1 Und sie blieben drei Jahre ruhig, ohne daß es zwischen Aram und Israel zum Kampfe kam.
They continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.
2 Im dritten Jahr aber zog Josaphat, der König von Juda, hinab zum Könige von Israel.
In the third year, Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.
3 Und der König von Israel sprach zu seinen Dienern: Ihr wißt ja doch, daß Ramoth in Gilead uns gehört; wir aber sitzen müßig, anstatt es dem Könige von Aram zu entreißen!
The king of Israel said to his servants, “You know that Ramoth Gilead is ours, and we do nothing, and don’t take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?”
4 Hierauf sprach er zu Josaphat: Willst du mit mir in den Krieg ziehen nach Ramoth in Gilead? Da antwortete Josaphat dem Könige von Israel: Ich will sein wie du, mein Volk wie dein Volk, meine Rosse wie deine Rosse!
He said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to battle to Ramoth Gilead?” Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”
5 Josaphat aber sprach zum Könige von Israel: Frage doch erst, was Jahwe dazu sagt!
Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for Yahweh’s word.”
6 Da versammelte der König von Israel die Propheten, ungefähr vierhundert Mann, und fragte sie: Soll ich wider Ramoth in Gilead in den Krieg ziehen oder soll ich es unterlassen? Sie antworteten: Ziehe hin, damit es Jahwe in die Gewalt des Königs gebe!
Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Should I go against Ramoth Gilead to battle, or should I refrain?” They said, “Go up; for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
7 Josaphat aber sprach: Ist denn hier weiter kein Prophet Jahwes, daß wir ihn befragen können?
But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there here a prophet of Yahweh, that we may inquire of him?”
8 Der König von Israel aber antwortete Josaphat: Noch einer ist da, durch den wir Jahwe befragen könnten; aber ich bin ihm gram, denn er pflegt über mich nicht Gutes zu weissagen, sondern Schlimmes: Micha, der Sohn Jimlas. Josaphat aber sprach: Der König soll nicht also reden!
The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Yahweh, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” Jehoshaphat said, “Don’t let the king say so.”
9 Da rief der König von Israel einen Kämmerer und befahl: Hole schleunigst Micha, den Sohn Jimlas!
Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, “Quickly get Micaiah the son of Imlah.”
10 Während nun der König von Israel und Josaphat, der König von Juda, angethan mit purpurnen Kleidern am Eingange des Thores von Samaria ein jeglicher auf seinem Throne saßen, und alle Propheten vor ihnen weissagten,
Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.
11 machte sich Zedekia, der Sohn Kenaanas, eiserne Hörner und rief: So spricht Jahwe: Mit solchen wirst du die Aramäer niederstoßen, bis du sie vernichtet hast!
Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made himself horns of iron, and said, “Yahweh says, ‘With these you will push the Syrians, until they are consumed.’”
12 Und sämtliche Propheten weissagten ebenso und sprachen: Ziehe hin nach Ramoth in Gilead, und das Gelingen kann dir nicht fehlen; Jahwe wird es schon in die Gewalt des Königs geben!
All the prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramoth Gilead and prosper; for Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
13 Der Bote aber, der hingegangen war, Micha zu rufen, sprach zu ihm also: Sieh', die Propheten haben dem König einstimmig Gutes verkündigt; laß doch dein Wort sein wie das Wort eines von ihnen und rede Gutes!
The messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “See now, the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak good.”
14 Micha aber sprach: So wahr Jahwe lebt: nur was Jahwe zu mir sagen wird, das will ich reden!
Micaiah said, “As Yahweh lives, what Yahweh says to me, that I will speak.”
15 Als er nun zum Könige kam, fragte ihn der König: Micha, sollen wir nach Ramoth in Gilead in den Krieg ziehen oder sollen wir es unterlassen? Da antwortete er ihm: Zieh nur hin, und das Gelingen kann dir nicht fehlen; Jahwe wird es schon in die Gewalt des Königs geben.
When he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall we forbear?” He answered him, “Go up and prosper; and Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
16 Der König aber sprach zu ihm: Wie oft soll ich dich beschwören, daß du mir im Namen Jahwes nichts als die Wahrheit verkündigen sollst?
The king said to him, “How many times do I have to adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in Yahweh’s name?”
17 Da sprach er: Ich sah ganz Israel zerstreut auf den Bergen, wie Schafe, die keinen Hirten haben. Jahwe aber sprach: Diese haben keinen Herrn; sie mögen unversehrt ein jeglicher nach seinem Hause zurückkehren!
