Sprueche 19
1 Ein Armer, der in Einfalt wandelt, ist viel besser als einer mit gezierter Rede, dazu dumm.
Better is a poor [man] that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
2 Ausruhen ohne Grund ist auch nicht gut; doch wer sich überstürzt, tritt sicher fehl.
Also that a person be without knowledge is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet maketh false steps.
3 Zerstört des Menschen eigene Torheit seinen Weg, so zürnt sein Herz dem Herrn.
The folly of man distorteth his way, and his heart is irritated against Jehovah.
4 Der Reichtum schafft stets neue Freunde; wer aber arm, von dem trennt sich sein Freund.
Wealth addeth many friends; but the poor is separated from his friend.
5 Ein falscher Zeuge bleibt nicht ungestraft, und nicht entkommt, wer Lügen spricht.
A false witness shall not be held innocent, and he that uttereth lies shall not escape.
6 Es buhlen viele um des Mannes Gunst, der geben kann; doch keinen Freund besitzt, wer selbst bedürftig.
Many court the favour of a noble; and every one is friend to a man that giveth.
7 Den Armen mag von seinen Brüdern keiner; selbst seine Freunde bleiben fern von ihm. Wer Worten nachjagt, dem gereichen sie zu nichts.
All the brethren of a poor [man] hate him; how much more do his friends go far from him: he pursueth [them] with words, — they are not [to be found].
8 Wer sich Verstand erwirbt, der liebt sein Leben, und wer Vernunft bewahrt, der findet Glück.
He that getteth sense loveth his own soul; he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
9 Ein falscher Zeuge bleibt nicht ungestraft; wer Lügen vorbringt, geht zugrunde.
A false witness shall not be held innocent, and he that uttereth lies shall perish.
10 Wohlleben frommt dem Toren nicht, noch weniger dem Sklaven der Genuß.
Good living beseemeth not a fool; how much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
11 Langmut zeuget vom Verstande eines Menschen; das Übersehen der Verfehlung ist sein Ruhm.
The discretion of a man maketh him slow to anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
12 Des Königs üble Laune ist wie Knurren eines jungen Löwen; doch seine Huld, was Tau für Pflanzen.
The king's displeasure is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
13 Ein Unglück für den Vater ist ein dummer Sohn; ein zänkisch Weib ist wie der Regen, der eindringt in ein Haus und draus vertreibt.
A foolish son is the calamity of his father; and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
14 Von seinen Vätern erbt man Haus und Gut; vom Herrn jedoch kommt ein verständig Weib.
House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers; but a prudent wife is from Jehovah.
15 In tiefen Schlaf versenkt die Faulheit; ein Lässiger wird Hunger leiden.
Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep, and the idle soul shall suffer hunger.
16 Wer Achtung vor Befehlen hat, bewahrt sein Leben; wer seine Pflicht vernachlässigt, wird mit dem Tod bestraft.
He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his soul; he that is careless of his ways shall die.
17 Wer sich erbarmt des Armen, leiht dem Herrn, und seine Guttat lohnt er ihm.
He that is gracious to the poor lendeth unto Jehovah; and what he hath bestowed will he repay unto him.
18 Straf deinen Sohn! Dann gibt's noch Hoffnung. Bekümmre dich nicht um sein Weinen!
Chasten thy son, seeing there is hope; but set not thy soul upon killing him.
19 "Wer gar zu weit im Zorne geht, der muß es büßen." Im Gegenteil! Errette ihn und rett ihn immer wieder!
A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment; for if thou deliver [him], yet thou must do it again.
20 Hör auf den Rat! Nimm an die Mahnung, auf daß du in der Zukunft weise seist!
Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
21 Der Pläne in des Mannes Herzen mögen viele sein; der Plan des Herrn allein geht in Erfüllung.
Many are the thoughts in a man's heart, but the counsel of Jehovah, that doth stand.
22 Beim Menschen ist begehrenswert Wohltätigkeit; doch besser ist ein Mensch, der nichts besitzt, als der, der lügenhaft verspricht.
The charm of a man is his kindness; and a poor [man] is better than a liar.
23 Zum Leben dient die Furcht des Herrn; der Hochmut murrt, daß nicht das Böse wird bestraft.
The fear of Jehovah [tendeth] to life, and he [that hath it] shall rest satisfied without being visited with evil.
24 Wenn seine Hand der Faule in die Schüssel steckt, so mag er sie zum Mund nicht bringen.
A sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, and will not even bring it to his mouth again.
25 Wenn du den Spötter schlägst, so kann der Dumme dadurch weise werden. Vermahnst du einen Klugen, kann er dadurch weise werden.
Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware; reprove the intelligent, and he will understand knowledge.
26 Wer seinen Vater elend macht und seiner Mutter Herz durchbohrt, der ist ein Sohn, der schimpflich und erbärmlich handelt!
He that ruineth [his] father and chaseth away [his] mother is a son that causeth shame and bringeth reproach.
27 Mein Sohn, laß ab, auf Mahnungen zu hören, die nur geschehn, um gute Lehren in den Wind zu schlagen!
Cease, my son, to hear the instruction which causeth to stray from the words of knowledge.
28 Des nichtswürdigen Zeugen spottet die Gerechtigkeit; der Trug verwickelt frevelhaften Mund in Widerspruch.
A witness of Belial scorneth judgment, and the mouth of the wicked swalloweth down iniquity.
29 Bereit sind Schläge für die Spötter und Hiebe für des Toren Rücken.
Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of the foolish.
