Jeremia 20
1 Da hörte Paschur, Immers Sohn, der Priester, der Oberaufseher im Haus des Herrn, den Jeremias diese Worte künden.
Now Pashhur the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of the LORD, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things.
2 Da ließ Paschur den Propheten Jeremias stäupen und ihn legen in den Block, der bei dem oberen Tore Benjamins im Haus des Herrn gestanden.
Then Pashhur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of the LORD.
3 Am andern Morgen aber, als Paschur Jeremias aus dem Block entließ, sprach Jeremias so zu ihm: "Nicht 'Freudenreich' heißt dich der Herr mehr, sondern 'Grauenvoll'.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him: 'The LORD hath not called thy name Pashhur, but Magormissabib.
4 Denn also spricht der Herr: 'Ich mache dich zum Grauen für dich und alle deine Freunde. Sie fallen durch die Schwerter ihrer Feinde, und du mußt zusehen. Ganz Juda gebe ich dem Babelkönig preis, daß er nach Babel sie verschleppe und mit dem Schwerte schlage.
For thus saith the LORD: Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.
5 Und allen Reichtum dieser Stadt hier geb ich preis und all ihr Gut und ihre Kostbarkeiten. Den ganzen Schatz der Könige von Juda geb ich in ihrer Feinde Hand, daß sie ihn plündern, rauben und hin nach Babel bringen.
Moreover I will give all the store of this city, and all the gains thereof, and all the wealth thereof, yea, all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, who shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.
6 Du, Paschur, mußt mit allen deinen Hausgenossen in Gefangenschaft wegziehen. Du kommst nach Babel. Dort endest du, und dort wirst du begraben, samt allen deinen Freunden; denn Lügen hast du ihnen prophezeien lassen.'"
And thou, Pashhur, and all that dwell in thy house shall go into captivity; and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and there shalt thou be buried, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied falsely.'
7 Du locktest mich, o Herr: Ich ließ mich locken. Du packtest mich und bliebest Sieger. Nun bin ich täglich zum Gespött, und alles spottet über mich.
O LORD, Thou hast enticed me, and I was enticed, Thou hast overcome me, and hast prevailed; I am become a laughing-stock all the day, every one mocketh me.
8 Sooft ich rede, muß ich schreien: "Unbill!", "Gewalt!" ausrufen. Das Wort des Herrn bringt Schimpf und Spott mir ein den ganzen Tag.
For as often as I speak, I cry out, I cry: 'Violence and spoil'; because the word of the LORD is made a reproach unto me, and a derision, all the day.
9 Und nehme ich mir vor: "Ich denke nicht daran und rede nimmermehr in seinem Namen", dann ist's in meinem Innern wie ein lodernd Feuer, ein körperlicher Zwang. Ich quäle mich, es auszuhalten und kann es nicht.
And if I say: 'I will not make mention of Him, nor speak any more in His name', then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I weary myself to hold it in, but cannot.
10 Ich höre viele zischeln: "Grauenvoll!" "Sagt's nur, dann zeigen wir ihn an!" - All meine Freunde lauern nur, ob ich nicht falle: "Vielleicht läßt er sich locken; wir übermannen ihn und können Rache an ihm nehmen."
For I have heard the whispering of many, terror on every side: 'Denounce, and we will denounce him'; even of all my familiar friends, them that watch for my halting: 'Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.'
11 Doch ist der Herr mit mir, ein kühner Held. Die mich verfolgen, straucheln drum, und sie vermögen nichts. Mit großer Schande werden sie bedeckt, mit ewiger Schande unvergeßlich, weil es ihnen nicht gelingt.
But the LORD is with me as a mighty warrior; therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be greatly ashamed, because they have not prospered, even with an everlasting confusion which shall never be forgotten.
12 Du, Herr der Heeresscharen, Du gerechter Prüfer, der Du auf Herz und Nieren schaust! An ihnen schaue ich noch Deine Rache; ich habe meine Sache nur auf Dich gestellt.
But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, that seest the reins and the heart, let me see Thy vengeance on them; for unto Thee have I revealed my cause.
13 Lobsingt dem Herrn! Lobpreist den Herrn! Er rettet aus der Übeltäter Hand der Armen Leben.
Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD; for He hath delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evil-doers.
14 Verflucht der Tag, da ich geboren! Der Tag, da meine Mutter mich gebar, sei nicht gesegnet!
Cursed be the day wherein I was born; the day wherein my mother bore me, let it not be blessed.
15 Verflucht der Mann, der Kunde meinem Vater brachte: "Geboren wurde dir ein kräftig Knäblein", und ihn dazu beglückwünschte!
Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying: 'A man-child is born unto thee'; making him very glad.
16 Wär's diesem doch ergangen wie den Städten, die schonungslos der Herr vernichtet hat! Er hätte schon am Morgen ein Geschrei vernehmen sollen und Kriegslärm um die Mittagszeit!
And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not; and let him hear a cry in the morning, and an alarm at noontide;
17 Er ließ mich nicht im Mutterleibe sterben, daß meine Mutter mir mein Grab geworden, und immer hätte mich ihr Leib getragen.
Because He slew me not from the womb; and so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great.
18 Warum ging aus dem Mutterschoße ich hervor? Doch nur, um Gram und Kummer zu erleben und um in Schmach mein Leben zu beenden!
Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed in shame?