He said, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. Yahweh said, ‘These have no master. Let them each return to his house in peace.’”
18 Der König von Israel aber sprach zu Josaphat: Habe ich dir nicht gesagt: Er weissagt nicht Gutes über mich, sondern Böses?
The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”
19 Da sprach er: Nicht doch! Vernimm das Wort Jahwes! Ich sah Jahwe auf seinem Throne sitzen und das ganze Himmelsheer zu seiner Rechten und Linken bei ihm stehen.
Micaiah said, “Therefore hear Yahweh’s word. I saw Yahweh sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.
20 Und Jahwe sprach: Wer will Ahab bethören, daß er zu Felde ziehe und zu Ramoth in Gilead falle? Und der eine sagte dies, der andere sagte das.
Yahweh said, ‘Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ One said one thing, and another said another.
21 Da trat der Geist hervor, stellte sich vor Jahwe und sprach: Ich will ihn bethören. Jahwe aber fragte ihn: Womit?
A spirit came out and stood before Yahweh, and said, ‘I will entice him.’
22 Da antwortete er: Ich will ausgehen und zum Lügengeiste werden in aller seiner Propheten Munde! Er aber sprach: Ja, du wirst die Bethörung vollbringen! Gehe aus und thue also!
Yahweh said to him, ‘How?’ He said, ‘I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ He said, ‘You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.’
23 So hat nun, wie du siehst, Jahwe in den Mund aller dieser deiner Propheten einen Lügengeist gelegt, während doch Jahwe Unheil über dich beschlossen hat.
Now therefore, behold, Yahweh has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and Yahweh has spoken evil concerning you.”
24 Da trat Zedekia, der Sohn Kenaanas, herzu, schlug Micha auf den Backen und sprach: Auf welchem Wege wäre denn der Geist Jahwes von mir gewichen, um mit dir zu reden?
Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, “Which way did Yahweh’s Spirit go from me to speak to you?”
25 Micha aber sprach: Du wirst es erfahren an dem Tag, an welchem du aus einer Kammer in die andere gehen wirst, um dich zu verstecken!
Micaiah said, “Behold, you will see on that day when you go into an inner room to hide yourself.”
26 Der König von Israel aber befahl dem Kämmerer: Nimm Micha und bringe ihn zurück zu Amon, dem Befehlshaber über die Stadt, und zum Prinzen Joas
The king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son.
27 und melde: So spricht der König: Setzt diesen in den Kerker ein und speist ihn mit kärglichem Brot und kärglichem Wasser, bis ich wohlbehalten heimkomme.
Say, ‘The king says, “Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.”’”
28 Da sprach Micha: Kehrst du wirklich wohlbehalten wieder, so hat Jahwe nicht durch mich geredet! Und er sprach: Hört, ihr Völker, insgesamt!
Micaiah said, “If you return at all in peace, Yahweh has not spoken by me.” He said, “Listen, all you people!”
29 Also zog der König von Israel mit Josaphat, dem Könige von Juda, nach Ramoth in Gilead.
So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.
30 Und der König von Israel sprach zu Josaphat: ich will mich verkleiden und so in den Kampf gehen; du aber behalte deine königlichen Kleider an. Und der König von Israel verkleidete sich und ging in den Kampf.
The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself and go into the battle, but you put on your robes.” The king of Israel disguised himself and went into the battle.
31 Der König von Aram aber hatte den zweiunddreißig Obersten seiner Streitwagen befohlen: Ihr sollt mit niemandem kämpfen, er sei gering oder vornehm, außer allein mit dem Könige von Israel!
Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, “Don’t fight with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel.”
32 Als nun die Obersten der Wagen den Josaphat erblickten, dachten sie: das kann nur der König von Israel sein! und wandten sich gegen ihn zum Angriff; aber Josaphat schrie.
When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “Surely that is the king of Israel!” and they came over to fight against him. Jehoshaphat cried out.
33 Sobald jedoch die Obersten der Wagen merkten, daß es nicht der König von Israel war, ließen sie von ihm ab und lenkten wieder um.
When the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.
34 Ein Mann aber hatte von ungefähr den Bogen gespannt und traf den König von Israel zwischen Ringelgurt und Panzer. Da gebot er seinem Wagenlenker: Lenke um und bringe mich aus dem Kampfgetümmel hinaus, denn ich bin verwundet!
