2 Thessalonicher 1

1 Paulus, Silvanus und Timotheus an die Gemeinde der Thessalonicher in Gott und unserem Vater und im Herrn Jesus Christus.

To the Thessalonian church in union with God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, From Paul, Silas, and Timothy.

2 Gnade werde euch zuteil und Friede von Gott, dem Vater, und dem Herrn Jesus Christus.

May God, the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ bless you and give you peace.

3 Meine Brüder! Wir fühlen uns Gott zu stetem Dank euretwegen verpflichtet. Also gehört es sich auch; denn euer Glaube nimmt stets überreichlich zu, und auch die gegenseitige Liebe ist bei euch allen übergroß.

Friends, it is our duty always to thank God about you, as is but right, considering the wonderful growth of your faith, and because, without exception, your love for one another is continually increasing.

4 Darum rühmen wir uns euer vor den Gemeinden Gottes ob eurer Geduld und eures Glaubens, trotz all der Verfolgungen und Drangsale, die ihr auszustehen habt.

So much is this the case that we ourselves speak with pride, before the churches of God, of the patience and faith which you have shown, in spite of all the persecutions and troubles that you are enduring.

5 Darin zeigt sich eben das gerechte göttliche Gericht: Ihr sollt würdig befunden werden des Reiches Gottes, für das ihr jetzt zu leiden habt.

These persecutions will vindicate the justice of God’s judgment, and will result in your being reckoned worthy of God’s kingdom, for the sake of which you are now suffering;

6 Es ist ja nur gerecht von Gott, wenn er mit Bedrängnis euren Bedrängern heimzahlt,

since God deems it just to inflict suffering on those who are now inflicting suffering on you,

7 euch Bedrängten aber mit Erquickung lohnt samt uns, wenn sich der Herr Jesus vom Himmel her mit seinen Engelscharen offenbart

and to give relief to you who are suffering, as well as to us, at the appearing of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire.

8 in Feuerflammen und Vergeltung übt an denen, die Gott nicht kennen, und an denen, die dem Evangelium unseres Herrn Jesus nicht gehorchen.

Then he will inflict punishment on those who refuse to know God, and on those who turn a deaf ear to the good news of Jesus, our Lord.

9 Mit ewigem Verderben werden sie es büßen, fern vom Angesicht des Herrn und seiner großen Herrlichkeit, (aiōnios g166)

They will pay the penalty of unutterable ruin – banished from the presence of the Lord and from the glorious manifestation of his might, (aiōnios g166)

10 wenn er an jenem Tage kommt, um sich in seinen Heiligen zu verherrlichen und wunderbar in allen seinen Gläubigen zu erscheinen; denn bei euch hat unser Zeugnis Glauben gefunden.

when he comes to be honored in his people, and to be revered in all who have learned to believe in him (for you also believed our testimony) – as he will be on that day.

11 Darum beten wir auch allzeit für euch, daß unser Gott euch der Berufung würdig mache und jede Freude am Guten in Kraft vollende wie auch das Werk des Glaubens.

With this in view, our constant prayer for you is that our God may count you worthy of the call that you have received, and by his power make perfect your delight in all goodness and the efforts that have resulted from your faith.

12 Der Name unseres Herrn Jesus wird dann in euch verherrlicht werden und ihr in ihm in Kraft der Gnade unseres Gottes und des Herrn Jesus Christus.

Then, in the loving kindness of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ, will the name of Jesus, our Lord, be honored in you, and you in him.
