1 Samuel 12

1 Und Samuel sprach zu ganz Israel: "Ich habe eurer Stimme in allem gefolgt, was ihr mir gesagt. Ich setzte über euch einen König.

And Samuel saith unto all Israel, 'Lo, I have hearkened to your voice, to all that ye said to me, and I cause to reign over you a king,

2 Nun führt der König euch an. Ich selbst aber bin alt und grau. Doch meine Söhne sind noch bei euch. Und ich selbst habe euch von meiner Jugend an bis auf diesen Tag angeführt.

and now, lo, the king is walking habitually before you, and I have become aged and gray-headed, and my sons, lo, they [are] with you, and I have walked habitually before you from my youth till this day.

3 Hier bin ich. Verklagt mich beim Herrn und seinem Gesalbten! Wessen Ochsen habe ich weggenommen? Wessen Esel fortgeführt? Wen habe ich gedrückt? Wem habe ich Gewalt getan? Von wem habe ich Sühnegeld empfangen, so daß ich mein Auge ihm gegenüber zudrückte? Ich will es euch erstatten."

'Lo, here [am] I; testify against me, over-against Jehovah, and over-against His anointed; whose ox have I taken, and whose ass have I taken, and whom have I oppressed; whom have I bruised, and of whose hand have I taken a ransom, and hide mine eyes with it? — and I restore to you.'

4 Sie sprachen: "Du hast uns nicht bedrückt noch Gewalt angetan und nicht das Geringste aus jemandes Hand genommen."

And they say, 'Thou hast not oppressed us, nor hast thou crushed us, nor hast thou taken from the hand of any one anything.'

5 Da sprach er zu ihnen: "Der Herr sei mein Zeuge euch gegenüber, und sein Gesalbter sei heute Zeuge, daß ihr in meiner Hand nicht das Geringste gefunden habt!" Da sprachen sie: "Jawohl!"

And he saith unto them, 'A witness [is] Jehovah against you: and a witness [is] His anointed this day, that ye have not found anything in my hand;' and they say, 'A witness.'

6 Da sprach Samuel zum Volk: "Der Herr hat Moses und Aaron eingesetzt und eure Väter aus Ägypterland heraufgeführt.

And Samuel saith unto the people, 'Jehovah — He who made Moses and Aaron, and who brought up your fathers out of the land of Egypt!

7 Nun kommt her, daß ich vor dem Herrn mit euch rechte über alle Wohltaten des Herrn, die er an euch und euren Vätern getan!

and, now, station yourselves, and I judge you before Jehovah, with all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which He did with you, and with your fathers.

8 Als Jakob nach Ägypten gekommen war, da schrien eure Väter zum Herrn. Und der Herr sandte Moses und Aaron. Und diese führten eure Väter aus Ägypten und gaben ihnen an dieser Stätte Siedlungen.

'When Jacob hath come in to Egypt, and your fathers cry unto Jehovah, then Jehovah sendeth Moses and Aaron, and they bring out your fathers from Egypt, and cause them to dwell in this place,

9 Aber sie vergaßen den Herrn, ihren Gott. Da verkaufte er sie in die Hand Siseras, des Feldherrn von Chasor, dann in die der Philister und in die des Moabkönigs, und sie bekriegten sie.

and they forget Jehovah their God, and He selleth them into the hand of Sisera, head of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fight against them,

10 Da schrien sie zum Herrn und sprachen: 'Wir haben gesündigt, daß wir den Herrn verlassen haben und dann den Baalen und Astarten dienten. Nun aber rette uns aus unserer Feinde Hand! Dann wollen wir Dir dienen.'

and they cry unto Jehovah, and say, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and serve the Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and now, deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we serve Thee.

11 Da erweckte der Herr Jerubbaal, und zwar den Richter, Jephte und Samuel und rettete euch aus eurer Feinde Hand ringsum, so daß ihr sicher wohntet.

'And Jehovah sendeth Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivereth you out of the hand of your enemies round about, and ye dwell confidently.

12 Als ihr aber sahet, daß der Ammoniterkönig Nachas gegen euch heranrückte, spracht ihr zu mir: 'Nein! Ein König herrsche über uns!' Und doch ist der Herr, euer Gott, euer König.

