< Psalm 114 >

1 Als Israel Ägypten und Jakobs Haus das fremde Volk verließ,
When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;
2 da ward Juda sein Heiligtum und Israel sein Reich.
Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.
3 Dies sah das Meer und floh; der Jordan ging zurück.
The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.
4 Die Berge hüpften gleich den Widdern, die Hügel wie die Lämmer. -
The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.
5 Was ist dir, Meer? Du fliehst. Was, Jordan, dir? Du gehst zurück.
What ailed you, O you sea, that you fled? you Jordan, that you were driven back?
6 Euch Bergen, daß ihr gleich den Widdern, euch Hügeln, daß ihr gleich den Lämmern hüpfet; -
All of you mountains, that all of you skipped like rams; and all of you little hills, like lambs?
7 Erbebe, Erde, vor dem Herrn, vor Jakobs Gott,
Tremble, you earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;
8 der Fels in See und Kies in Quellgrund wandelt!
Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
