1 Samuel 20
1 Or, David s’enfuit de Naïoth, qui est en Ramatha, et étant venu, il dit devant Jonathas: Qu’ai-je fait? quelle est mon iniquité, et quel est mon péché contre ton père, puisqu’il cherche mon âme?
Forsothe Dauid fledde fro Naioth, which is in Ramatha, and cam and spak bifor Jonathas, What haue Y do? what is my wickidnesse, and what is my synne ayens thi fadir, for he sekith my lijf?
2 Jonathas lui répondit: À Dieu ne plaise! tu ne mourras pas; car mon père ne fait rien de grand ni de petit, s’il ne me l’a fait savoir auparavant. C’est donc la seule parole que mon père m’ait célée? Cela ne sera nullement.
And Jonathas seide to hym, Fer be it fro thee, thou schalt not die, for my fadir schal not do ony thing greet ether litil, `no but he schewe firste to me; therfor my fadir kepte preuy fro me this word oneli, forsothe it schal not be.
3 Et il jura de nouveau à David. Et celui-ci dit: Ton père sait certainement que j’ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, et il dira: Que Jonathas ne sache point ceci, de peur qu’il ne soit contristé. Bien plus, le Seigneur vit, et ton âme vit! car c’est d’un seul pas (pour ainsi dire) que moi et la mort nous sommes séparés.
And eft he swoor to Dauid. And Dauid seide, Treuli thi fadir woot, that Y haue founde grace `in thin iyen, and he schal seie, Jonathas wite not this, lest perauenture he be sory; certis the Lord lyueth, `and thi soule lyueth, for, that Y seie so, Y and deeth ben departid oneli bi o degree.
4 Et Jonathas répondit à David: Tout ce que me dira ton âme, je le ferai pour toi.
And Jonathas seide to Dauid, What euer thing thi soule schal seie to me, Y schal do to thee.
5 David dit alors à Jonathas: Voici que les calendes sont demain, et moi d’après l’usage, j’ai coutume de m’asseoir auprès du roi pour manger; laisse-moi donc aller me cacher dans la campagne jusqu’au soir du troisième jour.
And Dauid seide to Jonathas, Lo! calendis ben to morewe, and bi custom Y am wont to sitte bi the kyng to ete; therfor suffre thou me, `that Y be hid in the feeld `til to euentid of the thridde dai.
6 Si, regardant, ton père me demande, tu lui répondras: David m’a demandé d’aller promptement à Bethléhem, sa ville; parce que là les victimes solennelles sont présentées pour tous ceux de sa tribu.
If thi fadir biholdith, and axith me, thou schalt answere to hym, Dauid preiede me, that he schulde go swiftli into Bethleem, his citee, for solempne sacrifices ben there to alle the men of his lynage.
7 S’il dit: Bien, la paix sera faite avec ton serviteur; mais s’il s’irrite, sache que sa malice est à son comble.
If he seith, Wel, pees schal be to thi seruaunt; forsothe if he is wrooth, wite thou, that his malice is fillid.
8 Fais donc miséricorde à ton serviteur, puisque tu m’as fait faire, à moi, ton serviteur, l’alliance du Seigneur avec toi; mais s’il est quelque iniquité en moi, tue-moi toi-même, et ne m’introduis point auprès de ton père.
Therfor do thou mercy in to thi seruaunt, for thou madist me thi seruaunt to make with thee the boond of pees of the Lord; sotheli if ony wickidnesse is in me, sle thou me, and brynge thou not in me to thi fadir.
9 Et Jonathas dit: Loin de toi une pareille chose; car il ne peut pas se faire, que je sache d’une manière certaine que la malice de mon père contre toi est à son comble, et que je ne t’en informe point.
And Jonathas seide, Fer be this fro me, for it mai not be doon, that Y telle not to thee, if Y knowe certeynli, that the malice of my fadir is fillid ayens thee.
10 Et David répondit à Jonathas: Qui m’informera, si par hasard ton père répond durement à mon sujet?
And Dauid answeride to Jonathas, Who schal telle to me, if in caas thi fadir answerith harde ony thing of me?
11 Et Jonathas dit à David: Viens, et sortons dehors dans la campagne. Et lorsqu’ils furent sortis tous deux dans la campagne,
And Jonathas seide to Dauid, Come thou, and go we forth in to the feeld. And whanne bothe hadden go in to the feeld,
12 Jonathas dit à David: Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, si je découvre le dessein de mon père demain, ou après-demain, et qu’il y ait quelque chose de bon pour David, et que je n’envoie aussitôt vers toi, et que je ne t’en donne point connaissance,
Jonathas seide to Dauid, Lord God of Israel, if Y enquere the sentence of my fadir to morewe, ether in the nexte dai aftir, and ony `thing of good is of Dauid, and Y sende not anoon to thee,
13 Que le Seigneur fasse ceci à Jonathas, et qu’il ajoute cela. Mais si la malice de mon père persévère contre toi, j’ouvrirai ton oreille, et je te laisserai partir, afin que tu ailles en paix, et que le Seigneur soit avec toi, comme il a été avec mon père.
and make knowun to thee, God do these thingis to Jonathas, and `adde these thingis. Forsothe if the malice of my fadir contynueth ayens thee, Y schal schewe to thin eere, and Y schal delyuere thee, that thou go in pees; and the Lord be with thee, as he was with my fadir.
