2 Chroniques 20
1 Après cela les enfants de Moab et les enfants d’Ammon, et avec eux des Ammonites, s’assemblèrent contre Josaphat pour combattre contre lui.
And it cometh to pass after this, the sons of Moab have come in, and the sons of Ammon, and with them of the peoples, against Jehoshaphat to battle.
2 Et des messagers vinrent et l’annoncèrent à Josaphat, disant: Une grande multitude vient contre vous des lieux qui sont au-delà de la mer et de la Syrie, et voilà qu’ils s’arrêtent à Asasonthamar, qui est Engaddi.
And they come in and declare to Jehoshaphat, saying, 'Come against thee hath a great multitude from beyond the sea, from Aram, and lo, they [are] in Hazezon-Tamar — it [is] En-Gedi.'
3 Or, Josaphat, saisi de crainte, s’appliqua entièrement à prier le Seigneur, et publia un jeûne dans tout Juda.
And Jehoshaphat feareth, and setteth his face to seek to Jehovah, and proclaimeth a fast over all Judah;
4 Et Juda s’assembla pour prier le Seigneur, et même tous sortirent de leurs villes pour l’implorer,
and Judah is gathered to inquire of Jehovah; also, from all the cities of Judah they have come in to seek Jehovah.
5 Et lorsque Josaphat se fut levé au milieu de Juda et de Jérusalem dans la maison du Seigneur, devant le parvis nouveau,
And Jehoshaphat standeth in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Jehovah, at the front of the new court,
6 Il dit: Seigneur Dieu de nos pères, c’est vous qui êtes Dieu dans le ciel, et qui dominez sur tous les royaumes des nations: dans votre main sont la force et la puissance, et personne ne peut vous résister.
and saith, 'O Jehovah, God of our fathers, art not Thou — God in the heavens? yea, Thou art ruling over all kingdoms of the nations, and in Thy hand [is] power and might, and there is none with Thee to station himself.
7 N’est-ce pas vous, notre Dieu, qui avez tué tous les habitants de cette terre devant votre peuple Israël, et qui l’avez donnée à la postérité d’Abraham, votre ami pour toujours?
'Art not Thou our God? Thou hast dispossessed the inhabitants of this land from before Thy people Israel, and dost give it to the seed of Abraham Thy friend to the age,
8 Et ils y ont habité, et ils y ont construit un sanctuaire à votre nom, disant:
and they dwell in it, and build to Thee in it a sanctuary for Thy name, saying,
9 S’il fond sur nous des maux, un glaive de jugement, une peste, et une famine, nous nous tiendrons en votre présence devant cette maison, dans laquelle a été invoqué votre nom, et nous crierons vers vous dans nos tribulations, et vous nous exaucerez, et vous nous sauverez.
If evil doth come upon us — sword, judgment, and pestilence, and famine — we stand before this house, and before Thee, for Thy name [is] in this house, and cry unto Thee out of our distress, and Thou dost hear and save.
10 Maintenant donc, voilà que les enfants d’Ammon et de Moab, et les habitants de la montagne de Séir, au milieu desquels vous ne permîtes pas à Israël de passer lorsqu’ils sortaient d’Égypte; mais ils se détournèrent d’eux, et ils ne les tuèrent pas.
'And now, lo, sons of Ammon, and Moab, and mount Seir, whom Thou didst not grant to Israel to go in against in their coming out of the land of Egypt, for they turned aside from off them and destroyed them not,
11 Voilà que ces peuples agissent tout autrement, et ils s’efforcent de nous chasser de la possession que vous nous avez donnée.
and lo, they are recompensing to us — to come in to drive us out of Thy possession, that Thou hast caused us to possess.
12 Ô notre Dieu, ne les jugerez-vous pas? Certes, nous n’avons pas une assez grande force pour que nous puissions résister à cette multitude qui vient fondre sur nous. Mais, comme nous ignorons ce que nous devons faire, il ne nous reste qu’à diriger nos yeux vers vous.
'O our God, dost Thou not execute judgment upon them? for there is no power in us before this great multitude that hath come against us, and we know not what we do, but on Thee [are] our eyes.'
13 Or tout Juda était debout devant le Seigneur, avec leurs petits enfants, leurs femmes et leurs autres enfants.
And all Judah are standing before Jehovah, also their infants, their wives, and their sons.
