Apostelgeschichte 7
1 Der Hohepriester aber fragte: "Verhält sich das so?"
Then said the high priest, Are these things so?
2 Stephanus antwortete: "Meine Brüder! Väter! Höret! Der hocherhabene Gott erschien einst unserem Vater Abraham, als er noch in Mesopotamien lebte, bevor er sich in Charran niederließ,
And he said, Men, brothers, and fathers, listen; The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelled in Charran,
3 und sprach zu ihm: 'Zieh weg aus deinem Land und aus deiner Verwandtschaft und zieh in das Land, das ich dir zeigen werde.'
And said to him, Get you out of your country, and from your kindred, and come into the land which I shall show you.
4 Da machte er sich aus dem Lande der Chaldäer auf und zog nach Charran. Nach dem Tode seines Vaters versetzte ihn Gott von dort in dieses Land, wo ihr jetzt wohnt.
Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelled in Charran: and from there, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein you now dwell.
5 Doch gab er ihm darin kein Erbe, nicht eines Fußes Breite, sondern er versprach ihm nur, er werde später ihm und seinem Stamm es als Besitztum geben, obwohl er damals noch kein Kind besaß.
And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.
6 Also sprach nämlich Gott: 'Seine Nachkommen werden als Fremdlinge in fremdem Lande wohnen; man wird sie knechten und sie vierhundert Jahre lang hart bedrücken.
And God spoke on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years.
7 Das Volk jedoch, dem sie als Knechte dienen, werde ich richten', so sprach Gott. 'Doch später werden sie von dannen ziehen und mir an diesem Orte dienen.'
And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place.
8 Dann gab er ihnen das Bundeszeichen der Beschneidung. Kraft desselben zeugte er den Isaak und beschnitt ihn am achten Tage. Isaak zeugte weiterhin den Jakob, und dieser die zwölf Patriarchen.
And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham was the father of Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac was the father of Jacob; and Jacob was the father of the twelve patriarchs.
9 Die Patriarchen waren eifersüchtig gegen Joseph und verkauften ihn nach Ägypten. Indes war Gott mit ihm.
And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him,
10 Er rettete ihn aus allen seinen Drangsalen, und er verlieh ihm Gunst und Weisheit vor Pharao, dem König von Ägypten. Dieser machte ihn zum Herrn Ägyptens und seines ganzen Hauses.
And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.
11 Doch eine Hungersnot kam über ganz Ägypten und Kanaan; groß war das Elend, und unsere Väter konnten keine Lebensmittel finden.
Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.
12 Da hörte Jakob, daß es in Ägypten noch Getreide gebe; er sandte unsere Väter ein erstesmal dorthin.
But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.
13 Beim zweitenmal gab sich dann Joseph seinen Brüdern zu erkennen, und so ward dem Pharao die Abstammung des Joseph bekannt.
And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brothers; and Joseph’s kindred was made known to Pharaoh.
14 Hierauf ließ Joseph seinen Vater Jakob und alle Verwandten kommen; es waren fünfundsiebzig Seelen.
Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, three score and fifteen souls.
15 So zog Jakob nach Ägypten, wo er starb, er und unsere Väter.
So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers,
16 Man brachte sie nach Sichem; sie wurden in dem Grabe beigesetzt, das Abraham einst um eine Summe Geldes von den Söhnen Hemors in Sichem gekauft hatte.
And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulcher that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem.
17 Wie nun die Zeit für die Verheißung nahte, die Gott dem Abraham zugesagt hatte, da mehrte sich das Volk in Ägypten und wurde zahlreich,
But when the time of the promise drew near, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,
18 bis in Ägypten ein anderer König zur Herrschaft kam, der nichts von Joseph wußte.
Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph.
19 Und er verfuhr mit unserem Geschlechte hinterlistig: er bedrückte unsere Väter, die ihre Kinder aussetzen mußten, damit sie nicht am Leben blieben.
The same dealt subtly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.
