2 Samuel 15
1 Ainsi, après cela, Absalom se procura des chariots, des cavaliers et cinquante hommes qui le précédaient.
And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him.
2 Et, se levant dès le matin, Absalom se tenait à l’entrée de la porte; et tout homme qui avait une affaire telle, qu’il venait au jugement du roi, Absalom l’appelait à lui, et demandait: De quelle ville es-tu? Celui-ci répondant, disait: Moi votre serviteur, je suis de telle tribu d’Israël.
And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was [so], that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city [art] thou? And he said, Thy servant [is] of one of the tribes of Israel.
3 Et Absalom lui répondait: Tes paroles me paraissent bonnes et justes; mais il n’y a personne établi par le roi, qui puisse t’entendre. Absalom ajoutait:
And Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters [are] good and right; but [there is] no man [deputed] of the king to hear thee.
4 Qui m’établira juge sur la terre, pour que viennent à moi tous ceux qui ont une affaire, et que je juge justement?
Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!
5 Mais aussi lorsqu’un homme s’approchait de lui, pour le saluer, il étendait sa main et, le prenant, il l’embrassait.
And it was [so], that when any man came nigh [to him] to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took him, and kissed him.
6 Et il faisait cela à tout Israël venant au jugement, pour être entendu par le roi, et il sollicitait les cœurs des hommes d’Israël.
And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
7 Mais après quarante ans, Absalom dit au roi David: Permettez que j’aille, et je m’acquitterai de mes vœux que j’ai voués au Seigneur à Hébron.
And it came to pass after forty years, that Absalom said unto the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed unto the LORD, in Hebron.
8 Car vouant, votre serviteur a voué, lorsqu’il était à Gessur de Syrie, disant: Si le Seigneur me ramène à Jérusalem, je sacrifierai au Seigneur.
For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If the LORD shall bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.
9 Et le roi David lui répondit: Va en paix. Et il se leva, et il alla à Hébron.
And the king said unto him, Go in peace. So he arose, and went to Hebron.
10 Mais Absalom envoya des explorateurs dans toutes les tribus d’Israël, disant: Aussitôt que vous entendrez le son de la trompette, dites: Absalom règne dans Hébron.
But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom reigneth in Hebron.
11 Or, il alla avec Absalom deux cents hommes de Jérusalem, appelés, allant d’un cœur simple, et ignorant entièrement le motif.
And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem, [that were] called; and they went in their simplicity, and they knew not any thing.
12 Absalom fit venir aussi Achitophel, le Gilonite, conseiller de David, de sa ville de Gilo. Et comme il immolait les victimes, la conjuration devint puissante, et le peuple accourant, augmentait auprès d’Absalom.
And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counsellor, from his city, [even] from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.
13 Il vint donc un messager vers David, disant: Tout Israël suit de tout cœur Absalom.
And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.
14 Et David dit à ses serviteurs qui étaient avec lui à Jérusalem: Levez-vous, fuyons; car il n’y aura point de moyen pour nous d’échapper à la face d’Absalom: hâtez-vous de sortir, de peur qu’arrivant, il ne nous prévienne, et ne lance sur nous la ruine, et ne frappe la ville du tranchant du glaive.
And David said unto all his servants that [were] with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not [else] escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.
15 Et les officiers du roi lui répondirent: Tout ce qu’ordonnera notre seigneur, le roi, nous, vos serviteurs, nous l’exécuterons de bon gré.
And the king’s servants said unto the king, Behold, thy servants [are ready to do] whatsoever my lord the king shall appoint.
16 Le roi donc sortit et toute sa maison, à pied; et le roi laissa dix femmes du second rang pour garder la maison.
And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, [which were] concubines, to keep the house.
17 Et le roi étant sorti et tout Israël, à pied, il s’arrêta loin de la maison;
And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and tarried in a place that was far off.
18 Et tous ses serviteurs marchaient près de lui, et les légions des Céréthiens et des Phéléthiens, et tous les Géthéens, combattants valeureux, six cents hommes de pied, qui l’avaient suivi de Geth, précédaient le roi.
And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men which came after him from Gath, passed on before the king.
19 Or, le roi dit à Ethaï, le Géthéen: Pourquoi viens-tu avec nous? retourne et demeure avec le roi, parce que tu es étranger, et que tu es sorti de ton pays.
Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore goest thou also with us? return to thy place, and abide with the king: for thou [art] a stranger, and also an exile.
20 C’est hier que tu es venu, et aujourd’hui tu seras contraint de sortir avec nous? Pour moi, j’irai où je dois aller; retourne, et ramène avec toi les frères, et le Seigneur te fera miséricorde et justice, parce que tu as montré du zèle et de la fidélité.
