1 Josias war achtzehn Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und regierte einunddreißig Jahre zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Jedida und war des Adaja Tochter aus Boskat.

Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

2 Er tat, was dem Herrn gefiel, und wandelte ganz auf seines Ahnen David Weg. Er wich nicht nach rechts noch nach links.

He did that which was right in the LORD’s eyes, and walked in all the ways of David his father, and didn’t turn away to the right hand or to the left.

3 Im achtzehnten Jahre des Königs Josias sandte der König den Schreiber Saphan, Asaljas Sohn und Mesullams Enkel, in das Haus des Herrn und sagte:

In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the LORD’s house, saying,

4 "Geh zu dem Hohenpriester Chilkia hinauf und laß ihn das Geld ganz entnehmen, das in das Haus des Herrn gebracht worden ist und das die Schwellenhüter vom Volk eingesammelt haben!

“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which is brought into the LORD’s house, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people.

5 Er gebe es den Werkführern, die am Hause des Herrn angestellt sind! Diese sollen es an die Arbeiter verausgaben, die an des Herrn Haus den Schaden am Haus ausbessern,

Let them deliver it into the hand of the workers who have the oversight of the LORD’s house; and let them give it to the workers who are in the LORD’s house, to repair the damage to the house,

6 an die Zimmerleute, Bauleute und Holzfäller und zum Ankauf von Holz und Bruchsteinen für die Ausbesserung des Hauses!

to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the house.

7 Das Geld, das man ihnen gibt, soll mit ihnen nicht verrechnet werden! Denn sie walten nach Treu und Glauben."

However, no accounting shall be asked of them for the money delivered into their hand, for they deal faithfully.”

8 Da sprach der Hohepriester Chilkia zu dem Schreiber Saphan: "Ich habe das Buch der Lehre im Hause des Herrn gefunden." Und Chilkia gab das Buch dem Saphan, und er las es.

Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in the LORD’s house.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

9 Dann kam der Schreiber Saphan zum König und berichtete dem König: "Deine Diener haben das Geld herausgenommen, das sich im Hause fand; sie gaben es den am Hause des Herrn angestellten Werkführern."

Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hands of the workmen who have the oversight of the LORD’s house.”

10 Dann meldete der Schreiber Saphan dem König: "Der Priester Chilkia hat mir ein Buch gegeben." Und Saphan las es dem König vor.

Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me.” Then Shaphan read it before the king.

11 Als der König die Worte des Buches der Lehre vernahm, zerriß er seine Gewänder.

When the king had heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes.

12 Dann befahl der König dem Priester Chilkia, dem Achikam, Saphans Sohn, dem Akbor, Mikas Sohn, dem Schreiber Saphan und dem königlichen Diener Asaja:

The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

13 "Geht und befragt den Herrn für mich, für das Volk und für den Rest Israels in Juda wegen des aufgefundenen Buches! Denn groß ist des Herrn Grimm, der gegen uns entbrannt ist, weil unsere Väter den Worten dieses Buches nicht gehorcht haben, um alles zu tun, was uns vorgeschrieben ist."

“Go enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is the LORD’s wrath that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us.”

14 Da ging der Priester Chilkia mit Achikam, Akbor, Saphan und Asaja zu der Prophetin Hulda, dem Weibe des Sallum, des Sohnes Tikwas und Enkels des Charcha, des Kleiderbewahrers. Sie wohnte in Jerusalem im zweiten Bezirk. Da redeten sie mit ihr.

So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they talked with her.

15 Und sie sprach zu ihnen: "So spricht der Herr, Israels Gott: 'Sagt jenem Mann, der euch zu mir gesandt:

She said to them, “The LORD the God of Israel says, ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,

16 So spricht der Herr: Ich bringe Unheil über diesen Ort und seine Bewohner, den ganzen Inhalt jenes Buches, das der Judakönig las.

“The LORD says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.

17 Weil sie mich verließen und anderen Göttern räucherten, um mich mit allem Machwerk ihrer Hände zu kränken, soll mein Grimm erglühen gegen diesen Ort und nicht erlöschen!'

Because they have forsaken me and have burnt incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.’”

18 Zum Judakönig, der euch gesandt, den Herrn zu fragen, sollt ihr also sprechen: 'So spricht der Herr, Israels Gott: Dies sind die Worte, die du vernommen hast!

But to the king of Judah, who sent you to enquire of the LORD, tell him, “The LORD the God of Israel says, ‘Concerning the words which you have heard,

19 Weil dein Herz weich geworden und du dich vor dem Herrn verdemütigt, als du vernahmst, was ich gegen diesen Ort und seine Einwohner geplant, daß sie zum Fluch und zum Entsetzen werden sollen, und weil du dein Gewand zerrissen und vor mir geweint, so schenke ich Gehör.' Ein Spruch des Herrn:

because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you,’ says the LORD.

20 'Darum will ich dich zu deinen Vätern versammeln. Du sollst im Frieden eingehen in dein Grab, und deine Augen sollen nicht mit ansehen all das Unheil, das ich über diesen Ort bringen werde!'" Sie berichteten es dem König.

‘Therefore behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.’”’” So they brought this message back to the king.
