1 Acht Jahre war Josia alt, als er König wurde, und er regierte einunddreißig Jahre zu Jerusalem; und der Name seiner Mutter war Jedida, die Tochter Adajas, von Bozkath.

Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

2 Und er tat, was recht war in den Augen Jehovas; und er wandelte auf allen Wegen seines Vaters David und wich nicht zur Rechten noch zur Linken.

He did that which was right in the LORD’s eyes, and walked in all the ways of David his father, and didn’t turn away to the right hand or to the left.

3 Und es geschah im achtzehnten Jahre des Königs Josia, da sandte der König Schaphan, den Sohn Azaljas, des Sohnes Meschullams, den Schreiber, in das Haus Jehovas und sprach:

In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the LORD’s house, saying,

4 Gehe hinauf zu Hilkija, dem Hohenpriester, daß er das Geld zusammennehme, welches in das Haus Jehovas gebracht worden ist, welches die Hüter der Schwelle von dem Volke eingesammelt haben,

“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which is brought into the LORD’s house, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people.

5 damit man es in die Hand derer gebe, welche das Werk betreiben, die am Hause Jehovas bestellt sind; und sie sollen es denen geben, die das Werk tun im Hause Jehovas, um das Baufällige des Hauses auszubessern:

Let them deliver it into the hand of the workers who have the oversight of the LORD’s house; and let them give it to the workers who are in the LORD’s house, to repair the damage to the house,

6 den Zimmerleuten und den Bauleuten und den Maurern, und um Holz zu kaufen und behauene Steine, um das Haus auszubessern.

to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the house.

7 Doch soll das Geld, das in ihre Hand gegeben wird, nicht mit ihnen verrechnet werden; denn sie handeln getreulich.

However, no accounting shall be asked of them for the money delivered into their hand, for they deal faithfully.”

8 Und der Hohepriester Hilkija sprach zu Schaphan, dem Schreiber: Ich habe das Buch des Gesetzes im Hause Jehovas gefunden. Und Hilkia gab das Buch dem Schaphan, und er laß es.

Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in the LORD’s house.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

9 Und Schaphan, der Schreiber, kam zum König und brachte dem König Nachricht und sprach: Deine Knechte haben das Geld, das sich im Hause vorfand, ausgeschüttet und es in die Hand derer gegeben, welche das Werk betreiben, die am Hause Jehovas bestellt sind.

Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hands of the workmen who have the oversight of the LORD’s house.”

10 Und Schaphan, der Schreiber, berichtete dem König und sprach: Der Priester Hilkia hat mir ein Buch gegeben. Und Schaphan las es vor dem König.

Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me.” Then Shaphan read it before the king.

11 Und es geschah, als der König die Worte des Buches des Gesetzes hörte, da zerriß er seine Kleider.

When the king had heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes.

12 Und der König gebot Hilkija, dem Priester, und Achikam, dem Sohne Schaphans, und Akbor, dem Sohne Michajas, und Schaphan, dem Schreiber, und Asaja, dem Knechte des Königs, und sprach:

The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

13 Gehet hin, befraget Jehova für mich und für das Volk und für ganz Juda wegen der Worte dieses gefundenen Buches. Denn groß ist der Grimm Jehovas, der wider uns entzündet ist, darum daß unsere Väter auf die Worte dieses Buches nicht gehört haben, um nach allem zu tun, was unsertwegen geschrieben ist.

“Go enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is the LORD’s wrath that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us.”

14 Da gingen der Priester Hilkija und Achikam und Akbor und Schaphan und Asaja zu der Prophetin Hulda, dem Weibe Schallums, des Sohnes Tikwas, des Sohnes Harchas', des Hüters der Kleider; sie wohnte aber zu Jerusalem im zweiten Stadtteile; und sie redeten zu ihr.

So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they talked with her.

15 Und sie sprach zu ihnen: So spricht Jehova, der Gott Israels: Saget dem Manne, der euch zu mir gesandt hat:

She said to them, “The LORD the God of Israel says, ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,

16 So spricht Jehova: Siehe, ich will Unglück bringen über diesen Ort und über seine Bewohner: alle Worte des Buches, welches der König von Juda gelesen hat.

“The LORD says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.

17 Darum daß sie mich verlassen und anderen Göttern geräuchert haben, um mich zu reizen mit all dem Machwerk ihrer Hände, so wird mein Grimm sich entzünden wider diesen Ort und wird nicht erlöschen.

Because they have forsaken me and have burnt incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.’”

18 Zu dem König von Juda aber, der euch gesandt hat, um Jehova zu befragen, zu ihm sollt ihr also sprechen: So spricht Jehova, der Gott Israels: Die Worte anlangend, die du gehört hast,

But to the king of Judah, who sent you to enquire of the LORD, tell him, “The LORD the God of Israel says, ‘Concerning the words which you have heard,

19 weil dein Herz weich geworden ist, und du dich vor Jehova gedemütigt hast, als du hörtest, was ich über diesen Ort und über seine Bewohner geredet habe, daß sie zur Verwüstung und zum Fluche werden sollen, und du deine Kleider zerrissen und vor mir geweint hast, so habe ich es auch gehört, spricht Jehova.

because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you,’ says the LORD.

20 Darum, siehe, werde ich dich zu deinen Vätern versammeln; und du wirst zu deinen Gräbern versammelt werden in Frieden, und deine Augen sollen all das Unglück nicht ansehen, das ich über diesen Ort bringen werde. Und sie brachten dem König Antwort.

‘Therefore behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.’”’” So they brought this message back to the king.