Whereas thou camest [but] yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us? seeing I go whither I may, return thou, and take back thy brethren: mercy and truth [be] with thee.
21 Et Ethaï répondit au roi: Le Seigneur vit, et mon seigneur le roi vit! en quelque lieu que vous soyez, mon seigneur, le roi, soit en la mort, soit en la vie, là sera votre serviteur.
And Ittai answered the king, and said, [As] the LORD liveth, and [as] my lord the king liveth, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also will thy servant be.
22 Alors David dit à Ethaï: Viens, et passe. Et Ethaï, le Géthéen, passa, et tous les hommes qui étaient avec lui, et le reste de la multitude.
And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones that [were] with him.
23 Et tous pleuraient à haute voix, et tout le peuple passait; le roi aussi traversait le torrent de Cédron, et tout le peuple marchait le long de la voie qui regarde vers le désert.
And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness.
24 Or, vint Sadoc, le prêtre, et tous les Lévites avec lui, portant l’arche de l’alliance de Dieu, et ils déposèrent l’arche de Dieu; et Abiathar monta, jusqu’à ce qu’eût entièrement passé tout le peuple qui était sorti de la ville.
And lo Zadok also, and all the Levites [were] with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city.
25 Alors le roi dit à Sadoc: Reporte l’arche de Dieu dans la ville. Si je trouve grâce aux yeux du Seigneur, il me ramènera, et il me la montrera, ainsi que son tabernacle.
And the king said unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favour in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and shew me [both] it, and his habitation:
26 Mais s’il me dit: Tu ne me plais point, je suis prêt, qu’il fasse ce qui est bon devant lui.
But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee; behold, [here am] I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him.
27 Et le roi dit à Sadoc, le prêtre: ô voyant, retourne dans la ville en paix; et qu’Achimas, ton fils, et Jonathas, fils d’Abiathar, vos deux fils, soient avec vous.
The king said also unto Zadok the priest, [Art not] thou a seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.
28 Voilà que moi, je me cacherai dans les plaines du désert, jusqu’à ce que vienne de vous une parole me mettant au courant.
See, I will tarry in the plain of the wilderness, until there come word from you to certify me.
29 Sadoc donc et Abiathar reportèrent l’arche de Dieu à Jérusalem, et demeurèrent là.
Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the ark of God again to Jerusalem: and they tarried there.
30 Cependant David gravissait la pente de la montagne des Oliviers, montant et pleurant, marchant nu-pieds, et la tête couverte; et aussi tout le peuple qui était avec lui, la tête couverte, montait pleurant.
And David went up by the ascent of [mount] Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that [was] with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.
31 Or, on annonça à David qu’Achitophel était dans la conjuration avec Absalom, et David dit: Je vous prie, Seigneur, rendez insensés les conseils d’Achitophel.
And [one] told David, saying, Ahithophel [is] among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.
32 Or, lorsque David gravissait le sommet de la montagne, sur lequel il devait adorer le Seigneur, voilà qu’accourut au-devant de lui Chusaï, l’Arachite, le vêtement déchiré et la tête pleine de terre.
And it came to pass, that [when] David was come to the top [of the mount], where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head:
33 Et David lui répondit: Si tu viens avec moi, tu me seras à charge;
Unto whom David said, If thou passest on with me, then thou shalt be a burden unto me:
34 Mais si tu retournes à la ville, et que tu dises à Absalom: Je suis votre serviteur, ô roi; comme j’ai été le serviteur de votre père, ainsi je serai votre serviteur, tu dissiperas les conseils d’Achitophel.
But if thou return to the city, and say unto Absalom, I will be thy servant, O king; [as] I [have been] thy father’s servant hitherto, so [will] I now also [be] thy servant: then mayest thou for me defeat the counsel of Ahithophel.
35 Or, tu as avec toi Sadoc et Abiathar, prêtres; et, toute parole quelconque que tu auras ouïe de la maison du roi, tu la feras connaître à Sadoc et à Abiathar, prêtres.
And [hast thou] not there with thee Zadok and Abiathar the priests? therefore it shall be, [that] what thing soever thou shalt hear out of the king’s house, thou shalt tell [it] to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.
36 Il y a aussi avec eux leurs deux fils, Achimas, fils de Sadoc, et Jonathas, fils d’Abiathar, et vous m’enverrez par eux toute parole que vous aurez ouïe.
Behold, [they have] there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz Zadok’s [son], and Jonathan Abiathar’s [son; ] and by them ye shall send unto me every thing that ye can hear.
37 Chusaï donc, ami de David, étant venu dans la ville, Absalom aussi entra à Jérusalem.
So Hushai David’s friend came into the city, and Absalom came into Jerusalem.
