kyng lefte hem, and thei yeden to her lord; and theues of Sirie camen no more in to the lond of Israel.
24 Darnach begab es sich, daß Benhadad, der König von Aram, seine ganze Heeresmacht zusammenzog und heranrückte und Samaria belagerte.
Forsothe it was don after these thingis, Benadab, king of Sirie, gaderide alle his oost, and stiede, and bisegide Samarie.
25 Da entstand eine große Hungersnot zu Samaria, und es geriet in solche Bedrängnis, daß ein Eselskopf achtzig Silbersekel und ein Viertel Kab Taubenmist fünf Silbersekel galt.
And greet hungur was maad in Samarie; and so long it was bisegid, til the heed of an asse were seeld for fourescore platis of siluer, and the fourthe part of a mesure clepid cabus of the crawe of culueris was seeld for fyue platis of siluer.
26 Als nun einst der König von Israel auf der Mauer einherging, schrie ihn ein Weib an und bat: Hilf mir, mein Herr König!
And whanne the kyng of Israel passide bi the wal, sum womman criede to hym, and seide, My lord the kyng, saue thou me.
27 Er aber sprach: Hilft dir Jahwe nicht, woher soll ich dir helfen? Von der Tenne oder von der Kelter?
Which seide, Nai, the Lord saue thee; wherof may Y saue thee? of cornfloor, ethir of pressour? And the kyng seide to hir, What wolt thou to thee?
28 Sodann fragte sie der König: Was hast du? Sie antwortete: Dieses Weib da sprach zu mir: Gieb deinen Sohn her, daß wir ihn heute verzehren; morgen wollen wir dann meinen Sohn verzehren!
And sche answeride, This womman seide to me, Yyue thi sone, that we ete hym to dai, and we schulen ete my sone to morewe.
29 So kochten wir denn meinen Sohn und verzehrten ihn. Als ich aber am andern Tage zu ihr sagte: Gieb deinen Sohn her, daß wir ihn verzehren! da hielt sie ihren Sohn versteckt.
Therfor we setheden my sone, and eten him. And Y seide to hir in the tother day, Yyue thi sone, that we ete hym; and she hidde hir sone.
30 Als nun der König das Weib so reden hörte, zerriß er seine Kleider, während er auf der Mauer stand; da gewahrte das Volk, daß er darunter ein härenes Gewand auf seinem Leibe trug.
And whanne the kyng hadde herd this, he to-rente hise clothis, and passide bi the wal; and al the puple siy the heire, `with which the kyng was clothid at the fleisch with ynne.
31 Und er sprach: Gott möge mir anthun, was er will, wenn das Haupt Elisas, des Sohnes Saphats, heute auf seinen Schultern bleibt!
And the kyng seide, God do to me these thingis, and adde these thingis, if the heed of Elise, sone of Saphat, schal stonde on hym to dai.
32 Während nun Elisa in seinem Hause saß und die Vornehmen bei ihm saßen, sandte er einen Mann vor sich her. Aber ehe noch der Bote des Königs zu ihm gelangte, sagte er zu den Vornehmen: Habt ihr gesehen, daß dieser Mördersohn hergesandt hat, um mir den Kopf abschlagen zu lassen? Seht zu, sobald der Bote kommt, verschließt die Thür und stemmt euch mit der Thüre gegen ihn! Hinter ihm drein sind ja schon die Tritte seines Herrn zu vernehmen.
Sotheli Elisee sat in his hows, and elde men saten with hym; `therfor he biforsente a man, and bifor that thilke messanger cam, Elisee seide to the elde men, Whether ye witen, that the sone of manquellere sente hidur, that myn heed be gird of? Therfor se ye, whanne the messanger cometh, close ye the dore, and `suffre ye not hym to entre; for, lo! the sown of the feet of his lord is bihynde hym.
33 Während er noch mit ihnen redete, kam alsbald der König zu ihm hinab und sprach: Sieh nun, welches Unheil Jahwe verhängt! Was soll ich da noch länger auf Jahwe harren?
And yit `while he spak to hem, the messanger that cam to hym apperide; and the kyng seide, Lo! so greet yuel is of the Lord; sotheli what more schal Y abide of the Lord?
