1 Mose 24
1 Und Abraham war alt, wohlbetagt, und Jehova hatte Abraham gesegnet in allem.
Abraham was olde and stryken in dayes and the LORde had blessed him in all thinges.
2 Und Abraham sprach zu seinem Knechte, dem ältesten seines Hauses, der alles verwaltete, was er hatte: Lege doch deine Hand unter meine Hüfte, [O. Lende]
And he sayde vnto his eldest servaunte of his house which had the rule over all that he had: Put thy hande vnder my thye that
3 und ich werde dich schwören lassen bei Jehova, dem Gott des Himmels und dem Gott der Erde, daß du meinem Sohne nicht ein Weib nehmen wirst von den Töchtern der Kanaaniter, in deren Mitte ich wohne;
I maye make the swere by the LORde that is God of heauen and God of the erth that thou shalt not take a wyfe vnto my sonne of the doughters of the canaanytes amonge which I dwell.
4 sondern in mein Land und zu meiner Verwandtschaft sollst du gehen und ein Weib nehmen meinem Sohne, dem Isaak.
But shalt goo vnto my contre and to my kynred and there take a wyfe vnto my sonne Isaac.
5 Und der Knecht sprach zu ihm: Vielleicht wird das Weib mir nicht in dieses Land folgen wollen; soll ich dann deinen Sohn in das Land zurückbringen, aus welchem du weggezogen bist?
Tha sayde the seruaunte vnto him: what ad yf the woma wyll not agree to come with me vnto this lade shall I brynge thy sonne agayne vnto the lande which thou camest out of:
6 Da sprach Abraham zu ihm: Hüte dich, daß du meinen Sohn nicht dorthin zurückbringest!
And Abraha sayde vnto him: bewarre of that that thou brige not my sonne thither.
7 Jehova, der Gott des Himmels, der mich aus dem Hause meines Vaters und aus dem Lande meiner Verwandtschaft [O. Geburt; wie Kap. 11,26] genommen und der zu mir geredet und der mir also geschworen hat: Deinem Samen will ich dieses Land geben! der wird seinen Engel vor dir hersenden, daß du meinem Sohne von dannen ein Weib nehmest.
The LORde God of heauen which toke me from my fathers house and from the lande where I was borne and which spake vnto me and sware vnto me saynge: vnto thy seed wyll I geue this lande he shall sende his angell before the yt thou mayst take a wife vnto my sonne from thence.
8 Wenn aber das Weib dir nicht folgen will, so bist du dieses meines Eides ledig; nur sollst du meinen Sohn nicht dorthin zurückbringen.
Neuerthelesse yf the woma will not agree to come with the than shalt thou be with out daunger of this ooth. But aboue all thinge brynge not my sonne thyther agayne.
9 Und der Knecht legte seine Hand unter die Hüfte Abrahams, seines Herrn, und schwur ihm über dieser Sache.
And the seruaunte put his hand vnder the thye of Abraham and sware to him as concernynge that matter.
10 Und der Knecht nahm zehn Kamele von den Kamelen seines Herrn, und zog hin; und allerlei Gut seines Herrn hatte er bei sich. Und er machte sich auf und zog nach Mesopotamien, [H. Aram der zwei Flüsse] nach der Stadt Nahors.
And the seruaunte toke. x. camels of the camels of his master and departed and had of all maner goodes of his master with him and stode vp and went to Mesopotamia vnto the cytie of Nahor.
11 Und er ließ die Kamele draußen vor der Stadt niederknien beim Wasserbrunnen, zur Abendzeit, zur Zeit, da die Schöpferinnen herauskommen.
And made his camels to lye doune with out the cytie by a wels syde of water at euen: aboute the tyme that women come out to drawe water
12 Und er sprach: Jehova, Gott meines Herrn Abraham, laß es mir doch heute begegnen, und erweise Güte an meinem Herrn Abraham!
and he sayde. LORde God of my master Abraha sende me good spede this daye and shewe mercy vnto my master Abraham.
13 Siehe, ich stehe bei der Wasserquelle, und die Töchter der Leute der Stadt kommen heraus, um Wasser zu schöpfen;
Lo I stonde here by the well of water and the doughters of the men of this citie will come out to drawe water:
14 möge es nun geschehen, daß das Mädchen, zu dem ich sagen werde: Neige doch deinen Krug, daß ich trinke und welches sagen wird: Trinke, und auch deine Kamele will ich tränken, diejenige sei, welche du für deinen Knecht, für Isaak, bestimmt hast; und daran werde ich erkennen, daß du Güte an meinem Herrn erwiesen hast.
