Matthaeus 14
1 In jener Zeit vernahm Herodes, der Vierfürst, von Jesus.
In that season, heard Herod the tetrarch, the fame of Jesus:
2 Er sprach zu seinen Höflingen: "Das ist Johannes der Täufer. Er ist von den Toten auferstanden, deshalb wirken in ihm Gottes Kräfte."
and he said unto his servants—This, is John the Immerser, —he hath arisen from the dead, for this cause, are the powers working mightily within him.
3 Herodes hatte nämlich Johannes gefangennehmen, fesseln und ins Gefängnis werfen lassen der Herodias, dem Weibe Philippus', seines Bruders, zu Gefallen.
For, Herod, seizing John, had bound him, and, in prison, put him away, —because of Herodias, the wife of Philip his brother;
4 Denn Johannes hatte ihm vorgehalten: "Es ist dir nicht erlaubt, sie zu besitzen."
for John had been saying to him, It is not allowed thee, to have her.
5 Er hätte ihn gern getötet, jedoch er fürchtete das Volk; denn dieses sah ihn als einen Propheten an.
And desiring, to kill, him, he feared the multitude, because, as a prophet, they held him.
6 Am Geburtsfest des Herodes tanzte die Tochter der Herodias im Kreise der Gäste. Dies gefiel Herodes so,
But, a birthday feast of Herod taking place, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod;
7 daß er ihr unter einem Eid versprach, ihr zu geben, was immer sie verlangen würde.
wherefore, with an oath, he promised to give her, whatsoever she should ask for herself;
8 Von ihrer Mutter angestiftet, sprach sie: "Gib mir hier auf einer Schüssel den Kopf Johannes des Täufers!"
and, she, being led on by her mother, —Give me (saith she) here, upon a charger, the head of John the Immerser.
9 Da ward der König tief betrübt; jedoch des Eides und der Gäste wegen befahl er, ihn zu geben.
And the king, though grieved, yet, because of the oaths and the guests, ordered it to be given;
10 Also ließ er den Johannes im Gefängnis enthaupten.
and sent and beheaded John in the prison.
11 Man brachte seinen Kopf auf einer Schüssel und gab ihn dem Mädchen, und diese brachte ihn ihrer Mutter.
And his head was brought upon a charger, and given unto the maiden, and she brought it to her mother.
12 Seine Jünger holten dann den Leichnam und begruben ihn. Hierauf erzählten sie es Jesus.
And his disciples, going near, bare away the corpse, and buried him, and came and brought tidings unto Jesus.
13 Auf diese Nachricht hin zog sich Jesus von da zurück; auf einem Boote ging er allein an einen abgelegenen Ort. Die Scharen merkten dies und folgten ihm zu Fuß von den Städten her.
And Jesus, hearing it, retired from thence in a boat, into a desert place, apart, —and the multitudes, hearing of it, followed him on foot from the cities.
14 Er stieg aus und sah die große Menge, empfand ein herzliches Erbarmen über sie und heilte ihre Kranken.
And, coming forth, he saw a great multitude, —and was moved with compassion over them, and cured their sick.
15 Als es schon spät geworden war, traten seine Jünger zu ihm hin und sprachen: "Der Ort ist einsam und die Zeit schon vorgerückt. Entlaß daher die Scharen. Sie mögen in die Dörfer gehen und sich Nahrung kaufen."
And, evening, arriving, the disciples came unto him, saying—The place is, a desert, and, the hour, hath already passed, —dismiss the multitudes, that they may go away into the villages, and buy themselves food.
16 Doch Jesus sprach zu ihnen: "Sie brauchen gar nicht wegzugehen; gebt ihr ihnen zu essen."
But, Jesus, said unto them, No need, have they to go away, —give, ye, them to eat.
17 Da sagten sie zu ihm: "Wir haben nur fünf Brote und zwei Fische hier."
But, they, say unto him—We have nothing here, save five loaves and two fishes.
18 "So bringet sie mir her", sprach er.
But, he, said—Bring, them, to me, here.
19 Dann hieß er die Scharen sich auf dem Grase zu lagern, nahm die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische, schaute auf zum Himmel und segnete. Er brach sodann die Brote und gab sie seinen Jüngern; die Jünger gaben sie den Scharen.