14 Là était aussi Jahaziel, fils de Zacharie, fils de Banaïas, fils de Jéhiel, fils de Mathanias, Lévite de la famille d’Asaph; et l’Esprit de Dieu descendit sur lui au milieu de la multitude;
And upon Jahaziel, son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, hath the Spirit of Jehovah been, in the midst of the assembly,
15 Et il dit: Ecoutez, vous tous, Juda, et vous qui habitez Jérusalem, et vous aussi, roi Josaphat: Voici ce que vous dit le Seigneur: Ne craignez point, et ne redoutez point cette multitude; car ce n’est pas votre combat, mais celui de Dieu.
and he saith, 'Attend, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and O king Jehoshaphat, Thus said Jehovah to you, Ye fear not, nor are afraid of the face of this great multitude, for not for you [is] the battle, but for God.
16 Demain vous descendrez contre eux; car ils doivent monter par le coteau du nom de Sis, et vous les trouverez à l’extrémité du torrent qui est contre le désert de Jéruel.
To-morrow, go ye down against them, lo, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz, and ye have found them in the end of the valley, the front of the wilderness of Jeruel.
17 Ce ne sera pas vous qui combattrez; mais seulement soyez résolus, et vous verrez le secours du Seigneur sur vous, ô Juda et Jérusalem: ne craignez point et ne vous effrayez point; demain vous marcherez contre eux, et le Seigneur sera avec vous.
Not for you to fight in this; station yourselves, stand, and see the salvation of Jehovah with you, O Judah and Jerusalem — be not afraid nor fear ye — to-morrow go out before them, and Jehovah [is] with you.'
18 Josaphat donc, et Juda, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem, tombèrent inclinés vers la terre devant le Seigneur, et l’adorèrent.
And Jehoshaphat boweth — face to the earth — and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have fallen before Jehovah, to bow themselves to Jehovah.
19 Et les Lévites d’entre les enfants de Caath et d’entre les enfants de Coré louaient le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël avec une voix forte et élevée.
And the Levites, of the sons of the Kohathites, and of the sons of the Korhites, rise to give praise to Jehovah, God of Israel, with a loud voice on high.
20 Et lorsqu’au matin ils se furent levés, ils sortirent par le désert de Thécué; et, lorsqu’ils étaient en marche, Josaphat, debout au milieu d’eux, dit: Ecoutez-moi, hommes de Juda, et vous tous, habitants de Jérusalem: mettez votre confiance dans le Seigneur votre Dieu, et vous serez en sûreté; croyez à ses prophètes, et toutes choses seront prospères.
And they rise early in the morning, and go out to the wilderness of Tekoa, and in their going out Jehoshaphat hath stood and saith, 'Hear me, O Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, remain stedfast in Jehovah your God, and be stedfast; remain stedfast in His prophets, and prosper.'
21 Et il donna ses avis au peuple, et il établit les chantres du Seigneur pour le louer dans leurs diverses bandes, marcher devant l’armée, et d’une voix unanime dire: Rendez gloire au Seigneur, parce que sa miséricorde est éternelle.
And he taketh counsel with the people, and appointeth singers to Jehovah, and those giving praise to the honour of holiness, in the going out before the armed [men], and saying, 'Give ye thanks to Jehovah, for to the age [is] His kindness.'
22 Et lorsqu’ils eurent commencé à chanter ainsi des louanges, le Seigneur tourna tous les desseins des ennemis contre eux-mêmes, c’est-à-dire des enfants d’Ammon et de Moab, et des habitants de la montagne de Séir qui étaient sortis pour combattre contre Juda; et ils furent battus.
And at the time they have begun with singing and praise, Jehovah hath put ambushments against the sons of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, who are coming in to Judah, and they are smitten,
23 Car les fils d’Ammon et de Moab se levèrent contre les habitants de la montagne de Séir, pour les massacrer et les exterminer; et lorsqu’ils eurent achevé, s’étant aussi tournés contre eux-mêmes, ils tombèrent sous leurs coups mutuels.
and the sons of Ammon stand up, and Moab, against the inhabitants of mount Seir, to devote and to destroy, and at their finishing with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped, a man against his neighbour, to destroy.
24 Or, lorsque Juda fut venu à l’échauguette qui regarde le désert, il vit de loin tout le pays dans une grande étendue plein de cadavres, et qu’il ne restait personne qui eût pu échapper à la mort.
