Matthieu 15
1 Alors s’approchèrent de lui les scribes et les pharisiens de Jérusalem, disant:
Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,
2 Pourquoi vos disciples transgressent-ils la tradition des anciens? car ils ne lavent pas leurs mains, lorsqu’ils mangent du pain.
Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
3 Mais Jésus leur répondit, disant: Et vous, pourquoi transgressez-vous le commandement de Dieu, pour votre tradition? Car Dieu a dit:
But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
4 Honore ton père et ta mère; et quiconque maudira son père ou sa mère, mourra de mort.
For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
5 Mais vous, vous dites: Quiconque dit à son père ou à sa mère: Tout don que j’offre, tournera à votre profit, satisfait à la loi;
But ye say, Whosoever shall say to [his] father or [his] mother, [It is] a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
6 Et cependant il n’honore point son père ou sa mère; ainsi vous avez détruit le commandement de Dieu pour votre tradition.
And honour not his father or his mother, [he shall be free]. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.
7 Hypocrites, Isaïe a bien prophétisé de vous, disant:
[Ye] hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
8 Ce peuple m’honore des lèvres; mais son cœur est loin de moi.
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with [their] lips; but their heart is far from me.
9 Et il est vain le culte qu’ils me rendent, enseignant des doctrines et des ordonnances humaines.
But in vain they do worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men.
10 Puis, ayant appelé à lui le peuple, il leur dit: Ecoutez et comprenez.
And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
11 Ce n’est pas ce qui entre dans la bouche qui souille l’homme; mais ce qui sort de la bouche, voilà ce qui souille l’homme.
Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
12 Alors, ses disciples s’approchant, lui dirent: Savez-vous que les pharisiens, cette parole entendue, se sont scandalisés?
Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
13 Mais Jésus, répondant, dit: Toute plante que mon Père céleste n’a point plantée, sera arrachée.
But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
14 Laissez-les; ils sont aveugles et conducteurs d’aveugles; or, si un aveugle conduit un aveugle ils tombent tous deux dans une fosse.
Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
15 Prenant alors la parole, Pierre lui dit: Expliquez-nous cette parabole.
Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.
16 Mais Jésus répondit: Et vous aussi, êtes-vous encore sans intelligence?
And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
17 Ne comprenez-vous point que tout ce qui entre dans la bouche va au ventre, et est rejeté en un lieu secret?
Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
18 Mais ce qui sort de la bouche vient du cœur, et voilà ce qui souille l’homme.
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
19 Car du cœur viennent les mauvaises pensées, les homicides, les adultères, les fornications, les vols, les faux témoignages, les blasphèmes.
For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
20 C’est là ce qui souille l’homme; mais manger sans avoir lavé ses mains, ne souille point l’homme.
These are [the things] which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.
21 Jésus étant parti de là, se retira du côté de Tyr et de Sidon.
Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
22 Et voici qu’une femme chananéenne, sortie de ces contrées, s’écria, lui disant: Seigneur, fils de David, ayez pitié de moi; ma fille est cruellement tourmentée par le démon.
And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, [thou] Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
23 Jésus ne lui répondit pas un mot. Et ses disciples s’approchant de lui le priaient, disant: Renvoyez-la, car elle crie derrière nous.
But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
24 Mais Jésus répondant, dit: Je n’ai été envoyé qu’aux brebis perdues de la maison d’Israël.
But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
25 Elle, cependant, vint et l’adora, disant: Seigneur, secourez-moi.
Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
26 Jésus répliquant, dit: Il n’est pas bien de prendre le pain des enfants et de le jeter aux chiens.
But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast [it] to dogs.
27 Mais elle repartit: Il est vrai, Seigneur; mais les petits chiens mangent les miettes qui tombent de la table de leurs maîtres.
And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.
28 Alors reprenant la parole, Jésus lui dit: Ô femme, grande est votre foi; qu’il vous soit fait comme vous désirez. Et sa fuie fut guérie dès cette heure-là.
Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great [is] thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
29 Et lorsqu’il fut parti de là, Jésus vint le long de la mer de Galilée; et montant sur la montagne, il s’y assit.
And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.
30 Alors s’approcha de lui une grande foule, ayant avec elle des muets, des aveugles, des boiteux, des infirmes et beaucoup d’autres; et on les mit à ses pieds, et il les guérit:
And great multitudes came unto him, having with them [those that were] lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them:
31 De sorte que la foule était dans l’admiration, voyant des muets parlant, des boiteux marchant, des aveugles voyant; et elle glorifiait le Dieu d’Israël.
Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.
32 Cependant, Jésus ayant appelé ses disciples, dit: J’ai pitié de ce peuple, car il y a déjà trois jours qu’ils sont constamment avec moi, et ils n’ont pas de quoi manger; et je ne veux pas les renvoyer à jeun, de peur qu’ils ne défaillent en chemin.
Then Jesus called his disciples [unto him], and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.
33 Les disciples lui répondirent: Où donc nous procurer, dans un désert, assez de pains pour rassasier une si grande multitude?
And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?
34 Et Jésus leur demanda: Combien avez-vous de pains? Et eux lui dirent: Sept, et quelques petits poissons.
And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.
35 Alors il commanda au peuple de s’asseoir sur la terre.
And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.
36 Et prenant les sept pains et les poissons, et rendant grâces, il les rompit et les donna à ses disciples, et ses disciples les donnèrent au peuple.
And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake [them], and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
37 Et tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés. Et de ce qui resta de morceaux, ses disciples emportèrent sept corbeilles pleines.
And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken [meat] that was left seven baskets full.
38 Or, ceux qui mangèrent étaient au nombre de quatre mille hommes, outre les petits enfants et les femmes.
And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.
39 Et le peuple renvoyé, il monta dans la barque, et vint aux confins du Magédan.
And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.