14 Et si je vis, tu useras envers moi de la miséricorde du Seigneur; mais si je meurs,
And if Y lyue, do thou the mercies of the Lord to me;
15 Tu ne retireras point à jamais ta miséricorde de ma maison, quand le Seigneur aura exterminé de la terre les ennemis de David jusqu’au dernier. Que le Seigneur enlève Jonathas de sa maison, et qu’il tire vengeance, des ennemis de David.
forsothe if Y am deed, `thou schalt not take awei thi mercy fro myn hows `til in to with outen ende; `and yif Y do it not, whanne the Lord schal drawe out bi the roote the enemyes of Dauid, ech man fro the lond, take he awei Jonathas fro his hows, and seke the Lord of the hond of the enemyes of Dauid.
16 Jonathas fit donc alliance avec la maison de David, et le Seigneur tira vengeance des ennemis de David.
Therfor Jonathas made boond of pees with the hows of Dauid, and the Lord souyte of the hond of enemyes of Dauid.
17 Et Jonathas renouvela ses serments à David, parce qu’il l’aimait; car il l’aimait comme son âme.
And Jonathas addide to swere stedfastli to Dauid, for he louyde Dauid; for he louyde so Dauid, as his owne soule.
18 Et Jonathas lui dit: Demain sont les calendes, et on s’enquerra de toi;
And Jonathas seide to hym, `Calendis ben to morewe, and thou schalt be souyt;
19 Car on s’enquerra de ta place jusqu’après demain. Tu descendras donc, te hâtant, et tu viendras dans le lieu où tu dois être cachée au jour auquel il est permis de travailler, et tu te tiendras près de la pierre dont le nom est Ezel.
for thi sittyng schal be souyt til after to morewe. Therfor thou schalt go doun hastili, and thou schalt come in to the place, where thou schalt be hid in the day, whanne it is leueful to worche; and thou schalt sitte bisidis the stoon, `to which the name is Ezel.
20 Et moi je décocherai trois flèches près de la pierre, et je les lancerai, comme m’exerçant à atteindre le but.
And Y schal sende thre arowis bisidis that stoon, and Y schal caste as `excercisynge ether pleiynge me at a signe.
21 J’enverrai aussi mon serviteur, lui disant: Va, et apporte-moi les flèches.
Y schal sende also and my child, and Y schal seie to hym, Go thou, and brynge to me the arewis.
22 Si je dis à mon serviteur: Voici que les flèches sont en deçà de toi, prends-les; viens toi-même à moi, parce que la paix est avec toi, et il n’y a rien de mal; le Seigneur vit! Mais si je parle ainsi à mon serviteur: Voici que les flèches sont au-delà de toi; va en paix, parce que le Seigneur te laisse aller.
If Y seie to the child, Lo! the arewis ben `with ynne thee, take thou tho; come thou to me, for pees is to thee, and no thing is of yuel, the Lord lyueth. Sotheli if Y speke thus to the child, Lo! the arowis ben biyende thee; go thou in pees, for the Lord deliuerede thee.
23 Quant à la parole que nous avons dite, moi et toi, que le Seigneur soit entre moi et toi pour toujours.
Forsothe of the word, which thou and Y han spoke, the Lord be bitwixe me and thee til in to with outen ende.
24 David donc se cacha dans la campagne, et vinrent les calendes, et le roi s’assit pour manger du pain.
Therfor Dauid was hid in the feeld; and the `calendis camen, and the kyng sat to ete breed.
25 Et lorsque le roi se fut assis (selon la coutume) sur son siège près de la muraille, Jonathas se leva; Abner s’assit à côté de Saül, et la place de David parut vide.
And whanne the kyng hadde seete on his chaier bi custom, `which chaier was bisidis the wal, Jonathas roos, and sat `aftir Abner, and Abner sat at the side of Saul, and the place of Dauid apperide voide.
26 Et Saül ne dit rien en ce jour-là; car il pensait que peut-être il était arrivé à David de n’être pas pur, et de n’avoir pas été purifié.
And Saul spak not ony thing in that dai; for he thouyte, that `in hap it bifelde to hym, that he was not clene `nether purified.
27 Et lorsque fut venu le second jour après les calendes, la place de David parut encore vide. Et Saül demanda à Jonathas, son fils: Pourquoi le fils d’Isaï n’est-il point venu, ni hier, ni aujourd’hui, pour manger?
And whanne the secounde dai aftir the calendis hadde schyned, eft the place of Dauid apperide voide. And Saul seide to Jonathas his sone, Whi cometh not the sone of Isai, nether yisterdai, nether to dai to ete?
