Hohelied 3

1 "Ich sehnte mich auf meinem Lager eines Nachts nach dem, den meine Seele liebt. Ich sehnte mich nach ihm und fand ihn nicht.

By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

2 So will ich aufstehen, die Stadt durchstreifen, auf Märkten und auf Straßen suchen ihn, den meine Seele liebt. Ich suchte ihn und fand ihn nicht.

I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

3 Da trafen mich die Wächter, die in der Stadt umgehen: 'Habt ihr ihn wohl gesehen, den meine Seele liebt?'

The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?

4 An ihnen kaum vorüber, fand ich den, den meine Seele liebt. Ich halte ihn nun fest und will von ihm nicht lassen, bis daß ich ihn in meiner Mutter Haus gebracht, hin zu der Kammer jener Frau, die mich geboren.

It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.

5 'Ihr Töchter von Jerusalem!' so rufe ich. 'Ach, ich beschwöre euch bei den Gazellen oder bei den Hindinnen der Fluren: Weckt nicht auf! Stört nicht die Liebe, bis es selber ihr gefällt!'

I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

6 Was ist's, was dort heraufkommt aus der Wüste, Rauchessäulen gleich, im Duft von Myrrhen und von Weihrauch, von Spezereien aller Art?"

Who is this that cometh out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?

7 "Fürwahr, das ist die Sänfte Salomos, um sie herum der Helden sechzig, genommen aus den Helden Israels.

Behold his bed, which is Solomon’s; sixty valiant men are about it, of the valiant of Israel.

8 Sie alle kriegstüchtig, im Kampf erprobt, jedweder mit dem Schwert an seiner Hüfte, um der Gefahr zur Nachtzeit willen."

They all hold swords, being expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his thigh because of fear in the night.

9 "Der König Salomo, der ließ sich einen Tragstuhl fertigen aus Holz vom Libanon.

King Solomon made himself a chariot of the wood of Lebanon.

10 Aus Silber ließ er seine Säulen machen, aus Gold die Lehne, seinen Sitz aus Purpurzeug. Sein Innres ist bedeckt mit Bildern aus dem Liebesleben der Töchter von Jerusalem.

He made its posts of silver, the bottom of it of gold, the covering of it of purple, the midst of it being paved with love, for the daughters of Jerusalem.

11 Wohlan, ihr Sionstöchter! So weidet euch am Anblicke des Königs Salomo, am Kranz, den seine Mutter ihm gewunden an seinem Hochzeitstag, am Tage seiner Herzensfreude!"

Go forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown with which his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.
