Matthieu 17
1 Six jours après, Jésus prit Pierre, Jacques et Jean son frère, et les conduisit sur une haute montagne, à l’écart.
And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
2 Et il fut transfiguré devant eux; sa face resplendit comme le soleil, et ses vêtements devinrent blancs comme la neige.
And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
3 Et voilà que Moïse et Elie leur apparurent, s’entretenant avec lui.
And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
4 Or, prenant la parole, Pierre dit à Jésus: Seigneur, il nous est bon d’être ici; si vous voulez, faisons-y trois tentes, une pour vous, une pour Moïse, et une pour Elie.
Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5 Il parlait encore, lorsqu’une nuée lumineuse les couvrit. Et voici une voix de la nuée, disant: Celui-ci est mon fils bien-aimé, en qui j’ai mis toutes mes complaisances. Ecoutez-le.
While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
6 Or, les disciples entendant cela, tombèrent sur leur face, et furent saisis d’une frayeur extrême.
And when the disciples heard [it], they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
7 Mais Jésus s’approcha et les toucha; et il leur dit: Levez-vous et ne craignez point.
And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
8 Alors, levant les yeux, ils ne virent plus personne, si ce n’est Jésus, seul.
And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
9 Et comme ils descendaient de la montagne, Jésus leur commanda, disant: Ne parlez à personne de cette vision, jusqu’à ce que le Fils de l’homme ressuscite d’entre les morts.
And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
10 Et les disciples l’interrogèrent, disant: Pourquoi donc les scribes disent-ils qu’il faut qu’auparavant Elie vienne?
And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
11 Jésus répondant, leur dit: Elie, en effet, doit venir, et il rétablira toutes choses.
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.
12 Mais je vous le dis: Elie est déjà venu, et ils ne l’ont point connu, et ils lui ont fait tout ce qu’ils ont voulu. C’est ainsi que le Fils de l’homme lui-même doit être traité par eux.
But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
13 Alors les disciples comprirent qu’il leur avait parlé de Jean-Baptiste.
Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
14 Lorsqu’il fut venu vers le peuple, un homme s’approcha de lui, et il se jeta à ses pieds, disant:
And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a [certain] man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
15 Seigneur, ayez pitié de mon fils, parce qu’il est lunatique et qu’il souffre cruellement; car il tombe souvent dans le feu et souvent dans l’eau.
Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16 Je l’ai présenté à vos disciples, et ils n’ont pu le guérir.
And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17 Et répondant, Jésus dit: Ô race incrédule et perverse, jusqu’à quand serai-je avec vous? jusqu’à quand vous supporterai-je? Amenez-le-moi ici.
Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
18 Or, Jésus ayant gourmandé le démon, il sortit de l’enfant, qui fut guéri à l’heure même.
And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Alors les disciples s’approchèrent de Jésus en secret, et lui dirent: Pourquoi nous, n’avons-nous pu le chasser?
Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 Jésus leur répondit: À cause de votre incrédulité. En vérité, je vous le dis, si vous aviez de la foi comme un grain de sénevé, vous diriez à cette montagne: Passe d’ici là, et elle y passerait, et rien ne vous serait impossible.
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Mais ce genre de démons ne se chasse que par la prière et le jeûne.
Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
22 Or, tandis qu’ils se trouvaient en Galilée, Jésus leur dit: Le Fils de l’homme doit être livré entre les mains des hommes.
And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:
23 Et ils le tueront, et le troisième jour il ressuscitera. Et ils furent extrêmement contristés.
And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.
24 Lorsqu’ils vinrent à Capharnaüm, ceux qui recevaient le didrachme s’approchèrent de Pierre, et lui demandèrent: Est-ce que votre maître ne paye pas le didrachme?
And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute [money] came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
25 Il répondit: Il le paye. Et lorsqu’il fut entré dans la maison, Jésus le prévint, disant: Que t’en semble, Simon? De qui les rois de la terre reçoivent-ils le tribut ou le cens? de leurs enfants ou des étrangers?
He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
26 Et Pierre répondit: Des étrangers. Jésus lui dit: Ainsi, les enfants en sont exempts.
Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
27 Cependant pour ne les point scandaliser, va à la mer, jette un hameçon; et le poisson qui le premier montera, prends-le; puis ouvrant sa bouche, tu trouveras un statère; l’ayant pris, donne-le pour moi et pour toi.
Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
