Apostelgeschichte 26

1 Agrippa sprach zu Paulus: "Du darfst dich jetzt verteidigen." Da streckte Paulus seine Hand aus und begann seine Verteidigungsrede.

Then Agrippa said to Paul, “Yoʋ have permission to speak for yoʋrself.” So Paul stretched out his hand and began to make his defense:

2 "König Agrippa, ich schätze mich glücklich, daß ich mich wegen all der Anklagen, die die Juden gegen mich erheben, heute vor dir verteidigen darf.

“I consider myself fortunate that it is before yoʋ, King Agrippa, that I am about to make my defense today concerning all the things of which I am being accused by the Jews,

3 Du bist ja ein vorzüglicher Kenner aller jüdischen Gebräuche und Streitfragen. Ich bitte deshalb, mich in Geduld zu hören.

especially since yoʋ are acquainted with all the customs and controversies of the Jews. Therefore I beg yoʋ to listen to me patiently.

4 Alle Juden kennen meinen Lebenswandel unter meinem Volke von meiner Jugend an und in Jerusalem.

“All the Jews know about my manner of life from my youth up, which was spent from the beginning among my own nation in Jerusalem.

5 Sie kennen mich von früher her und können, wenn sie wollen, es bezeugen, daß ich gemäß der strengsten Richtung unserer Religion gelebt habe, nämlich als Pharisäer.

They have known about me for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived as a Pharisee.

6 Und nun stehe ich vor Gericht wegen der Hoffnung auf die Verheißung, die von Gott an unsere Väter ergangen ist.

And now I am standing trial because of my hope in the promise God made to our fathers,

7 Ihrer teilhaftig zu werden, hofft unser Zwölfstämmevolk mit Sehnsucht und dient unablässig Gott bei Tag und Nacht. Um dieser Hoffnung willen, König, bin ich von den Juden angeklagt.

a promise that our twelve tribes hope to attain as they earnestly serve him night and day. Regarding this hope, King Agrippa, I am being accused by the Jews.

8 Warum wird es bei euch für unglaubhaft gehalten, daß Gott Tote auferweckt?

Why is it deemed unbelievable by you that God raises the dead?

9 Freilich, einstens glaubte auch ich, gegen den Namen Jesus von Nazareth viel Feindseliges verüben zu müssen.

“Indeed, I myself was convinced that I ought to do many things against the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

10 Das tat ich in Jerusalem; auch verschaffte ich mir Vollmacht von den Oberpriestern und ließ viele Heilige ins Gefängnis bringen und, wo es sich darum handelte, sie hinzurichten, gab ich meine Zustimmung.

And that is just what I did in Jerusalem. I locked up many of the saints in prison by the authority I received from the chief priests, and when they were being put to death, I cast my vote against them.

11 In allen Synagogen suchte ich sie durch Strafen oftmals zur Lästerung zu zwingen; ja, in meiner maßlosen Wut gegen sie verfolgte ich sie auch bis in die auswärtigen Städte.

I also punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to force them to blaspheme. And being furiously enraged against them, I pursued them even to foreign cities.

12 So zog ich mit Vollmacht und im Auftrag der Oberpriester auch nach Damaskus.

“While engaged in such things, I was on my way to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests,

13 Da sah ich, König, wie am Mittag auf dem Wege vom Himmel her ein Licht, noch glänzender als die Sonne, mich selbst umstrahlte und auch die, die bei mir waren.

when at midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining around me and those who were traveling with me.

14 Wir alle stürzten zu Boden. Und da vernahm ich eine Stimme, die in hebräischer Sprache mir zurief: 'Saul, Saul, warum verfolgst du mich? Es wird dir schwer sein, gegen den Stachel auszuschlagen.'

When we had all fallen down to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are yoʋ persecuting me? It is hard for yoʋ to kick against the goads.’

15 Ich aber fragte: 'Herr, wer bist du?' Er gab zur Antwort: 'Ich bin Jesus, den du verfolgst.

I said, ‘Who are yoʋ, Lord?’ He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom yoʋ are persecuting.

16 Doch nun steh auf und stelle dich auf deine Füße! Denn dazu bin ich dir erschienen, um dich zum Diener und zum Zeugen dessen zu bestellen, was du gesehen hast und was ich dir noch offenbaren werde.

