Klagelieder 4
1 Wie unbeachtet ist das Gold und feines Gold mißachtet! Wie werden Steine aus dem Heiligtum an alle Straßenecken hingeworfen!
How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.
2 Wie werden, ach, die teuren Sionskinder, bisher mit Feingold aufgewogen, jetzt irdnen Töpfen gleich geachtet, dem Werk von Töpferhänden!
The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!
3 Schakale selbst entblößen ihre Brust und säugen ihre Jungen. Grausam ward meines Volkes Tochter, tut wie die Straußenhenne in der Wüste.
Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.
4 Des Säuglings Zunge klebt vor Durst an seinem Gaumen. Die Kinder flehn um Brot; doch niemand bricht es ihnen.
The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.
5 Die einstens Leckerbissen aßen, verschmachten auf den Gassen, die man auf Purpur trug, umklammern Düngerhaufen.
They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.
6 So ist die Schuld der Tochter meines Volkes größer als Sodoms Missetat, das wie im Nu verwüstet ward, an das sich keine Hände legten.
For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.
7 Und reiner waren ihre Nasiräer als der Schnee, und weißer als die Milch; ihr Mund war rötlicher als die Korallen und ihr Geäder wie Saphir.
Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:
8 Da ward ihr Aussehn schwärzer als der Ruß; unkenntlich sind sie auf den Straßen; an ihren Knochen klebt die Haut; wie Holz so trocken.
Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.
9 Weit besser waren die vom Schwert getroffenen daran, als die vom Hungertod gemarterten. Denn diese schwanden hin, im Stich gelassen von des Feldes Frucht.
They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the field.
10 Weichherzige Frauen kochten mit eigenen Händen ihre Kinder; sie wurden ihre Speise beim Untergang der Tochter meines Volkes.
The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
11 Der Herr hat seinen Grimm erschöpft und ausgegossen seine Zornesglut. In Sion hat ein Feuer er entzündet, das seine Grundfesten verzehrte.
Yhwh hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.
12 Die Könige auf Erden hätten's nicht geglaubt, kein Weltbewohner, daß je Belagerer und Feinde die Tore von Jerusalem beträten.
The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.
13 Doch wegen der Vergehen ihrer Seher, der Missetaten ihrer Priester, die darin gerechtes Blut vergossen,
For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,
14 ziehn diese auf den Gassen blind umher, mit Blut besudelt. Sie können sich in ihren Kleidern nicht mehr regen.
They have wandered as blind men in the streets, they have polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments.
15 "Weicht aus, ein Unreiner!" so rufen sie von sich. "Weicht aus! Weicht aus! Kommt nicht zu nahe!" Und fliehen sie und wanken sie, dann sagt man bei den Heidenvölkern: "Sie dürfen nirgendwo sich aufhalten".
They cried unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no more sojourn there.
16 Das Antlitz derer, deren Teil der Herr, er sieht es nicht mehr an. Auf Priester nimmt man keine Rücksicht mehr, erbarmt sich nicht der alten Leute.
The anger of Yhwh hath divided them; he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders.
17 Stets schauen unsere Augen voller Sehnsucht aus nach unserer Hilfe. Vergeblich unser Ausblicken! Wir hofften auf ein Volk, das nimmer hilft.
As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.
18 Sie lauerten auf unsere Schritte; wir konnten unsere Plätze nicht betreten. Der Untergang naht sich für uns, undunsere Tage laufen ab, das Ende kommt für uns.
They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.
19 Viel schneller waren unsere Verfolger, als es des Himmels Adler sind. Sie setzten uns noch in die Berge nach und lauerten uns in der Wüste auf.
Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.
20 Da wurde unser Lebensodem, des Herrn Gesalbter, in ihren Gruben eingefangen. Von diesem dachten wir: "In seinem Schatten leben wir unter den Völkern."
The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of Yhwh, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.
21 Freu dich, sei fröhlich, Edomstochter, die du das Land von Us bewohnst! An dich kommt auch der Kelch, und trunken wirst du dich entblößen.
Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.
22 Getilgt wird deine Schuld, du Sionstochter. Er wird dich nimmermehr verbannen. Doch deine Schuld, du Edomstochter, sucht er heim; und deine Sünden deckt er auf.
The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.