20 In dieser Zeit kam Moses auf die Weit: er war Gott wohlgefällig. Drei Monate hindurch ward er im Vaterhause auferzogen;
In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father’s house three months:
21 dann setzte man ihn aus. Die Tochter Pharaos nahm ihn indessen an sich und zog ihn für sich auf als den eigenen Sohn.
And when he was cast out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.
22 Und Moses ward in aller Weisheit der Ägypter unterrichtet; mächtig in Wort und Tat.
And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.
23 Als er vierzig Jahre alt war, kam ihm das Verlangen, sich nach den Israeliten, seinen Brüdern, umzusehen.
And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brothers the children of Israel.
24 Da sah er, wie irgendeinem Unrecht getan ward. Er setzte sich zur Wehr und schaffte dem Mißhandelten sein Recht und schlug den Ägypter tot.
And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian:
25 Er meinte, seine Brüder würden wohl verstehen, daß Gott ihnen Rettung durch seine Hand verschaffen wolle; doch sie verstanden es nicht.
For he supposed his brothers would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.
26 Des anderen Tags kam er zu ihnen, als sie gerade miteinander stritten. Er wollte zwischen ihnen Frieden stiften mit den Worten: 'Ihr seid doch Brüder, Männer! Warum tut ihr einander Unrecht an?'
And the next day he showed himself to them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, you are brothers; why do you wrong one to another?
27 Doch der, der seinem Nächsten unrecht tat, stieß ihn zurück und sagte: 'Wer hat denn dich zum Herrn und Richter über uns gemacht?
But he that did his neighbor wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?
28 Willst du etwa mich töten, so wie du gestern den Ägypter totgeschlagen hast?'
Will you kill me, as you did the Egyptian yesterday?
29 Auf diese Worte hin brachte Moses sich in Sicherheit und lebte im Lande Madian als Fremdling, wo er Vater von zwei Söhnen wurde.
Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he was the father of two sons.
30 Vierzig Jahre waren schon vorüber, da erschien ihm in der Wüste bei dem Berge Sinai ein Engel in der Flamme eines brennenden Dornbusches.
And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.
31 Voll Verwunderung sah Moses die Erscheinung. Als er hinzutrat, um sie zu betrachten, erging die Stimme des Herrn:
When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the LORD came to him,
32 'Ich bin der Gott deiner Väter, der Gott Abrahams, Isaaks und Jakobs.' Moses zitterte und wagte nicht, dorthin zu schauen.
Saying, I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and dared not behold.
33 Und also sprach der Herr zu ihm: 'Ziehe deine Schuhe aus! Der Ort, auf dem du stehst, ist heiliges Land.
Then said the Lord to him, Put off your shoes from your feet: for the place where you stand is holy ground.
34 Ich habe die Bedrückung meines Volkes in Ägypten gesehen und ihr Seufzen gehört; ich bin herabgekommen, damit ich es befreie. So komm denn, ich will dich nach Ägypten senden.'
I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you into Egypt.
35 Denselben Moses, den sie verworfen hatten, indem sie sprachen: 'Wer hat denn dich zum Herrn und Richter eingesetzt?', den hat Gott als Herrn und Befreier gesandt unter dem Schutz eines Engels, der ihm im Dornbusch erschienen war.
This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made you a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.
36 Und dieser führte sie heraus, vollbrachte Wunder und Zeichen im Lande Ägypten, im Roten Meer und in der Wüste, vierzig Jahre lang.
He brought them out, after that he had showed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.
37 Es ist derselbe Moses, der den Söhnen Israels gesagt hatte: 'Einen Propheten wie mich wird Gott euch erwecken aus der Mitte eurer Brüder.'
This is that Moses, which said to the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up to you of your brothers, like to me; him shall you hear.
38 Er ist es auch, der bei der Gemeinde in der Wüste mit dem Engel verkehrte, der auf dem Berge Sinai mit ihm und mit unseren Vätern redete, und er empfing die Worte des Lebens, um sie euch mitzuteilen.
This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spoke to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give to us:
39 Doch unsere Väter wollten ihm nicht gehorsam sein; sie lehnten ihn vielmehr ab und wandten sich in ihren Herzen wieder Ägypten zu.