Now the damsell to whome I saye stoupe doune thy pytcher and let me drynke. Yf she saye drynke and I will geue thy camels drynke also yt same is she that thou hast ordened for they servaunte Isaac: yee and therby shall I knowe that thou hast shewed mercy on my master.
15 Und es geschah, er hatte noch nicht ausgeredet, siehe, da kam Rebekka [H. Rivka: die Fesselnde, Anziehende] heraus, die dem Bethuel geboren worden, dem Sohne der Milka, des Weibes Nahors, des Bruders Abrahams, mit ihrem Kruge auf ihrer Schulter.
And it came to passe yer he had leeft spakynge that Rebecca came out the doughter of Bethuell sonne to Melcha the wife of Nahor Abrahams brother and hir pytcher apon hir shulder:
16 Und das Mädchen war sehr schön von Ansehen, eine Jungfrau, und kein Mann hatte sie erkannt; und sie stieg zur Quelle hinab und füllte ihren Krug und stieg wieder herauf.
The damsell was very fayre to loke apon and yet a mayde and vnknowen of man. And she went doune to the well and fylled hyr pytcher and came vp agayne.
17 Und der Knecht lief ihr entgegen und sprach: Laß mich doch ein wenig Wasser aus deinem Kruge schlürfen.
Then the seruaunte ranne vnto her and sayde: let me syppe a litle water of thi pither.
18 Und sie sprach: Trinke, mein Herr. Und eilends ließ sie ihren Krug auf ihre Hand hernieder und gab ihm zu trinken.
And she sayde: drynke my lorde. And she hasted and late downe her pytcher apon hyr arme and gaue him drinke.
19 Und als sie ihm genug zu trinken gegeben hatte, sprach sie: Ich will auch für deine Kamele schöpfen, bis sie genug getrunken haben.
And whe she had geven hym drynke she sayde: I will drawe water for thy camels also vntill they haue dronke ynough.
20 Und sie eilte und goß ihren Krug aus in die Tränke und lief abermals zum Brunnen, um zu schöpfen; und sie schöpfte für alle seine Kamele.
And she poured out hyr pitcher in to the trough hastely and ranne agayne vnto the well to fett water: and drewe for all his camels.
21 Und der Mann sah ihr staunend zu und schwieg, um zu erkennen, ob Jehova zu seiner Reise Glück gegeben habe oder nicht.
And the felowe wondred at her. But helde his peace to wete whether the LORde had made his iourney prosperous or not.
22 Und es geschah, als die Kamele genug getrunken hatten, da nahm der Mann einen goldenen Ring, [Eig. Nasenring; siehe auch v 47] ein halber Sekel sein Gewicht, und zwei Spangen für ihre Arme, [Eig. Hände, d. i. Handgelenke] zehn Sekel Gold ihr Gewicht;
And as the camels had lefte drynckynge he toke an earynge of halfe a sicle weght and. ij golden bracelettes for hyr hades of. x. sycles weyght of gold
23 und er sprach: Wessen Tochter bist du? Sage mirs doch an. Ist im Hause deines Vaters Raum für uns zu herbergen?
and sayde vnto her: whose doughter art thou? tell me: ys there rowme in thy fathers house for vs to lodge in?
24 Und sie sprach zu ihm: Ich bin die Tochter Bethuels, des Sohnes der Milka, den sie dem Nahor geboren hat.
And she sayde vnto him: I am the doughter of Bethuell the sonne of Milcha which she bare vnto Nahor:
25 Und sie sprach zu ihm: Sowohl Stroh als auch Futter ist bei uns in Menge, auch Raum zu herbergen.
and sayde moreouer vnto him: we haue litter and prauonder ynough and also rowme to lodge in.