And, giving orders that the multitudes should recline upon the grass, —taking the five loaves and the two fishes, —looking up into the heaven, he blessed; and, breaking, gave, the disciples, the loaves, and the disciples unto the multitude.
20 Und alle aßen und wurden satt; ja, noch zwölf Körbe trugen sie hinweg, voll mit Stücken, die übriggeblieben waren.
And they did all eat, and were filled, —and they took up the remainder of the broken pieces, twelve baskets, full.
21 Es waren derer, die gegessen hatten, an fünftausend Männer; die Frauen und Kinder nicht gerechnet.
And, they who did eat, were about five thousand, men, besides women and children.
22 Und sogleich drängte er die Jünger, in das Boot zu steigen und an das andere Ufer ihm vorauszufahren; er wollte die Scharen inzwischen entlassen.
And [straightway] constrained he the disciples to enter into a boat, and be going before him unto the other side, while he dismissed the multitudes.
23 Und er entließ die Scharen und stieg allein auf einen Berg, um dort zu beten.
And, dismissing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain, apart, to pray, —and when, evening, came, alone, was he, there.
24 Es war schon spät, und er war dort ganz allein. Das Boot war schon viele Stadien vom Land entfernt mitten auf dem Meere von Wellen hart bedrängt; sie hatten nämlich Gegenwind.
Now, the boat, still many furlongs from the land, was holding off, being distressed by the waves, —for, the wind, was, contrary.
25 Da, um die vierte Nachtwache, kam er zu ihnen, auf dem Meere daherwandelnd.
And, in the fourth watch of the night, he came unto them, walking upon the sea.
26 Die Jünger sahen ihn, wie er auf dem Meere wandelte; sie erschraken und riefen: "Ein Gespenst!" Sie schrien laut vor Angst.
And, the disciples, seeing him, upon the lake walking, were troubled, —saying—It is, a ghost; and, by reason of their fear, they cried out.
27 Doch alsbald redete sie Jesus an und sprach: "Nur Mut! Ich bin es. Habt keine Angst."
And, straightway, Jesus spake unto them, saying—Take courage! it is, I,—be not afraid.
28 Und Petrus sprach zu ihm: "Herr, wenn du willst, so heiße mich auf dem Wasser zu dir kommen."
And, making answer, Peter said unto him, —Lord! if it is, thou, bid me come unto thee, upon the waters.
29 Er sprach: "Komm!" Da stieg Petrus aus dem Boot und schritt über das Wasser hin und ging auf Jesus zu.
And, he, said—Come! And, descending from the boat, Peter walked upon the waters, and came unto Jesus.
30 Als er jedoch den starken Wind verspürte, bekam er Angst; er fing an zu sinken und schrie: "Herr, rette mich!"
But, seeing the wind, he was affrighted, and, beginning to sink, cried out, saying—Lord! save me!
31 Sogleich streckte Jesus seine Hand aus, faßte ihn und sprach: "Kleingläubiger, warum hast du gezweifelt?"
And, straightway, Jesus, stretching forth his hand, laid hold upon him and saith unto him—O little-of-faith! why didst thou doubt?
32 Darauf stiegen sie ins Boot, und sogleich legte sich der Wind.
And, when they came up into the boat, the wind abated.
33 Die im Boote waren, fielen vor ihm nieder mit den Worten: "Wahrhaftig, du bist der Sohn Gottes."
And, they in the boat, bowed down to him, saying—Truly, God’s Son, thou art!
34 Sie fuhren vollends über und kamen bei Genesareth ans Land.
And, going across, they came up the land, into Gennesaret.
35 Sobald die Leute ihn dort erkannten, schickten sie in jener Gegend überall herum, und man brachte alle Kranken zu ihm.
And, recognizing him, the men of that place, sent out into all that region, and they brought unto him all who were sick;
36 Und diese baten ihn, sie möchten nur den Saum seines Kleides berühren. Und alle, die ihn berührten, wurden ganz gesund.
and were beseeching [him], that they might, only, touch the border of his mantle, and, as many as touched, were made quite well.