To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
40 So sprachen sie zu Aaron: 'Verschaffe uns Götter, die vor uns herziehen; wir wissen nicht, was aus dem Moses da geworden ist, der uns aus Ägypten herausgeführt hat.'
Saying to Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him.
41 Sie machten sich in jenen Tagen ein Kalb, brachten diesem Götzenbild Opfer dar und ergötzten sich an dem Gebilde ihrer Hände.
And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
42 Da wandte Gott sich von ihnen ab und ließ sie dem Himmelsheer dienen, wie es geschrieben steht im Buche der Propheten. 'Habt ihr mir etwa Schlachttiere und Opfer dargebracht die vierzig Jahre in der Wüste, Haus Israel?
Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O you house of Israel, have you offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?
43 O nein, das Zelt des Moloch und das Sternbild eures Gottes Rempham habt ihr herumgeführt, die Bilder, die ihr selbst verfertigt habt, um sie anzubeten. Ich werde euch noch über Babylon hinaus verbannen.'
Yes, you took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which you made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.
44 Unsere Väter hatten in der Wüste das Bundeszelt, wie der es angeordnet hatte, der zu Moses sprach: 'Er soll es machen nach dem Vorbilde, das er gesehen hat.'
Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking to Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen.
45 Und dieses übernahmen unsere Väter und brachten es mit sich, als sie dann unter Josue das Land der Heiden zum Besitz erhielten, die Gott vor unseren Vätern hernach vertrieb. So blieb es bis auf Davids Zeit.
Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers, to the days of David;
46 Dieser war Gott wohlgefällig und bat, ob er für den Gott Jakobs nicht eine Wohnung machen dürfe.
Who found favor before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.
47 Jedoch erst Salomo erbaute ihm ein Haus.
But Solomon built him an house.
48 Allein der Allerhöchste wohnt nicht in Stätten, die von Menschenhand gemacht sind. Sagt doch schon der Prophet:
However, the most High dwells not in temples made with hands; as says the prophet,
49 'Der Himmel ist mein Thron, die Erde der Schemel meiner Füße. Was für ein Haus wollt ihr mir bauen', spricht der Herr, 'oder wo ist der Ort, an dem ich ständig wohnen kann?
Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will you build me? says the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?
50 Hat denn nicht meine Hand all dies geschaffen?'
Has not my hand made all these things?
51 O ihr Halsstarrigen und Unbeschnittenen an Herz und Ohren! Ihr widerstrebt allzeit dem Heiligen Geiste, wie eure Väter, so auch ihr.
You stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do you.
52 Gibt es einen Propheten, den eure Väter nicht verfolgt haben? Sie haben die ermordet, die das Kommen des Gerechten vorherverkündigt haben; ihr selbst seid nun seine Verräter und Mörder geworden,
Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom you have been now the betrayers and murderers:
53 ihr, die ihr das Gesetz auf Anordnung von Engeln zwar erhalten, aber nicht gehalten habt."
Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.
54 Bei diesen Worten ergrimmten sie in ihrem Innersten und knirschten mit den Zähnen gegen ihn.
When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
55 Stephanus aber, voll des Heiligen Geistes, blickte zum Himmel empor und sah die Herrlichkeit Gottes und Jesus stehend zur Rechten Gottes
But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
56 und rief aus: "O schaut! Ich sehe die Himmel offen und den Menschensohn zur Rechten Gottes stehen."
And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
57 Da erhoben sie ein wüstes Geschrei und hielten sich die Ohren zu. Alle miteinander stürzten sie auf ihn los,
Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran on him with one accord,
58 stießen ihn zur Stadt hinaus und steinigten ihn. Die Zeugen gaben ihre Kleider einem jungen Manne namens Saul in Verwahrung.
And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man’s feet, whose name was Saul.
59 So steinigten sie den Stephanus. Er betete: "Herr Jesus, nimm meinen Geist auf!"
And they stoned Stephen, calling on God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
60 Dann sank er in die Knie und rief mit lauter Stimme: "Herr, rechne ihnen diese Sünde nicht an!" Damit entschlief er.
And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
