Psalm 19

1 Auf den Siegesspender, ein Lied, von David. Die Himmel rühmen Gottes Ehre: das Sterngewölbe kündet seiner Hände Werk.

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

2 Die Botschaft raunt ein Tag dem andern zu, und eine Nacht tut sie der andern kund.

Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.

3 Nicht Reden sind's, nicht Worte, die nicht vernehmlich klängen.

[There is] no speech nor language, [where] their voice is not heard.

4 Ihr Schall durchtönt die ganze Erde, und ihre Laute dringen bis zum Rand der Welt. Ein Zelt ist auf ein Jahr dort für den Sonnenball,

Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,

5 der, einem Bräutigam gleich, aus seiner Kammer tritt und freudig, wie ein Krieger, seine Bahn durchläuft,

Which [is] as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, [and] rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.

6 der von dem Rand des Himmels seinen Ausgang hat, an seinen Grenzen seinen Umschwung nimmt, vor dessen Strahlen nichts verborgen bleibt.

His going forth [is] from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

7 Des Herrn Gesetz ist makellos und eine Seelenspeise. Des Herrn Verordnung ist bewährt und macht die Toren weise.

The law of the LORD [is] perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD [is] sure, making wise the simple.

8 Des Herrn Befehle sind gerecht, Gemüt und Herz erfreuend. Des Herrn Gebot ist tadellos und spendet Licht den Augen.

The statutes of the LORD [are] right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD [is] pure, enlightening the eyes.

9 Die Furcht des Herrn ist unfehlbar, auf ewig unvergänglich. Die Satzungen des Herrn sind wahr, gerecht befunden allzumal,

The fear of the LORD [is] clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD [are] true [and] righteous altogether.

10 kostbarer noch als Gold, als feinstes Gold in Menge; und süßer noch als Honigseim und Waben.

More to be desired [are they] than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

11 Vorsichtig geht Dein Knecht mit ihnen um, verwendet vielen Fleiß auf ihr Befolgen.

Moreover by them is thy servant warned: [and] in keeping of them [there is] great reward.

12 Doch wer ist jeden Irrtums sich bewußt? Von unbewußten Schwächen sprich mich los!

Who can understand [his] errors? cleanse thou me from secret [faults].

13 Beschütze Deinen Knecht auch vor mutwilligen Verfehlungen! Sie mögen mich nicht überwältigen! Dann bin ich ohne Tadelund bleibe völlig frei von Missetat.

Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous [sins; ] let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

14 Gefallen laß Dir meines Mundes Worte und meines Herzens Sinnen, mein Hort und mein Erlöser, Du mein Herr!

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