26 Da verneigte sich der Mann und warf sich nieder vor Jehova
And the man bowed himselfe and worshipped the LORde
27 und sprach: Gepriesen [S. die Anmerkung zu Kap. 9,26] sei Jehova, der Gott meines Herrn Abraham, der von seiner Güte und seiner Wahrheit nicht abgelassen hat gegen meinen Herrn! Mich hat Jehova geleitet auf den Weg [And. üb.: Während ich auf dem Weg war, hat Jehova mich geleitet zum] zum Hause der Brüder meines Herrn.
and sayde: blessed be the LORde God of my master Abraham which ceasseth not to deale mercyfully and truly with my master And hath brought me the waye to my masters brothers house.
28 Und das Mädchen lief und berichtete diese Dinge dem Hause ihrer Mutter.
And the damsell ranne and tolde them of her mothers house these thinges.
29 Und Rebekka hatte einen Bruder, sein Name war Laban; und Laban lief zu dem Manne hinaus zur Quelle.
And Rebecca had a brother called Laban. And Laban ranne out vnto the man to the well:
30 Und es geschah, als er den Ring sah und die Spangen an den Armen seiner Schwester, und als er die Worte seiner Schwester Rebekka hörte, welche sagte: Also hat der Mann zu mir geredet, da kam er zu dem Manne; und siehe, er stand bei den Kamelen, an der Quelle.
for as soone as he had sene the earynges and the bracelettes apon his sisters handes ad herde the wordes of Rebecca his sister saynge thus sayde the man vnto me than he went out vnto the man. And loo he stode yet with the camels by the well syde.
31 Und er sprach: Komm herein, Gesegneter Jehovas! Warum stehst du draußen? Denn ich habe das Haus aufgeräumt, und Raum ist für die Kamele.
And Laban sayde: come in thou blessed of the LORde. Wherfore stondest thou without? I haue dressed the house and made rowme for the camels.
32 Und der Mann kam in das Haus; und man sattelte die Kamele ab und gab den Kamelen Stroh und Futter, und Wasser, um seine Füße zu waschen und die Füße der Männer, die bei ihm waren.
And than the ma came in to the house. And he vnbrydeld the camels: and brought litter and prauonder for the camels and water to weshe his fete and their fete that were with him
33 Und es wurde ihm zu essen vorgesetzt; aber er sprach: Ich will nicht essen, bis ich meine Worte geredet habe. Und er sprach: Rede!
and there was meate sett before him to eate. But he sayde: I will not eate vntill I haue sayde myne earede: And he sayde saye on.
34 Da sprach er: Ich bin Abrahams Knecht;
And he sayde: I am Abrahas servaunte
35 und Jehova hat meinen Herrn sehr gesegnet, so daß er groß geworden ist; und er hat ihm Kleinvieh gegeben und Rinder, und Silber und Gold, und Knechte und Mägde, und Kamele und Esel.
and the LORDE hath blessed my master out of measure that he is become greate and hath geven him shepe oxen syluer and golde menservauntes maydeservauntes camels ad asses.
36 Und Sara, das Weib meines Herrn, hat meinem Herrn einen Sohn geboren, nachdem sie alt geworden war; und er hat ihm alles gegeben, was er hat.
And Sara my masters wyfe bare him a sonne whe she was olde: and vnto him hath he geven all that he hath.
37 Und mein Herr hat mich schwören lassen und gesagt: Du sollst meinem Sohne nicht ein Weib nehmen von den Töchtern der Kanaaniter, in deren Lande ich wohne;
And my master made me swere saynge: Thou shalt not take a wyfe to my sonne amonge the doughters of the cananytes in whose lade I dwell.
38 sondern zu dem Hause meines Vaters und zu meinem Geschlecht sollst du gehen und meinem Sohne ein Weib nehmen!
But thou shalt goo vnto my fathers house and to my kynred and there take a wyfe vnto my sonne.
39 Und ich sprach zu meinem Herrn: Vielleicht wird das Weib mir nicht folgen.
And I sayde vnto my master. What yf the wyfe will not folowe me?
40 Da sprach er zu mir: Jehova, vor dessen Angesicht ich gewandelt habe, wird seinen Engel mit dir senden und Glück zu deiner Reise geben, daß du meinem Sohne ein Weib nehmest aus meinem Geschlecht und aus dem Hause meines Vaters.
And he sayde vnto me: The LORde before whome I walke wyll sende his angell with the and prosper thy iourney that thou shalt take a wyfe for my sonne of my kynred and of my fathers house.
