Job 39
1 "Vielleicht kennst du der Gemsen Werfen? Acht gibst du auf der Hirschkuh Kreißen?
Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? [or] canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
2 Die Monde zählst du, die sie trächtig gehen? Die Zeit weißt du, da sie gebären?
Canst thou number the months [that] they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
3 Sie krümmen sich und trennen selber ihre Schnüre und machen ihren Nachwuchs frei.
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
4 Und ihre Jungen werden stark; im Freien wachsen sie; sie laufen fort und kehren nimmermehr zurück.
Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.
5 Wer hat den wilden Esel freigelassen? Wer ließ den Wildfang in die Freiheit,
Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?
6 dem ich die Wüste zur Behausung gab, die Salzsteppe zur Wohnung?
Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
7 Er spottet des Getöses in der Stadt; der Treiber Lärmen hört er nicht.
He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.
8 Was auf den Bergen er erspäht, ist seine Weide, und allem Grünen spürt er nach.
The range of the mountains [is] his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
9 Wird dir der Wildochs willig dienen? Und nächtigt er an deiner Krippe?
Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
10 Kannst du den Wildochsen an einen Zugstrick binden? Wird er, dir folgend, in den Tälern Gründe eggen?
Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
11 Verläßt du dich auf ihn, weil seine Kraft so groß, und überlässest du ihm deine Ernte?
Wilt thou trust him, because his strength [is] great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
12 Wirst du ihm zutrauen, daß er auch dresche und deine Saaternte heimbringen helfe?
Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather [it into] thy barn?
13 Des Straußes Flügel schlägt gar übermütig. Wennschon ein Storch nach Schwingen und nach Federn,
[Gavest thou] the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?
14 so überläßt er doch der Erde seine Eier und läßt sie auf dem Boden wärmen.
Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
15 Und er vergißt, daß sie ein Fuß zertreten, das Wild der Steppe sie zerdrücken könnte.
And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
16 Und er behandelt seine Jungen hart, als ob sie nicht die seinen wären, ganz sorglos, ob umsonst nicht seine Mühe.
She is hardened against her young ones, as though [they were] not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;
17 Denn Gott hat Klugheit ihm versagt und keinen Anteil an Verstand gegeben,
Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
18 sonst würde er an hochgelegenen Orten brüten und so des Rosses und des Reiters spotten. -
What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
19 Verleihst du wohl dem Rosse Heldenkraft, bekleidest seinen Hals mit einer Mähne,
Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
20 bewirkst du, daß es wie ein Rauchfang dampfe? Erschreckend ist sein mächtig Wiehern.
Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils [is] terrible.
21 Voll Freude springt es in das Tal; voll Kraft stürzt es den Harnischen entgegen.
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in [his] strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
22 Des Schreckens lacht's, hat keine Angst und macht nicht kehrt vorm Schwerte.
He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
23 Der Köcher klirrt auf ihm, der Speer, der blitzende, die Lanze.
The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
24 Mit Toben und mit Ungestüm scharrt's auf dem Boden, hält nimmer fest, tönt die Trompete.
He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that [it is] the sound of the trumpet.
25 Bei dem Trompetenklang ruft's: 'Hui!' Von ferne wittert es den Streit, der Fahrer Donnerruf, das Schlachtgeschrei.
He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
26 Nach deinem Gutdünken zieht wohl der Habicht fort und breitet nach dem Süden seine Flügel aus?
Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, [and] stretch her wings toward the south?
27 Auf dein Geheiß fliegt wohl so hoch der Adler und nistet in der Höhe?
Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
28 Er wohnt und horstet auf dem Felsen, auf Felsenzacken, auf der hohen Wacht.
She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
29 Von dort erspäht er sich den Fraß; in weite Fernen blicken seine Augen.
From thence she seeketh the prey, [and] her eyes behold afar off.
30 Und seine Brut stürzt sich auf Blut; wo Leichen sind, da ist auch er."
Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain [are], there [is] she.
