Nehemia 9
1 Am vierundzwanzigsten in diesem Monat versammelten sich die Söhne Israels, fastend und in Bußgewändern, mit Erde auf dem Haupte.
Now in the twenty and fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackclothes, and earth upon them.
2 Dann ward der Stamm Israels von allen Fremden abgesondert. Sie traten hin und bekannten ihre Sünden und die Schuld ihrer Väter.
And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.
3 Dann erhoben sie sich und lasen aus dem Buche der Lehre des Herrn, ihres Gottes, den vierten Teil des Tages vor. Und ein weiteres Viertel bekannten sie ihre Sünden und warfen sich nieder vor dem Herrn, ihrem Gott.
And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the LORD their God [one] fourth part of the day; and [another] fourth part they confessed, and worshipped the LORD their God.
4 Dann traten Jesua und Banai und Kadmiel, Sebanja, Bunni und Serebja, Bani, Kenani auf die Levitenbühne und flehten laut zum Herrn, ihrem Gott.
Then stood up upon the stairs, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, [and] Chenani, and cried with a loud voice unto the LORD their God.
5 Dann sprachen die Leviten Jesua und Kadmiel und Bani, Chasabneja, Serebja, Hodia, Sebanja und Petachja: "Auf! Lobpreist den Herrn, euren Gott, von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit! Man preise Deinen wundervollen Namen, erhaben über allen Preis und Ruhm!"
Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, [and] Pethahiah, said, Stand up [and] bless the LORD your God for ever and ever: and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.
6 Darauf sprach Ezra: "Du, Herr, bist einzig. Du bist es, der den Himmel schuf, der Himmel Himmel, all sein Heer, die Erde, alles, was darauf, die Meere, alles, was darin. Du bist's, der alles lebend hält, vor dem des Himmels Heer sich beugt.
Thou, [even] thou, [art] LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all [things] that [are] therein, the seas, and all that [is] therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.
7 Du, Herr, Du bist der Gott, der Abram hat erkoren, und ihn aus der Chaldäer Ur geführt und ihm den Namen Abraham gegeben.
Thou [art] the LORD the God, who didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham;
8 Du hast sein Herz getreu vor Dir erfunden und diesen Bund mit ihm geschlossen, das Land der Kanaaniter und Chittiter, der Ammoniter, Perizziter und Jebusiter, Girgasiter seinen Nachkommen zu geben. Du hieltest dies Dein Wort; Du bist gerecht.
And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give [it, I say], to his seed, and hast performed thy words; for thou [art] righteous:
9 Du sahst das Elend unserer Väter in Ägypten, und an dem Schilfmeer hast Du ihren Hilfeschrei vernommen.
And didst see the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heardest their cry by the Red sea;
10 Da tatest Zeichen Du und Wunder an Pharao und allen seinen Dienern und an dem ganzen Volke seines Landes. Du hast gewußt, daß diese gegen jene freventlich gehandelt. Du schufst Dir damit einen Namen bis auf diesen Tag.
And shewedst signs and wonders upon Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his land: for thou knewest that they dealt proudly against them. So didst thou get thee a name, as [it is] this day.
11 Gespalten hast Du auch das Meer vor ihnen, daß sie durchs Meer im Trockenen zogen. Doch ihre Feinde hast Du in die Wasserstrudel hingeschleudert wie einen Stein in wilde Wasser.
And thou didst divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors thou threwest into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.
12 Durch eine Wolkensäule hast Du sie bei Tag geleitet, durch eine Feuersäule in der Nacht, den Weg, auf dem sie zogen, ihnen zu beleuchten.
Moreover thou leddest them in the day by a cloudy pillar; and in the night by a pillar of fire, to give them light in the way wherein they should go.
13 Dann bist Du auf den Sinaiberg herabgestiegen und hast mit ihnen von dem Himmel her gesprochen; Du gabest ihnen richtige Gesetze, wahre Lehren und gute Satzungen und Vorschriften.
Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai, and spakest with them from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments:
14 Auch Deinen heiligen Sabbat hast Du ihnen angekündet, hast ihnen die Gebote und Satzungen und Lehren durch Moses, Deinen Diener, aufgetragen.