41 Wenn du zu meinem Geschlecht kommst, dann sollst du meines Eides ledig sein; und wenn sie sie dir nicht geben, so bist du meines Eides ledig.
But and yf (when thou comest vnto my kynred) they will not geue the one tha shalt thou bere no perell of myne oothe.
42 So kam ich heute zu der Quelle und sprach: Jehova, Gott meines Herrn Abraham, wenn du doch Glück geben wolltest zu meinem Wege, auf dem ich gehe!
And I came this daye vnto the well and sayed: O LORde the God of my master Abraha yf it be so that thou makest my iourney which I go prosperous:
43 Siehe, ich stehe bei der Wasserquelle; möge es nun geschehen, daß die Jungfrau, die herauskommt, um zu schöpfen, und zu der ich sagen werde: Gib mir doch ein wenig Wasser aus deinem Kruge zu trinken! -
beholde I stode by this well of water And when a virgyn cometh forth to drawe water and I saye to her: geue me a litle water of thi pitcher to drynke
44 und welche zu mir sagen wird: Trinke du, und auch für deine Kamele will ich schöpfen, daß sie das Weib sei, welches Jehova für den Sohn meines Herrn bestimmt hat.
and she saye agayne to me: dryncke thou and I will also drawe water for thy camels: that same is the wife whom the LORde hath prepared for my masters sonne.
45 Ich hatte in meinem Herzen noch nicht ausgeredet, siehe, da kam Rebekka heraus mit ihrem Kruge auf ihrer Schulter; und sie stieg zur Quelle hinab und schöpfte. Da sprach ich zu ihr: Gib mir doch zu trinken!
And before I had made an ende of speakynge in myne harte: beholde Rebecca came forth and hir pitcher on hir shulder and she went doune vnto the well and drewe. And I sayde vnto her geue me drynke.
46 Und eilends ließ sie ihren Krug von ihrer Schulter [W. von auf sich] hernieder und sprach: Trinke, und auch deine Kamele will ich tränken. Und ich trank, und sie tränkte auch die Kamele.
And she made hast and toke doune hir pitcher from of hir ad sayd: drinke and I will geue thy camels drynke also. And I dranke and she gaue the camels drynke also.
47 Und ich fragte sie und sprach: Wessen Tochter bist du? Und sie sprach: Die Tochter Bethuels, des Sohnes Nahors, den Milka ihm geboren hat. Und ich legte den Ring an ihre Nase und die Spangen an ihre Arme;
And I asked her saynge: whose doughter art thou? And she answered: the doughter of Bathuell Nahors sonne whome Milca bare vnto him. And I put the earynge vpon hir face and the bracelettes apon hir hondes.
48 und ich verneigte mich und warf mich nieder vor Jehova; und ich pries Jehova, den Gott meines Herrn Abraham, der mich den rechten Weg geleitet hat, um die Tochter des Bruders meines Herrn für seinen Sohn zu nehmen.
And I bowed my selfe and worshepped the LORde and blessed the LORde God of my master Abraha which had brought me the right waye to take my masters brothers doughter vnto his sonne.
49 Und nun, wenn ihr Güte und Treue an meinem Herrn erweisen wollt, so tut es mir kund; und wenn nicht, so tut es mir kund, und ich werde mich zur Rechten oder zur Linken wenden.
Now therfore yf ye will deall mercyfully and truly with my master tell me. And yf no tell me also: that I maye turne me to the right hande or to the left.
50 Da antworteten Laban und Bethuel und sprachen: Von Jehova ist die Sache ausgegangen; wir können dir nichts sagen, weder Böses noch Gutes.
Than answered Laban and Bathuel saynge: The thinge is proceded even out of the lorde we can not therfore saye vnto the ether good or bad:
51 Siehe, Rebekka ist vor dir: nimm sie und ziehe hin; und sie sei das Weib des Sohnes deines Herrn, wie Jehova geredet hat.
Beholde Rebecca before thy face take her and goo and let her be thy masters sonnes wife euen as the LORde hath sayde.
52 Und es geschah, als Abrahams Knecht ihre Worte hörte, da beugte er sich zur Erde nieder vor Jehova.
And whe Abrahams servaunte herde their wordes he bowed him selfe vnto the LORde flatt vpon the erth.
