Apostelgeschichte 18

1 Hierauf schied Paulus von Athen und begab sich nach Korinth.

After these thinges, Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinthus,

2 Dort traf er einen Juden mit Namen Aquila, der aus Pontus gebürtig und kurz zuvor aus Italien angekommen war, und dessen Frau Priszilla. Claudius hatte nämlich angeordnet, daß alle Juden Rom verlassen müßten. Zu ihnen begab er sich,

And found a certaine Iewe named Aquila, borne in Pontus, lately come from Italie, and his wife Priscilla (because that Claudius had commanded all Iewes to depart from Rome) and he came vnto them.

3 und weil sie das gleiche Handwerk hatten, blieb er bei ihnen und nahm dort Arbeit; sie waren nämlich von Beruf Zeltweber.

And because hee was of the same crafte, he abode with them and wrought (for their crafte was to make tentes.)

4 Jeden Sabbat sprach er in der Synagoge wobei er den Namen des Herrn Jesus einflocht und suchte Juden und Heiden zu überzeugen.

And he disputed in the Synagogue euery Sabbath day, and exhorted the Iewes, and the Grecians.

5 Als jedoch Silas und Timotheus von Mazedonien her eingetroffen waren, widmete sich Paulus ganz der Predigt und wies den Juden nach, daß Jesus der Messias ist.

Now when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul, forced in spirit, testified to the Iewes that Iesus was the Christ.

6 Da sie sich aber dagegen auflehnten und Lästerungen ausstießen, schüttelte er seine Kleider aus und sprach zu ihnen: "Euer Blut komme über euer Haupt. Mich trifft keine Schuld; von nun an will ich zu den Heiden gehen."

And when they resisted and blasphemed, he shooke his raiment, and saide vnto them, Your blood be vpon your owne head: I am cleane: from henceforth will I goe vnto the Gentiles.

7 Er ging von da weg und begab sich in das Haus eines gottesfürchtigen Mannes, Titius Justus mit Namen; sein Haus stieß an die Synagoge.

So he departed thence, and entred into a certaine mans house, named Iustus, a worshipper of God, whose house ioyned hard to the Synagogue.

8 Der Synagogenvorsteher Krispus nahm mit seiner ganzen Familie den Glauben an den Herrn an. Auch viele andere Zuhörer in Korinth wurden gläubig und ließen sich taufen.

And Crispus the chiefe ruler of the Synagogue, beleeued in the Lord with all his housholde: and many of the Corinthians hearing it, beleeued and were baptized.

9 Es sprach aber bei Nacht der Herr in einem Gesicht zu Paulus: "Fürchte dich nicht! Rede weiterhin und schweige nicht!

Then saide the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Feare not, but speake, and holde not thy peace.

10 Ich bin mit dir, und niemand soll dir weiterhin ein Leid zufügen; denn viel Volk in dieser Stadt ist mein."

For I am with thee, and no man shall lay handes on thee to hurt thee: for I haue much people in this citie.

11 Paulus blieb dort ein Jahr und sechs Monate und predigte unter ihnen das Wort Gottes.

So he continued there a yeere and six moneths, and taught ye worde of God among them.

12 Als Gallio Prokonsul von Achaia war, traten die Juden einmütig gegen Paulus auf, führten ihn vor den Richterstuhl

Now when Gallio was Deputie of Achaia, the Iewes arose with one accorde against Paul, and brought him to the iudgement seate,

13 und erhoben die Anklage: "Der verführt die Leute, Gott in einer Weise zu verehren, die gegen das Gesetz verstößt.

Saying, This fellow persuadeth me to worship God otherwise then the Lawe appointeth.

14 Schon war Paulus im Begriffe zu erwidern, da sagte Gallio zu den Juden: "Würde es sich um eine Freveltat oder um ein Bubenstück handeln, ihr Juden, so würde ich eure Klage annehmen, so wie es sich gehört.

And as Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio saide vnto the Iewes, If it were a matter of wrong, or an euill deede, O ye Iewes, I would according to reason maintaine you.