But rise and stand on yoʋr feet, for I have appeared to yoʋ for this purpose, to appoint yoʋ as a servant and witness to the things yoʋ have seen and to the things in which I will appear to yoʋ.

17 Ich will dich aus dem Volke retten und auch aus den Heiden, zu denen ich dich sende.

I will rescue yoʋ from yoʋr own people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending yoʋ

18 Du sollst ihnen die Augen öffnen, damit sie sich aus der Finsternis zum Licht und aus der Macht des Satans zu Gott bekehren, damit sie Verzeihung ihrer Sünden und Anteil mit den Heiligen erhalten dadurch, daß sie an mich glauben.'

to open their eyes so that they may turn away from darkness to light, and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive remission of sins and an allotment among those who have been sanctified by faith in me.’

19 Sonach konnte ich, König Agrippa, der himmlischen Erscheinung nicht ungehorsam sein.

“Consequently, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,

20 Ich predigte zuerst denen in Damaskus und in Jerusalem, dann in der ganzen Landschaft Judäa und endlich bei den Heiden, sie sollten sich bekehren und sich Gott zuwenden und Werke tun entsprechend der Bekehrung.

but first to those in Damascus and then to those in Jerusalem, to all the region of Judea and to the Gentiles, I proclaimed that they should repent and turn to God, doing works consistent with repentance.

21 Deshalb ergriffen mich die Juden im Tempel und suchten mich zu töten.

That is why the Jews seized me in the temple courts and were trying to kill me.

22 Doch da mir bis auf diesen Tag Gott seine Hilfe lieh, so lege ich aufrecht vor klein und groß mein Zeugnis ab, daß ich nichts anderes sage als was schon die Propheten und Moses geweissagt haben:

But having obtained help from God, I stand to this day testifying to both small and great, saying nothing except what the Prophets and Moses said would take place:

23 Der Messias werde leiden, als Erster von den Toten auferstehen und dem Volke wie den Heiden das Licht verkünden."

that the Christ would suffer and that, as the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light to our people and to the Gentiles.”

24 Da Paulus dies zu seiner Verteidigung sagte, rief Festus laut aus: "Du bist von Sinnen, Paulus! Das viele Studieren bringt dich ganz um den Verstand."

As Paul was saying these things in his own defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Yoʋ are out of yoʋr mind, Paul. Too much learning is driving yoʋ insane!”

25 Paulus erwiderte: "Edler Festus, ich bin nicht von Sinnen; nein, wahr und wohlbedacht sind meine Worte.

But Paul said, “I am not out of my mind, most excellent Festus, but I am speaking words of truth and good sense.

26 Der König kennt sich in diesen Dingen sehr wohl aus, weshalb ich mit allem Freimut vor ihm rede; denn ich kann nicht glauben, es sei ihm etwas davon unbekannt geblieben, die Sache trug sich ja nicht in einem abgelegenen Winkel zu.

For the king knows about these things, to whom I am speaking boldly. I am convinced that none of these things has escaped his notice at all, for this has not been done in a corner.

27 König Agrippa, glaubst du den Propheten? Ich weiß, du glaubst."

Do yoʋ believe the Prophets, King Agrippa? I know that yoʋ believe.”

28 Agrippa erwiderte dem Paulus: "Fast überredest du mich, Christ zu werden."

Agrippa said to Paul, “Do yoʋ think yoʋ can persuade me to become a Christian so quickly?”

29 Paulus entgegnete: "Wollte Gott, daß über kurz oder lang nicht nur du allein, nein alle, die mich heute hören, so würden, wie ich bin, nur abgesehen von diesen Ketten da."

Paul said, “Whether quickly or not, I pray to God that not only yoʋ but also all who are listening to me today would become as I am, except for these chains.”

30 Da erhoben sich der König, der Statthalter, Berenike und die übrigen Anwesenden.

After Paul said these things, the king stood up, along with the governor, Bernice, and those who were sitting with them.

31 Im Weggehen sprachen sie zueinander: "Dieser Mensch hat nichts getan, was Tod oder Gefängnis verdiente."

After leaving the room, they began saying to one another, “This man is doing nothing that deserves death or imprisonment.”

32 Und Agrippa sagte zu Festus: "Man könnte den Mann freilassen, hätte er nicht Berufung an den Kaiser eingelegt."

And Agrippa said to Festus, “This man could have been released if he had not appealed to Caesar.”
