Jakobus 3
1 Meine Brüder, drängt euch nicht als Lehrer auf! Ihr wisset, daß wir dadurch ein strengeres Gericht erwarten müssen.
Be ye not many masters, my brethren, knowing that you receive the greater judgment.
2 Wir alle fehlen ja in vielem; wer sich aber im Reden nicht verfehlt, der ist vollendet und fähig, auch den ganzen Leib im Zaume zu halten.
For in many things we all offend. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man. He is able also with a bridle to lead about the whole body.
3 Wenn wir den Pferden den Zaum ins Maul einlegen, damit sie uns gehorchen, so lenken wir damit auch ihren ganzen Körper.
For if we put bits into the mouths of horses, that they may obey us, and we turn about their whole body.
4 Seht auch die Schiffe; sie mögen noch so groß sein, von noch so starken Winden hin und her getrieben werden, sie lassen sich durch ein ganz kleines Steuerruder lenken, wohin der Steuermann es haben will.
Behold also ships, whereas they are great, and are driven by strong winds, yet are they turned about with a small helm, whithersoever the force of the governor willeth.
5 So ist auch die Zunge zwar ein kleines Glied und rühmt sich dennoch großer Dinge. Seht, welch kleines Feuer einen noch so großen Wald in Brand setzt.
Even so the tongue is indeed a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold how small a fire kindleth a great wood.
6 Auch die Zunge ist ein Feuer, eine ganze Welt der Ungerechtigkeit. Die Zunge ist unter unseren Gliedern die Macht, die den ganzen Leib befleckt und das Rad des Lebens in Brand setzt, sie, die ihr Feuer von der Hölle erhält. (Geenna g1067)
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is placed among our members, which defileth the whole body, and inflameth the wheel of our nativity, being set on fire by hell. (Geenna g1067)
7 Jedwede Art von Landtieren und Vögeln, von kriechenden Tieren und von Wassertieren, wird gezähmt und ward noch immer von der menschlichen Natur gezähmt;
For every nature of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of the rest, is tamed, and hath been tamed, by the nature of man:
8 die Zunge aber kann kein Mensch zähmen; dieses nimmermüde Übel voll von Todesgift.
But the tongue no man can tame, an unquiet evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Mit ihr preisen wir den Herrn und Vater, mit ihr verfluchen wir die Menschen, die doch nach dem Ebenbild Gottes geschaffen sind.
By it we bless God and the Father: and by it we curse men, who are made after the likeness of God.
10 Demselben Mund entquillt so Segen und Fluch. Meine Brüder, so darf es nicht sein.
Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
11 Sprudelt denn die Quelle aus derselben Mündung süßes und bitteres Wasser?
Doth a fountain send forth, out of the same hole, sweet and bitter water?
12 Kann denn, meine Brüder, der Feigenbaum Oliven tragen oder der Weinstock Feigen? Eine Salzquelle kann doch kein Süßwasser spenden.
Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear grapes; or the vine, figs? So neither can the salt water yield sweet.
13 Wer aus euch ist weise und verständig? Er zeige durch guten Lebenswandel seine Werke in sanftmütiger Weisheit.
Who is a wise man, and endued with knowledge among you? Let him shew, by a good conversation, his work in the meekness of wisdom.
14 Hegt ihr dagegen bittere Leidenschaftlichkeit sowie Rechthaberei in eurem Herzen, dann höret auf, euch zu rühmen und der Wahrheit ins Gesicht zu lügen.
But if you have bitter zeal, and there be contentions in your hearts; glory not, and be not liars against the truth.
15 Das ist nicht die Weisheit, die von oben kommt; nein, eine irdische, sinnliche, teuflische.
For this is not wisdom, descending from above: but earthly, sensual, devilish.
16 Denn wo Leidenschaftlichkeit vorherrscht und Rechthaberei, da ist Unordnung und jegliche Verkehrtheit.
For where envying and contention is, there is inconstancy, and every evil work.
17 Die Weisheit aber, die von oben stammt, ist vor allen Dingen lauter, dann friedliebend, bescheiden, folgsam, dem Guten zugetan, voll Erbarmen, voll guter Früchte, unparteiisch, ehrlich.
But the wisdom, that is from above, first indeed is chaste, then peaceable, modest, easy to be persuaded, consenting to the good, full of mercy and good fruits, without judging, without dissimulation.
18 Die Frucht der Gerechtigkeit wird ausgesät im Frieden für die, die selber Frieden halten.
And the fruit of justice is sown in peace, to them that make peace.
