2 Chronik 14

1 Abia legte sich zu seinen Vätern, und man begrub ihn in der Davidsstadt, und sein Sohn Asa ward König an seiner Statt. In seinen Tagen hatte das Land zwanzig Jahre Ruhe.

So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David, and Asa his son reigned in his stead; in his days the land was quiet ten years.

2 Asa tat, was gut und recht war in des Herrn, seines Gottes, Augen.

And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God;

3 Er entfernte die ausländischen Altäre und die Höhen, zertrümmerte die Malsteine und fällte die Ascheren.

for he took away the strange altars, and the high places, and broke down the pillars, and hewed down the Asherim;

4 Er gebot Juda, den Herrn, ihrer Väter Gott, zu suchen und die Lehre und das Gebot zu üben.

and commanded Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

5 Er entfernte aus allen Städten Judas die Höhen und die Rauchaltäre. Durch ihn hatte das Reich Ruhe.

Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun-images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.

6 Er baute auch feste Städte in Juda. Denn das Land hatte Ruhe. Niemand führte mit ihm in jenen Jahren Krieg, da der Herr ihm Ruhe verschafft hatte.

And he built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.

7 Er sprach nun zu Juda: "Wir wollen diese Städte aufbauen und mit Mauern, Türmen, Toren und Riegeln umgeben. Noch sind wir die Herren des Landes. Denn wir haben den Herrn, unseren Gott, gesucht. Wir haben ihn gesucht, und da schaffte er uns ringsum Ruhe." So bauten sie und hatten Gelingen.

For he said unto Judah: 'Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars; the land is yet before us, because we have sought the LORD our God; we have sought Him, and He hath given us rest on every side.' So they built and prospered.

8 Asa aber hatte ein Heer, das Schild und Speer trug, aus Juda 300.000 Mann und aus Benjamin 280.000 Mann, die Tartschen trugen und den Bogen spannten, lauter tapfere Krieger.

And Asa had an army that bore bucklers and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bore shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand; all these were mighty men of valour.

9 Da zog gegen ihn der Kuschite Zerach mit einem Heere von 1.000.000 Mann und dreihundert Wagen. Er kam bis Maresa.

And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an army of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and he came unto Mareshah.

10 Da zog Asa ihm entgegen. Und sie ordneten die Schlacht im Tale nördlich bei Maresa.

Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephath at Mareshah.

11 Da rief Asa zum Herrn, seinem Gott, und sprach: "Herr! Nur Du kannst helfen im Streite zwischen einem Mächtigen und einem Schwachen. Hilf uns, Herr, unser Gott! Wir stützen uns auf Dich. In Deinem Namen ziehen wir gegen diesen Haufen. Herr! Du bist unser Gott. Laß keinen Sterblichen vor Dir aufkommen!"

And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said: 'LORD, there is none beside Thee to help, between the mighty and him that hath no strength; help us, O LORD our God; for we rely on Thee, and in Thy name are we come against this multitude. Thou art the LORD our God; let not man prevail against Thee.'

12 Da schlug der Herr die Kuschiten vor Asa und Juda. Und die Kuschiten flohen.

So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

13 Asa aber und das Volk bei ihm verfolgten sie bis Gerar. Und von den Kuschiten fielen so viele, daß ihrer keiner mehr am Leben blieb. Denn sie waren vor dem Herrn und vor seinem Heere zerschmettert worden. Jene trugen sehr große Beute davon.

And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar; and there fell of the Ethiopians so that none remained alive; for they were shattered before the LORD, and before His host; and they carried away very much booty.

14 Und sie schlugen alle Städte rings um Gerar. Denn des Herrn Schrecken war über sie gekommen. So plünderten sie alle Städte. Denn viel Beute war darin.

And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for a terror from the LORD came upon them; and they spoiled all the cities; for there was much spoil in them.

15 Auch die Zelte mit den Herden hatten sie geschlagen, und so führten sie Schafe in Menge und Kamele fort. Dann kehrten sie nach Jerusalem zurück.

They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep in abundance and camels, and returned to Jerusalem.