15 Handelt es sich aber um Streitigkeiten über Lehre, Namen oder über euer Gesetz, da möget ihr selbst zusehen. In solchen Dingen will ich nicht Richter sein."

But if it bee a question of woordes, and names, and of your Lawe, looke yee to it your selues: for I will be no iudge of those things.

16 Und er ließ sie von seinem Richterstuhl fortjagen.

And hee draue them from the iudgement seate.

17 Nun fielen alle Heiden über den Synagogenvorsteher Sosthenes her und schlugen ihn vor dem Richterstuhle. Gallio aber kümmerte sich nicht darum.

Then tooke al the Grecians Sosthenes the chiefe ruler of the Synagogue, and beat him before the iudgement seat: but Gallio cared nothing for those things.

18 Paulus verblieb noch geraume Zeit. Hierauf nahm er Abschied von den Brüdern und fuhr nach Syrien. Bei ihm waren Priszilla und Aquila. In Kenchreä ließ er sich das Haupt scheren, denn er hatte ein Gelübde gemacht.

But when Paul had taried there yet a good while, hee tooke leaue of the brethren, and sailed into Syria (and with him Priscilla and Aquila) after that he had shorne his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vowe.

19 Sie kamen nach Ephesus, wo er sie zurückließ. Er selbst ging in die Synagoge und predigte den Juden.

Then hee came to Ephesus, and left them there: but hee entred into the Synagogue and disputed with the Iewes.

20 Obwohl sie ihn baten, längere Zeit zu bleiben, ging er doch nicht darauf ein,

Who desired him to tarie a longer time with them: but he would not consent,

21 sondern nahm Abschied mit den Worten: "So Gott will, werde ich wieder zu euch kommen." - Dann reiste er von Ephesus weg

But bade the farewel, saying, I must needes keepe this feast that commeth, in Hierusalem: but I will returne againe vnto you, if God will. So he sailed from Ephesus.

22 und kam nach Cäsarea. Von dort ging er nach Jerusalem hinauf, begrüßte die Gemeinde und begab sich dann nach Antiochien.

And when hee came downe to Cesarea, he went vp to Hierusalem: and when he had saluted the Church, he went downe vnto Antiochia.

23 Nach einiger Zeit brach er wieder auf. Er durchwanderte nacheinander die Landschaft von Galatien und Phrygien und bestärkte alle Jünger.

Nowe when he had taried there a while, he departed, and went thorowe the countrey of Galatia and Phrygia by order, strengthening all the disciples.

24 Es war nun ein Jude namens Apollos, aus Alexandrien stammend, ein gelehrter und schriftkundiger Mann, nach Ephesus gekommen.

And a certaine Iewe named Apollos, borne at Alexandria, came to Ephesus, an eloquent man, and mightie in the Scriptures.

25 Er war in der Lehre des Herrn unterrichtet, redete mit glühender Begeisterung und lehrte genau über Jesus, obwohl er nur die Johannestaufe kannte.

The same was instructed in the way of the Lord, and hee spake feruently in the Spirite, and taught diligently the things of the Lord, and knew but the baptisme of Iohn onely.

26 Mit großem Freimut redete er in der Synagoge. Als Priszilla und Aquila ihn gehört hatten, nahmen sie ihn zu sich und setzten ihm die Lehre Gottes genauer auseinander.

And he began to speake boldely in the Synagogue. Whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they tooke him vnto them, and expounded vnto him the way of God more perfectly.

27 Da er nach Achaia zu reisen wünschte, ermunterten ihn die Brüder und schrieben an die dortigen Jünger, sie möchten ihn gut aufnehmen. Nach seiner Ankunft leistete er den Gläubigen vortreffliche Dienste durch seine Begabung.

And when hee was minded to goe into Achaia, the brethren exhorting him, wrote to the disciples to receiue him: and after hee was come thither, he holpe them much which had beleeued through grace.

28 Denn schlagend widerlegte er öffentlich die Juden und wies aus der Schrift nach, daß Jesus der Christus sei.

For mightily hee confuted publikely the Iewes, with great vehemencie, shewing by the Scriptures, that Iesus was that Christ.
