Jeremia 5
1 Durchstreift die Gassen von Jerusalem und seht euch um! Erkundet! Sucht auf ihren Plätzen, ob ihr nur einen findet, einen, der gerecht verfährt und sich der Redlichkeit befleißt! Dann will ich ihm verzeihen.
Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places of it, if ye can find a man, if there is any who does justly, who seeks truth, and I will pardon her.
2 Und sagen sie auch "Bei dem Herrn!", ein Meineid ist es. -
And though they say, As Jehovah lives, surely they swear falsely.
3 Herr, sind nicht Deine Augen auf Ehrlichkeit gerichtet? Du schlugest sie; sie aber bebten nicht. Du warst versöhnlich gegen sie; sie mochten keine Zucht annehmen. Sie machten härter als Gestein ihr Angesicht; sie weigerten sich umzukehren.
O Jehovah, do not thine eyes look upon truth? Thou have stricken them, but they were not grieved. Thou have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.
4 Ich dachte zwar: So ist wohl nur der Pöbel, der töricht sich gebärdet. Er kennt ja nicht des Herren Weg, die Satzung seines Gottes.
Then I said, Surely these are poor, they are foolish, for they know not the way of Jehovah, nor the law of their God.
5 Ich will mich an die Großen wenden und mit ihnen sprechen; die kennen doch des Herren Weg, die Satzung ihres Gottes. - Erst recht zerbrachen die das Joch und rissen Fesseln durch.
I will go to the great men, and will speak to them, for they know the way of Jehovah, and the law of their God. But these with one accord have broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.
6 Dafür schlägt sie der Löwe aus dem Wald und würgen sie die Steppenwölfe. An ihren Städten lauern Pardel. Wer sie verläßt, der wird zerrissen. Denn ohne Zahl sind ihre Missetaten und zahlreich ihre Sünden.
Therefore a lion out of the forest shall kill them; a wolf of the evenings shall destroy them; a leopard shall watch against their cities. Everyone who goes out from there shall be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.
7 "Weswegen soll ich dir verzeihen? Mich haben deine Söhne aufgegeben; bei Aftergöttern schwören sie. Ich habe feierlich mit ihnen mich verbunden, und dennoch brechen sie die Ehe und sind im Hurenhaus zu Gast.
How can I pardon thee? Thy sons have forsaken me, and sworn by those who are no gods. When I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the harlots' houses.
8 Sie gleichen hitzigen, genährten Hengsten; ein jeder wiehert nach des andern Weib.
They were as fed horses roaming at large; everyone neighed after his neighbor's wife.
9 Dafür soll ich sie nicht bestrafen?" Ein Spruch des Herrn. "An einem Volk wie diesem soll ich keine Rache nehmen?
Shall I not visit for these things? says Jehovah. And shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
10 Auf! Zerstöret ihre Rebenhänge! Tilgt sie! Doch ganz sollt ihr sie nicht vernichten! Haut ihre Ranken ab! Denn sie gehören nicht dem Herrn.
Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy, but make not a full end. Take away her branches, for they are not Jehovah's.
11 Verraten haben sie mich ja, das Haus von Israel und Judas Haus." Ein Spruch des Herrn.
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, says Jehovah.
12 Den Herrn verleugnen sie und sagen: "Es ist nichts mit ihm. Uns trifft kein Unglück. Wir spüren weder Schwert, noch Hunger.
They have denied Jehovah, and said, It is not he. Neither shall evil come upon us, nor shall we see sword nor famine.
13 Die Seher sind nur Luft. Durch sie spricht niemand. So muß man sie behandeln."
And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them. Thus shall it be done to them.
14 Deswegen spricht der Herr, der Gott der Heerscharen: "Dieweil ihr solche Reden führt, bin ich's, der meine Worte nun zu Feuer macht in deinem Munde und dieses Volk zu Holz, daß jenes sie verzehre.
Therefore thus says Jehovah, the God of hosts: Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.
15 Ich bringe über euch ein Volk aus fernem Land, Haus Israel!" Ein Spruch des Herrn. "Ein unverwüstlich Volk, ein uralt Volk, ein Volk, von dessen Sprache du nichts weißt, von dem du nicht verstehst, was es dir sagt.
Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, says Jehovah. It is a mighty nation. It is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou know not, nor understand what they say.
16 Dem offenen Grabe gleicht sein Rachen; Helden sind sie alle.
Their quiver is an open sepulcher. They are all mighty men.
17 Und wie dein Brot verzehrt es deine Ernte, verzehrt dir Söhne samt den Töchtern, verzehrt dir Schafe samt den Rindern, verzehrt dir Weinstock samt dem Feigenbaum, zerstört dir feste Städte mit dem Schwerte, und doch verläßt du dich auf diese.
And they shall eat up thy harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat. They shall eat up thy flocks and thy herds. They shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees. They shall beat down thy fortified cities, wherein thou trust, with the sword.
18 Doch auch in jenen Tagen", ein Spruch des Herrn, "Will ich nicht gänzlich euch vernichten. -
But even in those days, says Jehovah, I will not make a full end with you.
19 Und fraget ihr: 'Wofür tut uns der Herr und unser Gott dies alles?', so sprich zu ihnen: 'So wie ihr mich verlaßt und fremden Göttern dient in eurem Lande, so sollt ihr auch der Fremden Sklaven sein in einem Land, das nicht das eure ist!'"
And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Why has Jehovah our God done all these things to us? Then thou shall say to them, Just as ye have forsaken me, and served foreign gods in your land, so ye shall serve strangers in a land that is not yours.
20 Nun kündet dies dem Jakobshause! Ruft aus in Juda:
Declare ye this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,
21 "Vernimm dies, Volk, so töricht, unverständig, das Augen hat und doch nicht sieht, und Ohren und nicht hört!
Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding, who have eyes, and see not, who have ears, and hear not:
22 Mich wollt ihr nimmer fürchten?" Ein Spruch des Herrn. "Ihr wollt vor mir nicht zittern? Der ich dem Meer den Sand als Grenze setze, die es nach ewigem Gesetz nicht überschreitet. Sie branden zwar, doch sie vermögen nichts, und brausen seine Wogen noch so sehr, sie überschreiten's nicht.
Do ye not fear me? says Jehovah. Will ye not tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it? And though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet they cannot prevail, though they roar, yet they cannot pass over it.
23 Doch dieses Volk besitzt ein widerspenstig, arges Herz; sie fallen ab und gehen fort.
But this people has a revolting and a rebellious heart. They have revolted and gone.
24 Sie sprechen nicht in ihrem Herzen: 'Laßt vor dem Herren, unserm Gott, uns fürchten, der Regen gibt zu seiner Zeit, Herbstregen, Lenzesschauer; der uns der Erntefrüchte Fülle sichert!'
Neither do they say in their heart, Let us now fear Jehovah our God, who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season, who preserves to us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
25 Doch Störung brachten eure Sünden, und eure Frevel beraubten dieser Wohltat euch.
Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withheld good from you.
26 Ja, Frevler finden sich in meinem Volk, die, Fallen stellend, Menschen fangen, so wie man Vogelstellerstangen stellt.
For among my people are found wicked men. They watch as fowlers lie in wait. They set a trap; they catch men.
27 Gleich einem Korbe voller Vögel, sind ihre Häuser voll von ungerechtem Gut. Sie werden davon groß und reich.
As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit. Therefore they have become great, and grown rich.
28 Sie werden fett und feist und übertreffen selbst darin die wüsten Dinger. Sie mögen keine Sache richten und nicht der Waisen Handel schlichten, den Armen nicht zu ihrem Recht verhelfen.
They have grown fat. They shine. Yea, they overflow in deeds of wickedness. They do not plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper. And they do not judge the right of the needy.
29 Und solches sollt ich nicht bestrafen?" Ein Spruch des Herrn. "Soll ich an solcher Art von Volk nicht Rache nehmen?"
Shall I not visit for these things? says Jehovah. Shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
30 Entsetzliches und Gräßliches geschieht im Lande.
An astonishing and horrible thing has come to pass in the land.
31 Die Seher weissagen durch Trug; die Priester aber klatschen in die Hände, und dies erringt den Beifall meines Volks. Was aber tut ihr dann zuletzt?
The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means. And my people love to have it so. And what will ye do in the end thereof?
