2 Chronik 13

1 Im achtzehnten Jahre des Königs Jeroboam ward Abia König über Juda.

In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.

2 Drei Jahre regierte er zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Mikajahu und war Uriels Tochter aus Gibea. Auch zwischen Abia und Jeroboam kam es zum Kriege.

Three years reigned he in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

3 Abia begann den Kampf mit einem Heer tapferer Krieger, mit 400.000 erlesenen Leuten. Jeroboam aber stellte sich in Schlachtordnung gegen ihn mit 800.000 erlesenen, tapferen Kriegern.

And Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, who were mighty men of valour.

4 Da stellte sich Abia oben auf den Berg Semaraim im Gebirge Ephraim und sprach: "Hört mich, Jeroboam und ihr, ganz Israel!

And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill-country of Ephraim, and said: 'Hear me, O Jeroboam and all Israel;

5 Müßt ihr nicht wissen, daß einst der Herr, Gott Israels, dem David das Königtum von Israel für alle Zeit verliehen hat, ihm und seinen Söhnen, als einen Salzbund?

ought ye not to know that the LORD, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

6 Nun trat des Nebat Sohn Jeroboam auf, der Knecht des Davidsohnes Salomo, um sich gegen seinen Herrn zu empören.

Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up, and rebelled against his lord.

7 Um ihn scharten sich nichtsnutzige und schlimme Leute, und sie empörten sich gegen Salomos Sohn Rechabeam. Rechabeam war noch jung und schwachmütig und konnte ihnen nicht standhalten.

And there were gathered unto him vain men, base fellows that strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and faint-hearted, and could not withstand them.

8 jetzt aber denkt ihr standzuhalten vor des Herren Königtum, das in der Hand der Söhne Davids liegt? Ihr seid ein großer Haufen zwar; bei euch sind auch die goldenen Kälber, die euch Jeroboam zu Göttern gemacht hat.

And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and ye are a great multitude, and there are with you the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods.

9 Habt ihr denn nicht des Herren Priester ausgetrieben, die Aaronssöhne und Leviten, und euch selber Priester gemacht, so wie die Völker in den Ländern? Wer da mit einem jungen Stier und sieben Widdern kam, sich weihen zu lassen, der ist schon ein Priester der Ungötter geworden.

Have ye not driven out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the peoples of other lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same becometh a priest of them that are no gods.

10 Der Herr ist aber unser Gott; verlassen haben wir ihn nicht. Als Priester dienen so dem Herrn die Aaronssöhne, und die Leviten sind im Amte.

But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken Him; and we have priests ministering unto the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work;

11 Sie lassen für den Herren jeden Morgen und jeden Abend Brandopfer verrauchen und duftiges Räucherwerk. Sie legen das Brot dem reinen Tische reihenweise auf und zünden auch den goldenen Leuchter mit seinen Lampen jeden Abend an. Denn wir beobachten den Dienst des Herrn, unseres Gottes. Doch ihr habt ihn verlassen.

and they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening burnt-offerings and sweet incense; the showbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening; for we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but ye have forsaken Him.

12 Mit uns ist, an der Spitze, Gott und seine Priester und die Lärmtrompeten, um gegen euch zum Angriff zu blasen. Ihr Söhne Israels! Kämpft doch nicht gegen den Herrn, eurer Väter Gott! Ihr habt kein Glück."

And, behold, God is with us at our head, and His priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD, the God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.'

13 Jeroboam aber ließ den Hinterhalt eine Wendung machen, um ihnen in den Rücken zu fallen. So standen sie Juda gegenüber. In seinem Rücken aber war der Hinterhalt.

But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them; so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them.

14 Nun wandte Juda sich um. Da hatte es den Kampf vorn und hinten. Da schrien sie zum Herrn, und die Priester stießen in die Hörner.

And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind them; and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

15 Und die Mannen Judas erhoben ein Kriegsgeschrei. Sowie Judas Mannen aber schrien, schlug Gott Jeroboam und ganz Israel vor Abia und Juda.

Then the men of Judah gave a shout; and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

16 Und die Israeliten flohen vor Juda. Und Gott gab sie in seine Hand.

And the children of Israel fled before Judah; and God delivered them into their hand.

17 Und Abia und seine Leute schlugen sie gewaltig. Von Israel fielen 500.000 erlesene Leute.

And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter; so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

18 So wurden die Israeliten damals gedemütigt. Und Judas Söhne gewannen die Oberhand; denn sie hatten sich auf den Herrn, ihrer Väter Gott, gestützt.

Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD, the God of their fathers.

19 Abia aber verfolgte Jeroboam und gewann ihm etliche Städte ab, Betel, Jesana und Ephron je mit ihren Tochterorten.

And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Bethel with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephrain with the towns thereof.

20 Jeroboam aber war nicht mehr zu Kraft gekommen in Abias Tagen. Ihn schlug der Herr, und er starb.

Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah; and the LORD smote him, and he died.

21 Abia aber wurde mächtig, und er nahm sich vierzig Weiber und zeugte zweiundzwanzig Söhne und sechzehn Töchter.

But Abijah waxed mighty, and took unto himself fourteen wives, and begot twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.

22 Abias übrige Geschichte, sein Wandel und seine Reden, sind in der Auslegung des Propheten Iddo aufgezeichnet.

And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the commentary of the prophet Iddo.
