Matthaeus 3
1 In jenen Tagen trat Johannes der Täufer auf. Er predigte in der Steppe von Judäa
And in those dayes, Iohn the Baptist came and preached in the wildernes of Iudea,
2 und sprach: "Bekehret euch: das Himmelreich ist nahe!"
And said, Repent: for the kingdome of heauen is at hand.
3 Ihn meint der Prophet Isaias da, wo er sagt: "Eine Stimme ruft in der Steppe: Richtet her den Weg des Herrn, macht eben seine Pfade".
For this is he of whome it is spoken by the Prophet Esaias, saying, The voyce of him that crieth in the wildernes, Prepare ye the way of the Lord: make his pathes straight.
4 Dieser Johannes trug ein Kamelhaarkleid und um die Lenden einen Ledergürtel; seine Nahrung waren Heuschrecken und wilder Honig.
And this Iohn had his garment of camels heare, and a girdle of a skinne about his loynes: his meate was also locusts and wilde hony.
5 Jerusalem zog zu ihm hinaus und ganz Judäa, sowie die ganze Jordansau.
Then went out to him Ierusalem and all Iudea, and all the region rounde about Iordan.
6 Man ließ sich von ihm im Jordanfluß taufen und bekannte dabei seine Sünden.
And they were baptized of him in Iordan, confessing their sinnes.
7 Als er nun viele von den Pharisäern und den Sadduzäern sah, wie sie zu seinem Taufplatz kamen, sprach er zu ihnen: "Ihr Schlangenbrut! Wer hat euch eingeredet, ihr würdet dem drohenden Strafgericht entrinnen?
Now when he sawe many of the Pharises, and of the Sadduces come to his baptisme, he said vnto them, O generations of vipers, who hath forewarned you to flee from the anger to come?
8 Bringt also Frucht würdig der Bekehrung.
Bring foorth therefore fruite worthy amendment of life.
9 Glaubt ja nicht, daß ihr denken dürft: Wir haben Abraham zum Vater. Ich sage euch: Gott kann aus diesen Steinen da Kinder für Abraham erstehen lassen.
And thinke not to say with your selues, We haue Abraham to our father: for I say vnto you, that God is able euen of these stones to raise vp children vnto Abraham.
10 Schon liegt die Axt an der Wurzel der Bäume. Jeder Baum, der keine gute Frucht trägt, wird umgehauen und ins Feuer geworfen.
And now also is the axe put to the roote of the trees: therfore euery tree which bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewen downe, and cast into ye fire.
11 Ich taufe euch mit Wasser zur Bekehrung; er aber, der nach mir kommt, ist mächtiger als ich; ich bin nicht wert, ihm auch nur die Schuhe zu tragen. Er wird euch mit dem Heiligen Geist und mit Feuer taufen.
In deede I baptize you with water to amendment of life, but he that commeth after me, is mightier then I, whose shoes I am not worthie to beare: hee will baptize you with the holy Ghost, and with fire.
12 Schon hat er seine Schaufel in der Hand; und er wird seine Tenne reinigen: Den Weizen wird er in seinen Speicher bringen, die Spreu jedoch verbrennen in einem unauslöschlichen Feuer."
Which hath his fanne in his hand, and wil make cleane his floore, and gather his wheate into his garner, but will burne vp the chaffe with vnquenchable fire.
13 Damals kam Jesus von Galiläa her an den Jordan, um von ihm getauft zu werden.
Then came Iesus from Galile to Iordan vnto Iohn, to be baptized of him.
14 Johannes aber wollte es ihm wehren; er sprach: "Ich sollte doch von dir getauft werden, und du kommst zu mir?"
But Iohn earnestly put him backe, saying, I haue neede to be baptized of thee, and commest thou to me?
15 Allein Jesus sprach zu ihm: "Gib dich für jetzt zufrieden! Denn so gehört es sich für uns, all das zu erfüllen, was Rechtens ist." Da ließ er ihm den Willen.
Then Iesus answering, saide to him, Let be nowe: for thus it becommeth vs to fulfill all righteousnes. So he suffered him.
16 Nach der Taufe stieg Jesus sogleich aus dem Wasser, und siehe, es öffneten sich ihm die Himmel: Er sah den Geist Gottes herniederschweben so wie eine Taube und auf ihn zukommen.
And Iesus when hee was baptized, came straight out of the water. And lo, the heaues were opened vnto him, and Iohn saw the Spirit of God descending like a doue, and lighting vpon him.
17 Und siehe, eine Stimme rief vom Himmel her: "Dies ist mein geliebter Sohn; an ihm habe ich mein Wohlgefallen."
And loe, a voyce came from heauen, saying, This is my beloued Sonne, in whome I am well pleased.