'And ye see that Nahash king of the Bene-Ammon hath come against you, and ye say to me, Nay, but a king doth reign over us; and Jehovah your God [is] your king!

13 Nun denn! Da ist der König, den ihr erwählt und den ihr gefordert habt. Seht! Der Herr hat euch einen König gegeben.

And, now, lo, the king whom ye have chosen — whom ye have asked! and lo, Jehovah hath placed over you a king.

14 Wenn ihr den Herrn fürchtet, dann dienet ihm und hört seine Stimme. Dem Mund des Herrn dürft ihr nicht widersprechen. Ihr selbst und der König, der über euch herrscht, seid dem Herrn, eurem Gott, folgsam!

'If ye fear Jehovah, and have served Him, and hearkened to His voice, then ye do not provoke the mouth of Jehovah, and ye have been — both ye and the king who hath reigned over you — after Jehovah your God.

15 Hört ihr aber nicht auf des Herrn Stimme und widersprecht ihr dem Munde des Herrn, dann ist des Herrn Hand wider euch wie gegen eure Väter.

'And if ye do not hearken to the voice of Jehovah — then ye have provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and the hand of Jehovah hath been against you, and against your fathers.

16 Kommt jetzt her und seht das große Werk, das der Herr vor euch tut!

'Also now, station yourselves and see this great thing which Jehovah is doing before your eyes;

17 Ist nicht jetzt die Weizenernte? Ich rufe nun zum Herrn, daß er Gewitter und Regen sende. Dann erkennt ihr und seht, daß eure Bosheit groß ist, die ihr vor dem Herrn getan, indem ihr für euch einen König gefordert habt."

is it not wheat-harvest to-day? I call unto Jehovah, and He doth give voices and rain; and know ye and see that your evil is great which ye have done in the eyes of Jehovah, to ask for you a king.'

18 Dann rief Samuel zum Herrn, und der Herr sandte an jenem Tag Gewitter und Regen. So kam das Volk in große Angst vor dem Herrn und Samuel.

And Samuel calleth unto Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth voices and rain, on that day, and all the people greatly fear Jehovah and Samuel;

19 Und das ganze Volk sprach zu Samuel: "Bete zum Herrn, deinem Gott, für deine Knechte, daß wir nicht sterben! Denn wir haben zu all unseren Sünden das Unrecht hinzugefügt, für uns einen König zu fordern."

and all the people say unto Samuel, 'Pray for thy servants unto Jehovah thy God, and we do not die, for we have added to all our sins evil to ask for us a king.'

20 Da sprach Samuel zum Volke: "Seid ohne Furcht! Ihr habt zwar all dies Böse getan. Aber laßt wenigstens nicht vom Herrn, sondern dient dem Herrn aus eurem ganzen Herzen!

And Samuel saith unto the people, 'Fear not; ye have done all this evil; only, turn not aside from after Jehovah — and ye have served Jehovah with all your heart,

21 Ihr dürft keinesfalls zu den Götzen abfallen, die nichts nützen und nicht retten, weil sie Nichtse sind!

and ye do not turn aside after the vain things which do not profit nor deliver, for they [are] vain,

22 Denn der Herr verstößt um seines großen Namens willen nicht sein Volk, hat es doch dem Herrn gefallen, euch zum Volk für sich zu machen.

for Jehovah doth not leave His people, on account of His great name; for Jehovah hath been pleased to make you to Him for a people.

23 Aber dessen ungeachtet sei es fern von mir, daß ich mich am Herrn versündigte und abließe, für euch zu beten! Vielmehr weise ich euch den guten und geraden Weg.

'I, also, far be it from me to sin against Jehovah, by ceasing to pray for you, and I have directed you in the good and upright way;

24 Nur fürchtet den Herrn und dient ihm getreulich aus ganzem Herzen! Denn seht: Was hat er Großes an euch getan!

only, fear ye Jehovah, and ye have served Him in truth with all your heart, for see that which He hath made great with you;

25 Wenn ihr aber böse handelt, dann werdet ihr samt eurem König weggerafft werden."

and if ye really do evil, both ye and your king are consumed.'