And Judah hath come in unto the watch-tower, to the wilderness, and they look unto the multitude, and lo, they [are] carcases fallen to the earth, and there is none escaped,
25 Josaphat vint donc, et tout le peuple avec lui, pour enlever les dépouilles des morts, et ils trouvèrent, parmi les cadavres, des meubles divers, des vêtements aussi et des vases très précieux, et ils les pillèrent; en sorte qu’ils ne purent tout emporter, ni enlever durant trois jours les dépouilles, à cause de la quantité du butin.
and Jehoshaphat cometh in, and his people, to seize their spoil, and they find among them, in abundance, both goods and carcases, and desirable vessels, and they take spoil to themselves without prohibition, and they are three days seizing the spoil, for it [is] abundant.
26 Or, le quatrième jour, ils s’assemblèrent dans la vallée de la Bénédiction; car, parce qu’ils y avaient béni le Seigneur, ils appelèrent ce lieu vallée de Bénédiction, jusqu’au présent jour.
And on the fourth day they have been assembled at the valley of Blessing, for there they blessed Jehovah: therefore they have called the name of that place, 'Valley of Blessing,' unto this day.
27 Ensuite tout homme de Juda, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et Josaphat à leur tête, retournèrent à Jérusalem dans une grande allégresse, parce que le Seigneur leur avait donné de la joie au sujet de leurs ennemis.
And they turn back, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat at their head, to go back unto Jerusalem with joy, for Jehovah hath made them rejoice over their enemies.
28 Ils entrèrent donc à Jérusalem dans la maison du Seigneur avec des psaltérions, des harpes et des trompettes.
And they come in to Jerusalem with psalteries, and with harps, and with trumpets, unto the house of Jehovah.
29 Mais la terreur du Seigneur fondit sur tous les royaumes des pays voisins, lorsqu’ils eurent appris que le Seigneur avait combattu contre les ennemis d’Israël.
And there is a fear of God on all kingdoms of the lands in their hearing that Jehovah hath fought with the enemies of Israel,
30 Et le royaume de Josaphat se reposa, et Dieu lui donna la paix alentour.
and the kingdom of Jehoshaphat is quiet, and his God giveth rest to him round about.
31 Josaphat régna donc sur Juda; et il avait trente-cinq ans, lorsqu’il commença à régner: or il régna vingt-cinq ans à Jérusalem; et le nom de sa mère était Azuba, fille de Sélahi.
And Jehoshaphat reigneth over Judah, a son of thirty and five years in his reigning, and twenty and five years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Azubah daughter of Shilhi.
32 Et il marcha dans les voies de son père Asa, et il ne s’en détourna point, faisant ce qui était agréable devant le Seigneur.
And he walketh in the way of his father Asa, and hath not turned aside from it, to do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah.
33 Cependant il ne détruisit pas les hauts lieux, et le peuple n’avait pas encore dirigé son cœur vers le Seigneur Dieu de ses pères.
Only, the high places have not turned aside, and still the people have not prepared their heart for the God of their fathers.
34 Or le reste des actions de Josaphat, des premières et des dernières, est écrit dans l’histoire que Jéhu, fils d’Hanani, a insérée dans les Livres des rois d’Israël.
And the rest of the matters of Jehoshaphat, the first and the last, lo, they are written among the matters of Jehu son of Hanani, who hath been mentioned on the book of the kings of Israel.
35 Après cela, Josaphat, roi de Juda, contracta amitié avec Ochozias, roi d’Israël, dont les œuvres furent très impies.
And after this hath Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, (he did wickedly in [so] doing),
36 Et il contribua à ce qu’ils fissent des vaisseaux, qui iraient à Tharsis; ils firent donc une flotte à Asiongaber.
and he joineth him with himself to make ships to go to Tarshish, and they make ships in Ezion-Geber,
37 Mais Eliézer, fils de Dodaü de Marésa, prophétisa à Josaphat, disant: Parce que vous avez fait alliance avec Ochozias, le Seigneur Dieu a frappé vos œuvres, et vos vaisseaux ont été brisés, et ils n’ont pu aller à Tharsis.
and prophesy doth Eliezer son of Dodavah, of Mareshah, against Jehoshaphat, saying, 'For thy joining thyself with Ahaziah, Jehovah hath broken up thy works;' and the ships are broken, and have not retained [power] to go unto Tarshish.
