Habakuk 2

1 Ich will auf meine Warte treten, mich auf meinen Wachtturm stellen, um also spähend zu vernehmen, was er mir sagt, was er auf meine Klage mir zur Antwort gibt.

I will stand vpon my watch, and set me vpon the towre, and wil looke and see what he would say vnto mee, and what I shall answere to him that rebuketh me.

2 Da gibt der Herr mir dies zur Antwort, und er spricht: "Schreib das Gesicht dir auf und zeichne es in Tafeln ein, daß jeder es geläufig lesen kann!

And the Lord answered me, and sayde, Write the vision, and make it plaine vpon tables, that he may runne that readeth it.

3 Denn noch geht das Gesicht auf die bestimmte Zeit und spricht vom Ende sonder Trug. Und wenn es zögern sollte, harre sein! Es kommt ja sicherlich und bleibt nicht aus.

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the last it shall speake, and not lie: though it tarie, waite: for it shall surely come, and shall not stay.

4 Wenn schon der Aufgeblasne seine Seele nicht glücklich macht, indessen der Gerechte leben bleibt durch seine Redlichkeit,

Beholde, he that lifteth vp himselfe, his minde is not vpright in him, but the iust shall liue by his fayth,

5 dann um so minder der Gewaltmensch, dieser Räuber, der Mann voll Übermut, der Ungesittete, der gleich der Hölle seinen Mund aufreißt und wie der Tod so unersättlich ist, der diesem alle Heidenvölker überliefert und alle Nationen zu ihm bringt." (Sheol h7585)

Yea, in deede the proude man is as hee that transgresseth by wine: therefore shall he not endure, because he hath enlarged his desire as the hell, and is as death, and can not be satisfied, but gathereth vnto him all nations, and heapeth vnto him all people. (Sheol h7585)

6 Stimmt da nicht alles über ihn ein Spottlied an und einen rätselhaften Spottgesang auf ihn? Man singt: "Ein Wehe dem, der aufgespeichert, was nicht sein, - wie lange noch? - und der das Pfand so schwer gemacht!"

Shall not all these take vp a parable against him, and a tanting prouerbe against him, and say, Ho, he that increaseth that which is not his? howe long? and hee that ladeth himselfe with thicke clay?

7 Ja, stehen deine Gläubiger nicht plötzlich auf, erwachen deine Peiniger? Zur Beute fällst du ihnen zu.

Shall they not rise vp suddenly, that shall bite thee? and awake, that shall stirre thee? and thou shalt be their praye?

8 Weil viele Heidenvölker du ausgeplündert hast, so plündert dich der Völker ganzer Überrest für das vergossene Menschenblut und für die Grausamkeit an Stadt und Land und was darin.

Because thou hast spoyled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoyle thee, because of mens blood, and for the wrong done in the land, in the citie, and vnto all that dwell therein.

9 Weh dem, der schändlichen Gewinn in seinem Hause häuft, um seinen Sitz sich in der Höhe anzulegen und sich vor Unheilshand zu retten!

Ho, he that coueteth an euil couetousnesse to his house, that he may set his nest on hie, to escape from the power of euil.

10 Du hast gar schmählich für dein Haus gesorgt, so vielen Völkern Untergang bereitet, und so versündigst du dich an dir selbst.

Thou hast consulted shame to thine owne house, by destroying many people, and hast sinned against thine owne soule.

11 Denn jeder Stein schreit aus der Wand, und jeder Balken aus dem Holzwerk stimmt ihm bei:

For the stone shall crie out of the wall, and the beame out of the timber shall answere it.

12 "Weh dem, der eine Stadt mit Blutschuld baut und eine Burg mit Frevel!"

Wo vnto him that buildeth a towne with blood, and erecteth a citie by iniquitie.

13 Ist solches nicht verhängt vom Herrn der Heerscharen, daß sich fürs Feuer Völker mühen und für ein Nichts Nationen sich ermüden?

Beholde, is it not of the Lord of hostes that the people shall labour in ye very fire? the people shall euen weary themselues for very vanitie.

14 Die Erde sollte von Einsicht in die Herrschergröße des Herrn erfüllt sein, wie den Meeresboden Wasser decken.

For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters couer the sea.

15 Weh dem, der seinen Nachbar trinken läßt! Weh dir, der du dem Trunk dein Gift beimischest, um ihre Blöße anzuschaun.

Wo vnto him that giueth his neighbour drinke: thou ioynest thine heate, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest see their priuities.

16 Du sättigst dich an Schmach mehr als an Ruhm. Trink selber nun und taumle hin! Zu dir kommt jetzt der Becher in der rechten Hand des Herrn, und deine Ehre wird bespieen.

Thou art filled with shame for glorie: drinke thou also, and be made naked: the cup of the Lords right hand shall be turned vnto thee, and shamefull spuing shalbe for thy glory.

17 Des Libanon Verwüstung lastet ja auf dir, und die Gewalttat an den Tieren wird für dich zum Schrecken wegen des vergossenen Menschenblutes und der Grausamkeit an Stadt und Land und allen, die dort wohnen.

For the crueltie of Lebanon shall couer thee: so shall the spoyle of the beastes, which made them afraide, because of mens blood, and for the wrong done in the land, in the citie, and vnto all that dwell therein.

18 Was nützt ein Schnitzbild, daß es sein Bildner schnitzte? Ein Gußbild, das nur Lüge lehrt, wenn sich des Künstlers Herz darauf verläßt, derweil er stumme Götzen macht?

What profiteth the image? for the maker thereof hath made it an image, and a teacher of lies, though he that made it, trust therein, when he maketh dumme idoles.

19 Weh dem, der zu dem Holze spricht: "Erwache!", "Wach auf!" zum stummen Stein, daß er Bescheid ihm gäbe! Gefaßt ist er in Gold und Silber nur; in seinem Innern aber ist kein Geist.

Wo vnto him that sayth to the wood, Awake, and to the dumme stone, Rise vp, it shall teach thee: beholde, it is layde ouer with golde and siluer, and there is no breath in it.

20 Dagegen vor dem Herrn in seinem heiligen Tempel, vor ihm sei still die ganze Welt!

But the Lord is in his holy Temple: let all the earth keepe silence before him.