53 Und der Knecht zog hervor silbernes Geschmeide und goldenes Geschmeide und Kleider und gab sie der Rebekka; und Kostbarkeiten gab er ihrem Bruder und ihrer Mutter.
And the servaunte toke forth iewells of syluer and iewelles of gold and rayment and gaue them to Rebecca: But vnto hir brother and to hir mother he gaue spyces.
54 Und sie aßen und tranken, er und die Männer, die bei ihm waren, und übernachteten. Und des Morgens standen sie auf, und er sprach: Entlasset mich zu meinem Herrn!
And then they ate and dranke both he and the men that were with him and taried all nyghte and rose vp in the mornynge. And he sayde: let me departe vnto my master.
55 Da sprachen ihr Bruder und ihre Mutter: Laß das Mädchen einige Tage oder zehn bei uns bleiben, danach magst du [O. mag sie] ziehen.
But hir brother and hir mother sayde: let the damsell abyde with vs a while ad it be but even. x. dayes and than goo thy wayes.
56 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Haltet mich nicht auf, da Jehova Glück gegeben hat zu meiner Reise; entlasset mich, daß ich zu meinem Herrn ziehe!
And he sayde vnto them hinder me not: for the lorde hath prospered my iourney. Sende me awaye yt I maye goo vnto my master.
57 Und sie sprachen: Laßt uns das Mädchen rufen und ihren Mund befragen.
And they sayde: let vs call the damsell and witt what she sayth to the matter.
58 Und sie riefen Rebekka und sprachen zu ihr: Willst du mit diesem Manne gehen? Und sie antwortete: Ich will gehen.
And they called forth Rebecca ad sayde vnto her: wilt thou goo with this ma? And she sayde: Yee.
59 Und sie entließen ihre Schwester Rebekka mit ihrer Amme und den Knecht Abrahams und seine Männer.
Than they broughte Rebecca their sister on the waye and her norse and Abrahas servaunte and the men that were wyth him.
60 Und sie segneten Rebekka und sprachen zu ihr: Du, unsere Schwester, werde zu tausendmal Zehntausenden, und dein Same besitze das Tor seiner Feinde! [W. Hasser]
And they blessed Rebecca and sayde vnto her: Thou art oure sister growe in to thousande thousandes and thy seed possesse ye gates of their emnies.
61 Und Rebekka machte sich auf mit ihren Mägden, und sie bestiegen die Kamele und folgten dem Manne; und der Knecht nahm Rebekka und zog hin.
And Rebecca arose and hir damsels and satt the vp apo the camels and went their waye after the man. And ye servaunte toke Rebecca and went his waye
62 Isaak aber war von einem Gange nach dem Brunnen Lachai-Roi [Siehe die Anmerkung zu Kap. 16,14] gekommen; er wohnte nämlich im Lande des Südens.
And Isaac was a comige from the well of ye lyvynge and seynge for he dwelt in the south cotre
63 Und Isaak ging aus, um auf dem Felde zu sinnen beim Anbruch des Abends; und er hob seine Augen auf und sah, und siehe, Kamele kamen.
and was gone out to walke in his meditatios before ye eue tyde. And he lyfte vp his eyes and loked and beholde ye camels were cominge.
64 Und Rebekka hob ihre Augen auf und sah Isaak; und sie warf sich vom Kamele herab und sprach zu dem Knechte:
And Rebecca lyfte vp hir eyes and whe she sawe Isaac she lyghted of the camel
65 Wer ist der Mann, der uns da auf dem Felde entgegenwandelt? Und der Knecht sprach: Das ist mein Herr. Da nahm sie den Schleier [ein Überwurf, den man über den Kopf zog] und verhüllte sich.
ad sayde vnto ye servaunte: what ma is this yt cometh agenst vs in the feld? And the servaute sayde: it is my master. And then she toke hir mantell ad put it aboute her.
66 Und der Knecht erzählte Isaak all die Dinge, die er ausgerichtet hatte.
And the servaute tolde Isaac all that he had done.
67 Und Isaak führte sie in das Zelt seiner Mutter Sara, und er nahm Rebekka, und sie wurde sein Weib, und er hatte sie lieb. Und Isaak tröstete sich nach dem Tode seiner Mutter.
The Isaac broughte her in to his mother Saras tente ad toke Rebecca and she became his wife and he loved her: and so was Isaac coforted over his mother.
