Apocalypse 18
1 Après cela je vis un autre ange qui descendait du ciel, ayant une grande puissance; et la terre fut illuminée de sa gloire.
And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2 Et il cria avec force, disant: Elle est tombée, la grande Babylone, et elle est devenue une demeure de démons, et une retraite de tout esprit impur, de tout oiseau immonde et qui inspire de l’horreur;
And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 Parce que toutes les nations ont bu du vin de la colère de sa prostitution; et les rois de la terre se sont corrompus avec elle, et les marchands de la terre se sont enrichis de l’excès de son luxe.
For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4 J’entendis une autre voix du ciel, qui dit: Sortez de Babylone, mon peuple, de peur que vous n’ayez part à ses péchés, et que vous ne receviez de ses plaies;
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 Parce que ses péchés sont parvenus jusqu’au ciel, et que Dieu s’est souvenu de ses iniquités.
For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
6 Rendez-lui comme elle-même vous a rendu, rendez-lui au double selon ses œuvres; dans la coupe où elle vous a fait boire, faites-la boire deux fois autant.
Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
7 Autant elle s’est glorifiée et a été dans les délices, autant multipliez ses tourments et son deuil; parce qu’elle dit en son cœur: Je suis reine, je ne suis point veuve, et je ne serai point dans le deuil.
How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
8 C’est pourquoi en un seul jour viendront ses plaies, et la mort, et le deuil, et la famine; et elle sera brûlée par le feu, parce qu’il est puissant le Dieu qui la jugera.
Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong [is] the Lord God who judgeth her.
9 Et ils pleureront sur elle, et ils se frapperont la poitrine, les rois de la terre qui se sont corrompus avec elle, et qui ont vécu avec elle dans les délices, quand ils verront la fumée de son embrasement;
And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
10 Se tenant au loin, dans la crainte de ses tourments, disant: Malheur! malheur! Babylone, cette grande cité, cette cité puissante! En une heure est venu ton jugement.
Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
11 Et les marchands de la terre pleureront et gémiront sur elle, parce que personne n’achètera plus leurs marchandises;
And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
12 Ces marchandises d’or et d’argent, de pierreries, de perles, de lin, de pourpre, de soie, d’écarlate (et tous les bois odorants, tous les meubles d’ivoire, et tous les vases de pierres précieuses, d’airain, de fer et de marbre,
The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
13 Et le cinnamome), de senteurs, de parfums, d’encens, de vin, d’huile, de fleur de farine, de blé, de bêtes de charge, de brebis, de chevaux, de chariots, d’esclaves et d’âmes d’hommes.
And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
14 Quant aux fruits si chers à ton âme, ils se sont éloignés de toi; tout ce qu’il y a d’exquis et de splendide est perdu pour toi, et on ne le trouvera plus.
And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
15 Ceux qui lui vendaient ces marchandises, et qui se sont enrichis, se tiendront éloignés d’elle dans la crainte de ses tourments, pleurant, gémissant,
The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
16 Et disant: Malheur! malheur! cette grande cité, qui était vêtue de fin lin, de pourpre et d’écarlate, parée d’or, de pierreries et de perles!
And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
17 En une heure ont été anéanties de si grandes richesses! tous les pilotes, tous ceux qui naviguent sur le lac, les matelots et tous ceux qui font le commerce sur la mer, se sont tenus au loin,
For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
18 Et ont crié, voyant le lieu de son embrasement, disant: Quelle cité semblable à cette grande cité?
And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What [city is] like unto this great city!
19 Et ils ont jeté de la poussière sur leur tête, et ils ont poussé des cris mêlés de larmes et de sanglots, disant: Malheur! malheur! cette grande cité, dans laquelle sont devenus riches tous ceux qui avaient des vaisseaux sur la mer, en une heure, elle a été ruinée!
And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
20 Ciel, réjouis-toi sur elle, et vous aussi, saints apôtres et prophètes, parce que Dieu vous a fait pleinement justice d’elle.
Rejoice over her, [thou] heaven, and [ye] holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
21 Alors un ange fort leva en haut une pierre comme une grande meule, et la jeta dans la mer, disant: Ainsi sera précipitée Babylone, cette grande cité, et à l’avenir elle ne sera plus trouvée.
And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast [it] into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
22 Et la voix des joueurs de harpes, des musiciens, des joueurs de flûte et de trompette, ne sera plus entendue en toi; et nul artisan d’aucun métier ne sera trouvé en toi; et le bruit de la meule ne sera pas entendu en toi désormais,
And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft [he be], shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
23 Et la lumière des lampes ne luira plus en toi désormais, et la voix de l’époux et de l’épouse ne sera plus entendue en toi, parce que tes marchands étaient des princes de la terre, et que par tes enchantements se sont égarées toutes les nations.
And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
24 Et dans cette ville a été trouvé le sang des prophètes et des saints, et de tous ceux qui ont été tués sur la terre.
And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
