1 Mose 16

1 Sarai aber, Abrams Weib, hatte ihm kein Kind geboren; sie hatte aber eine ägyptische Magd, die Hagar hieß.

Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name [was] Hagar.

2 Nun sprach Sarai zu Abram: "Der Herr hat mir Kinder versagt. Heirate meine Magd! Vielleicht komme ich durch sie zu Kindern. Und Abram folgte den Worten Sarais.

And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

3 So nahm Sarai, Abrams Weib, ihre Magd, die Ägypterin Hagar, nach Ablauf von zehn Jahren, die Abram im Lande Kanaan gewohnt, und gab sie ihrem Manne Abram, ihm selbst, zum Weib.

And Sarai Abram’s wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.

4 Und er heiratete Hagar, und sie empfing. Als sie aber sah, daß sie guter Hoffnung war, sank ihre Herrin in ihren Augen.

And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.

5 Da sprach Sarai zu Abram: "Meine Kränkung über dich! Ich selbst habe dir meine Magd abgetreten; nun sie aber sah, daß sie in Hoffnung sei, sank ich in ihren Augen. Zwischen mir und dir richte der Herr!"

And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong [be] upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.

6 Da sprach Abram zu Sarai: "In deiner Hand ist deine Magd. Tue mit ihr, wie es dir gefällt!" Da drückte Sarai sie so, daß sie ihr entfloh.

But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid [is] in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.

7 Der Engel des Herrn aber traf sie an einem gewissen Wasserquell in der Wüste, am Quell auf dem Wege nach Schur.

And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.

8 Und er sprach: "Hagar, Sarais Magd, wo kommst du her? Wo gehst du hin?" Sie sprach: "Vor meiner Herrin Sarai bin ich flüchtig."

And he said, Hagar, Sarai’s maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.

9 Da sprach der Engel des Herrn zu ihr: "Kehr heim zu deiner Herrin und unterwirf dich ihren Händen!"

And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.

10 Dann sprach der Engel des Herrn zu ihr: "Ich mache deinen Stamm gar zahlreich; vor Menge kann man ihn nicht zählen."

And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.

11 Und der Engel des Herrn sprach zu ihr: "Du bist gesegnet und wirst einen Sohn gebären. Den heißest du Ismael: denn der Herr hat dein Elend gehört.

And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou [art] with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.

12 Ein Wildeselmensch wird er werden; seine Hand gegen alle und aller Hand gegen ihn! Allen seinen Brüdern steht er dreist gegenüber."

And he will be a wild man; his hand [will be] against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.

13 Da nannte sie den Herrn, der mit ihr redete, "du bist der Gott des Trostes"; denn sie sprach: "Habe ich nicht schließlich Trost erfahren?"

And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?

14 Daher nannte man den Brunnen: Lachaj Roi (Des Lebenden Trostbrunnen): er liegt zwischen Kades und Berad.

Wherefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, [it is] between Kadesh and Bered.

15 Und Hagar gebar dem Abram einen Sohn, und Abram nannte den Sohn, den ihm Hagar geboren, Ismael.

And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son’s name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.

16 Und Abram war 86 Jahre alt, als Hagar dem Abram den Ismael gebar.

And Abram [was] fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.