And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant:
15 Gespendet hast Du ihnen Brot vom Himmel für den Hunger und Wasser ihnen für den Durst aus Felsen sprudeln lassen. Dann hießest Du sie jenes Land besetzen, das feierlich Du ihnen zugesprochen.
And gavest them bread from heaven for their hunger, and broughtest forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and promisedst them that they should go in to possess the land which thou hadst sworn to give them.
16 Gefrevelt aber haben unsere Väter; halsstarrig waren sie, sie haben nicht auf Dein Gebot gehört.
But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks, and hearkened not to thy commandments,
17 Sie haben sich geweigert, zu gehorchen, und hatten Deiner Wunder nimmermehr gedacht, die Du für sie gewirkt. Sie steiften also ihren Nacken. Sie setzten es sich in den Kopf, zu ihrem Frondienst heimzukehren nach Ägypten. Doch der Vergebung Gott bist Du, gar gnädig und barmherzig, langmütig, reich an Huld. Du hast sie nicht verlassen.
And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but thou [art] a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not.
18 Dann hatten sie sich ein gegossen Kalb verfertigt und gesagt: 'Dies ist dein Gott, der aus Ägypten dich geführt.' Sie lästerten erschrecklich.
Yea, when they had made them a molten calf, and said, This [is] thy God that brought thee up out of Egypt, and had wrought great provocations;
19 Du aber hast sie in der Wüste nicht verlassen in Deinem Reichtum an Erbarmen. Nicht wich bei Tag die Wolkensäule je von ihnen, sie auf dem Weg zu führen, und nicht die Feuersäule nachts, zu leuchten auf dem Wege, den sie zogen.
Yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to shew them light, and the way wherein they should go.
20 Nein! Deinen guten Wind hast Du bestellt, sie zu belehren. Und ihrem Munde hast Du Manna nicht versagt, hast ihnen Wasser für den Durst gespendet.
Thou gavest also thy good spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst.
21 Und vierzig Jahre hast Du in der Wüste sie versorgt; nie haben Mangel sie gelitten; zerfallen sind nicht ihre Kleider und ihre Füße nicht geschwollen.
Yea, forty years didst thou sustain them in the wilderness, [so that] they lacked nothing; their clothes waxed not old, and their feet swelled not.
22 Dann gabst Du ihnen Königreiche, Völker, und Du verteiltest sie als Lehen. Und sie eroberten das Land des Sichon und das des Königs von Hesbon und das des Basankönigs Og.
Moreover thou gavest them kingdoms and nations, and didst divide them into corners: so they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.
23 Gemehrt hast Du des Himmels Sternen ähnlich ihre Kinder; Du brachtest sie in dieses Land, dahin zu geh'n Du ihren Vätern anbefohlen, es zu besetzen.
Their children also multipliedst thou as the stars of heaven, and broughtest them into the land, concerning which thou hadst promised to their fathers, that they should go in to possess [it].
24 Und ihre Söhne kamen und eroberten das Land. Du warfst des Landes Insassen vor ihnen nieder, die Kanaaniter. Du gabst sie hin in ihre Hand, die Könige mitsamt der Länder Völkern, mit ihnen nach Belieben zu verfahren.
So the children went in and possessed the land, and thou subduedst before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gavest them into their hands, with their kings, and the people of the land, that they might do with them as they would.
25 Sie nahmen feste Städte ein und Fruchtgefilde, gewannen Häuser voll des Guten all und ausgehauene Zisternen, Weinberge und Ölbaumgärten, Obstbäume in Menge. Sie aßen, und sie wurden satt und fett und schwelgten in der reichen Fülle Deiner Güter.
And they took strong cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods, wells digged, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance: so they did eat, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness.
26 Doch widerspenstig wurden sie. Sie fielen von Dir ab, verwarfen Deine Lehre, und Deine Seher haben sie erschlagen, die sie verwarnt, um sie zu Dir zurückzuführen. Und sie verübten fürchterliche Lästerungen.
Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.
27 Da gabst Du sie in ihrer Dränger Hand, und sie bedrückten sie. Da schrieen sie zu Dir in ihrer Not, und Du erhörtest sie vom Himmel her. Du gabst nach Deiner großen Milde ihnen Retter, die sie aus ihrer Dränger Hand befreiten.
Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest [them] from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.
28 Doch als sie Ruhe hatten, verübten sie, was Dir mißfiel; da überließest Du sie ihrer Feinde Hand, und sie beherrschten sie. Nun schrien sie wiederum zu Dir, und Du erhörtest sie vom Himmel her, befreitest sie nach Deiner großen Huld.
But after they had rest, they did evil again before thee: therefore leftest thou them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them: yet when they returned, and cried unto thee, thou heardest [them] from heaven; and many times didst thou deliver them according to thy mercies;
29 Du warntest sie, um sie zu Deiner Lehre wieder hinzuführen. Auf Deine Vorschrift hatten sie in ihrem Frevelsinne nicht gehört. Sie hatten gegen Deine Rechte sich verfehlt, durch die ein Mensch am Leben bleibt, erfüllt er sie. Sie aber zeigten sich gar störrisch. Hartnäckig waren sie geworden, ungehorsam.
And testifiedst against them, that thou mightest bring them again unto thy law: yet they dealt proudly, and hearkened not unto thy commandments, but sinned against thy judgments, (which if a man do, he shall live in them; ) and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.
30 Du aber wartetest mit ihnen viele Jahre, verwarntest sie durch Deinen Geist, durch Deine Seher. Sie aber hatten nicht darauf gehört; da gabst Du sie in die Gewalt der Ländervölker.
Yet many years didst thou forbear them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit in thy prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore gavest thou them into the hand of the people of the lands.
31 Jedoch in Deiner großen Huld hast Du sie nicht vertilgt und nicht im Stich gelassen, weil Du ein Gott bist, gnädig und barmherzig.
Nevertheless for thy great mercies’ sake thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake them; for thou [art] a gracious and merciful God.
32 Nun, unser Gott, Du großer und gewaltiger, furchtbarer Gott, der Bund und Huld bewahrt, nicht gelte Dir als wenig all das Ungemach, das uns getroffen, unsere Könige und Oberen und Priester und Propheten und Dein ganzes Volk seit der Assyrerkönige Zeiten bis auf diesen Tag!
Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day.
33 Du bist gerecht bei allem, was uns traf. Du hast im Recht gehandelt. Doch unser Tun entsprang gar böser Absicht.
Howbeit thou [art] just in all that is brought upon us; for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly:
34 Und unsre Könige, Oberen und Priester, unsre Väter, sie haben Deine Lehre nicht befolgt, und nicht geachtet Deiner Weisung und Ermahnung, durch die Du sie vermahnt.
Neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept thy law, nor hearkened unto thy commandments and thy testimonies, wherewith thou didst testify against them.
35 Trotz ihres eignen Königtums und trotz der reichen Güterfülle, die Du ihnen hast geschenkt, und trotz dem weiten, fetten Boden, den Du ihnen hast verliehen, haben sie doch Dir nicht gedient und nicht von ihrem schlimmen Treiben abgelassen.
For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works.
36 Deshalb sind heute wir geknebelt, und in dem Land, das unsern Vätern Du geschenkt, damit sie seine Frucht, sein Gut genießen, darin sind wir jetzt Knechte.
Behold, we [are] servants this day, and [for] the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we [are] servants in it:
37 Jetzt mehrt sich sein Ertrag den Königen, die Du ob unseren Sünden über uns gesetzt. Sie schalten nach Belieben über uns und unser Vieh, und wir sind selbst in großer Not."
And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we [are] in great distress.
38 Trotz alledem sind wir bereit, einen festen Bund zu schließen und ihn zu unterzeichnen. Auf der Urkunde sollen unsere Oberen, Leviten und Priester stehen!
And because of all this we make a sure [covenant], and write [it; ] and our princes, Levites, [and] priests, seal [unto it].