A certain man drew his bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around, and carry me out of the battle, for I am severely wounded.”
35 Aber der Kampf entbrannte jenes Tags immer heftiger, und der König stand aufrecht im Wagen den Aramäern gegenüber bis zum Abend, und das Blut aus der Wunde ergoß sich in das Innere des Wagens; am Abend aber starb er.
The battle increased that day. The king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, and died at evening. The blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot.
36 Da erscholl bei Sonnenuntergang durch das Heer der Ruf: Jeder nach seiner Stadt und nach seinem Lande -
A cry went throughout the army about the going down of the sun, saying, “Every man to his city, and every man to his country!”
37 denn der König ist tot! Und sie kamen nach Samaria und begruben den König zu Samaria.
So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
38 Als man aber den Wagen am Teiche von Samaria abspülte, leckten die Hunde sein Blut, und die Huren badeten sich darin nach dem Worte, das Jahwe geredet hatte.
They washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood where the prostitutes washed themselves, according to Yahweh’s word which he spoke.
39 Was aber sonst noch von Ahab zu sagen ist und alles, was er ausgeführt hat, und das Elfenbeinhaus, das er gebaut, und alle Städte, die er befestigt hat, das ist ja aufgezeichnet im Buche der Geschichte der Könige von Israel.
Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities that he built, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
40 Und Ahab legte sich zu seinen Vätern, und sein Sohn Ahasja ward König an seiner Statt.
So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.
41 Und Josaphat, der Sohn Asas, ward König über Juda im vierten Jahre Ahabs, des Königs von Israel.
Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.
42 Fünfunddreißig Jahre war Josaphat alt, als er König ward, und fünfundzwanzig Jahre regierte er zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter aber hieß Asuba, die Tochter Silhis.
Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
43 Und er wandelte ganz auf dem Wege seines Vaters Asa und wich nicht von ihm ab, indem er that, was Jahwe wohlgefiel. Nur wurden die Höhen nicht abgeschafft; noch immer opferte und räucherte das Volk auf den Höhen.
He walked in all the way of Asa his father. He didn’t turn away from it, doing that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes. However, the high places were not taken away. The people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
44 Und Josaphat hielt Frieden mit dem Könige von Israel.
Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.
45 Was aber sonst noch von Josaphat zu sagen ist und seine tapferen Thaten, die er gethan, und wie er Krieg geführt hat, das ist ja aufgezeichnet im Buche der Geschichte der Könige von Juda.
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he fought, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
46 Auch tilgte er den Rest der Unzucht Geweihten, die zu der Zeit seines Vaters Asa übrig geblieben waren, aus dem Lande.
The remnant of the sodomites, that remained in the days of his father Asa, he put away out of the land.
47 Es gab aber damals keinen König in Edom; ein Statthalter war König.
There was no king in Edom. A deputy ruled.
48 Josaphat hatte Tarsisschiffe bauen lassen, die nach Ophir fahren sollten, um Gold zu holen; aber man fuhr nicht, denn die Schiffe scheiterten zu Ezeon-Geber.
Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they didn’t go, for the ships wrecked at Ezion Geber.
49 Damals sprach Ahasja, der Sohn Ahabs, zu Josaphat: Laß meine Leute mit deinen Leuten auf den Schiffen fahren! Josaphat aber wollte nicht.
Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my servants go with your servants in the ships.” But Jehoshaphat would not.
50 Und Josaphat legte sich zu seinen Vätern und ward bei seinen Vätern in der Stadt Davids, seines Ahnherrn, begraben. Und sein Sohn Jehoram ward König an seiner Statt.
Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in his father David’s city. Jehoram his son reigned in his place.
51 Ahasja, der Sohn Ahabs, ward König über Israel zu Samaria im siebzehnten Jahre Josaphats, des Königs von Juda, und regierte zwei Jahre über Israel.
Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel.
52 Und er that, was Jahwe mißfiel, und wandelte auf dem Wege seines Vaters und auf dem Wege seiner Mutter und auf dem Wege Jerobeams, des Sohnes Nebats, der Israel zur Sünde verführt hatte.
He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, in which he made Israel to sin.
53 Und er diente dem Baal und betete ihn an und reizte Jahwe, den Gott Israels, zum Zorne, ganz wie sein Vater gethan hatte.
He served Baal and worshiped him, and provoked Yahweh, the God of Israel, to anger in all the ways that his father had done so.
