Job 11

1 Sophar de Naama prit la parole et dit:

Then responded Zophar the Naamathite, and said: —

2 Celui qui parle tant n’écoutera-t-il pas à son tour? et suffira-t-il d’être un grand parleur pour paraître juste?

Should, the multitude of words, not be answered? Or should, a man full of talk, be justified?

3 Les hommes se tairont-ils pour toi seul? et après t’être moqué des autres, ne seras-tu confondu par personne?

Shall, thy pratings, cause men to hold their peace? When thou hast mocked, shall there be none to put thee to shame?

4 Car tu as dit: Ma doctrine est pure, et je suis sans tache en votre présence.

Since thou hast said, Right is my doctrine, and pure am I in his eyes.

5 Qu’il serait à souhaiter que Dieu te parlât, et qu’il ouvrît pour toi sa bouche,

But, in very deed, oh that GOD would speak, that he would open his lips with thee:

6 pour te découvrir les secrets de sa sagesse, et la multiplicité des préceptes de sa loi, et pour te faire comprendre qu’il exige beaucoup moins de toi que ne mérite ton iniquité!

That he would declare to thee the secrets of wisdom, for they are double to that which actually is, —Know then that GOD could bring into forgetfulness for thee, a portion of thine iniquity.

7 Prétends-tu sonder ce qui est caché en Dieu, et connaître parfaitement le Tout-Puissant?

The hidden depth of GOD canst thou discover? Or, unto the furthest limit of the Almighty, canst thou attain?

8 Il est plus élevé que le ciel, que feras-tu? Il est plus profond que l’enfer, comment le connaîtras-tu? (Sheol h7585)

The heights of the heavens, what canst thou do? Depths deeper than hades, what canst thou know? (Sheol h7585)

9 Sa mesure dépasse la longueur de la terre et la largeur de la mer.

Longer than the earth, is the measure thereof, and broader than the sea.

10 S’il renverse tout, s’il confond toutes choses ensemble, qui pourra s’opposer à lui?

If he sweep on, or shut up, or call together, Who then shall hinder him?

11 Car il connaît la vanité des hommes, et, voyant l’iniquité, ne la considère-t-il pas?

For, he, knoweth men of falsity, and seeth iniquity, and him that doth not diligently consider.

12 L’homme vain s’élève jusqu’à l’orgueil, et il se croit né libre comme le poulain de l’âne sauvage.

But, an empty person, will get sense, when, a wild ass’s colt, is born a man!

13 Mais toi, tu as endurci ton cœur, et tu as élevé tes mains vers Dieu.

If, thou, hast prepared thy heart, and wilt spread forth, unto him, thy hands—

14 Si tu bannis l’iniquité qui est dans tes mains, et que l’injustice ne demeure pas dans ta tente,

If, iniquity, be in thy hand, Put it far away, and let there not dwell in thy tents perversity,

15 alors tu pourras lever ton visage sans tache; tu seras stable, et tu ne craindras pas.

Surely, then, shalt thou lift up thy face free from blemish, and shalt be established, and not fear.

16 Tu oublieras même ta misère, et tu t’en souviendras comme d’eaux qui se sont écoulées.

For, now, shalt thou forget, sorrow, Like waters passed away, shalt thou remember it.

17 Sur le soir se lèvera pour toi comme l’éclat du midi; et lorsque tu te croiras perdu, tu apparaîtras comme l’étoile du matin.

Above high noon, shall rise life’s continuance, Darkness, like a morning, shall appear,

18 L’espérance qui te sera proposée te remplira de confiance; et, entrant dans le sépulcre, tu dormiras en assurance.

And thou shalt he confident, that there is hope, and, when thou hast searched, securely shalt thou lie down;

19 Tu te reposeras sans que personne ne te trouble, et plusieurs imploreront tes regards.

And shalt rest, with none to put thee in terror, —and many shall entreat thy favour.

20 Mais les yeux des méchants seront consumés; pour eux pas de refuge, et ce que l’âme a en horreur, voilà leur espérance.

But, the eyes of the lawless, shall fail, —and, place of refuge, shall have vanished from them, and, their hope, be a breathing out of life.
