Psalm 8
1 [Dem Vorsänger, auf der Gittith. Ein Psalm von David.] Jehova, unser Herr, wie herrlich ist dein Name auf der ganzen Erde, der du deine Majestät gestellt hast über die Himmel! [And. üb.: mit deiner Majestät die Himmel angetan hast]
For the chief musician; set to the gittith style. A psalm of David. Yahweh our Lord, how magnificent is your name in all the earth, you who reveal your glory in the heavens above.
2 Aus dem Munde der Kinder und Säuglinge hast du Macht [And.: Lob] gegründet um deiner Bedränger willen, um zum Schweigen zu bringen den Feind und den Rachgierigen.
Out of the mouth of babies and infants you have established praise because of your enemies, so that you might silence both the enemy and the avenger.
3 Wenn ich anschaue deinen Himmel, deiner Finger Werk, den Mond und die Sterne, die du bereitet hast:
When I look up at your heavens, which your fingers have made, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 Was ist der Mensch, daß du sein gedenkst, und des Menschen Sohn, daß du auf ihn achthast? [O. dich fürsorglich seiner annimmst]
Of what importance is the human race that you notice them, or mankind that you pay attention to them?
5 Denn ein wenig [O. eine kleine Zeit] hast du ihn unter die Engel [Hebr. Elohim] erniedrigt; [Eig. geringer gemacht als] und mit Herrlichkeit und Pracht hast du ihn gekrönt.
Yet you have made them only a little lower than the heavenly beings and have crowned them with glory and honor.
6 Du hast ihn zum Herrscher gemacht über die Werke deiner Hände; alles hast du unter seine Füße gestellt:
You make him to rule over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet:
7 Schafe und Rinder allesamt und auch die Tiere des Feldes,
all sheep and oxen, and even the animals of the field,
8 das Gevögel des Himmels und die Fische des Meeres, was die Pfade der Meere durchwandert.
the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, everything that passes through the currents of the seas.
9 Jehova, unser Herr, wie herrlich ist dein Name auf der ganzen Erde!
Yahweh our Lord, how magnificent is your name in all the earth!