28 Et Jonathas répondit à Saül: Il m’a demandé instamment d’aller à Bethléhem,
And Jonathas answeride to Saul, He preiede me mekeli, that he schulde go in to Bethleem;
29 Et il a dit: Laissez-moi aller, parce qu’il y a un sacrifice solennel en ma cité, un de mes frères m’a appelé; maintenant donc, si j’ai trouvé grâce à vos yeux, j’irai aussitôt, et je verrai mes frères. C’est pour cette raison qu’il n’est pas venu à la table du roi.
and he seide, Suffre thou me, for solempne sacrifice is in my citee; oon of my britheren clepide me; now therfor if Y foond grace `in thin iyen, Y schal go soone, and `Y schal se my britheren; for this cause he cometh not to the `table of the kyng.
30 Or, Saül irrité contre Jonathas, lui dit: Fils d’une femme qui ravit volontiers un homme, est-ce que j’ignore que tu aimes le fils d’Isaï, à ta confusion, et à la confusion de ton ignominieuse mère?
Forsothe Saul was wrooth ayens Jonathas, and seide to hym, Thou sone of a womman `rauyschynge at her owne wille a man, whether Y woot not, that thou louest the sone of Ysay in to thi confusioun, and in to the confusioun of thi schendful modir?
31 Car durant tous les jours que le fils d’Isaï vivra sur la terre, tu ne seras pas affermi, ni toi, ni ton royaume. C’est pourquoi, envoie dès maintenant, et amène-le-moi, parce que c’est un fils de mort.
For in alle the daies in whiche the sone of Isai lyueth on erthe, thou schalt not be stablischid, nether thi rewme; therfor `riyt now sende thou, and brynge hym to me, for he is the sone of deeth.
32 Mais Jonathas répondant à Saül, son père, dit: Pourquoi mourra-t-il? qu’a-t-il fait?
Sotheli Jonathas answeride to Saul his fadir, and seide, Whi schal he die? what hath he do?
33 Et Saül saisit sa lance pour le frapper. Et Jonathas comprit qu’il avait été arrêté par son père de tuer David.
And Saul took the spere, that he schulde smyte hym, and Jonathas vndirstood, that it was determynd of his fadir, that Dauid schulde be slayn.
34 Jonathas donc se leva de table dans une colère de fureur, et il ne mangea pas de pain le second jour des calendes; car il était contristé au sujet de David, parce que son père l’avait outragé.
Therfor Jonathas roos fro the table in `the ire of woodnesse, and he ete not breed in the secounde dai of calendis; for he was sori on Dauid, for his fadir hadde schent him.
35 Et lorsque le matin fut venu, Jonathas vint à la campagne, selon la convention faite avec David, et un petit serviteur avec lui,
And whanne the morewtid `hadde schyned, Jonathas cam in to the feeld, and a litil child with hym, bi the couenaunt of Dauid.
36 Et il dit à son serviteur: Va, et apporte-moi les flèches que je tire. Et lorsque le serviteur eut couru, il tira une autre flèche au-delà du serviteur.
And Jonathas seide to his child, Go thou, and brynge to me the arowis whiche Y caste. And whanne the child hadde runne, he castide another arowe biyende the child.
37 C’est pourquoi le serviteur vint à l’endroit du trait qu’avait lancé Jonathas; et Jonathas cria derrière le serviteur, et dit: La voilà la flèche, là-bas, au-delà de toi.
Therfor the child cam to the place of the arowe which Jonathas hadde sent; and Jonathas criede bihynde the `bak of the child, and seide, Lo! the arowe is not there, certis it is biyende thee.
38 Et Jonathas cria encore derrière le serviteur, disant: Hâte-toi vite, ne t’arrête point. Or le serviteur de Jonathas recueillit les flèches, et les apporta à son maître;
And Jonathas criede eft bihynde the bak of the child, `and seide, Haste thou swiftli, stonde thou not. Therfor the child gaderide the arowis of Jonathas, and brouyte to his lord,
39 Quant à ce qui se faisait, il l’ignorait entièrement; car Jonathas et David seulement savaient la chose.
and outerli he wiste not what was doon; for oonli Jonathas and Dauid knewen the thing.
40 Ensuite Jonathas donna ses armes au serviteur, et lui dit: Va, et porte-les à la ville.
Therfor Jonathas yaf hise armeris to the child, and seide to hym, Go thou, bere in to the citee.
41 Et lorsque le serviteur s’en fut allé, David se leva du lieu, qui regardait le midi, et tombant incliné vers la terre, il se prosterna par trois fois; et, s’embrassant l’un l’autre, ils pleurèrent ensemble, mais David beaucoup plus.
And whanne the child hadde go, Dauid roos fro the place that `yede to the south; and he felde low `in to the erthe, and worschipide the thridde tyme, and thei kissiden hem silf to gidere, and `wepten to gidere; forsothe Dauid wepte more.
42 Jonathas donc dit à David: Va en paix; tout ce que nous avons juré tous deux, au nom du Seigneur, disant: Que le Seigneur soit entre moi et toi, et entre ma postérité et ta postérité pour toujours… Et David se leva et s’en alla; mais Jonathas rentra dans la ville.
Therfor Jonathas seide to Dauid, Go thou in pees; what euer thingis we bothe han swoore in the `name of the Lord, `and seiden, `The Lord be bitwixe me and thee, and bitwixe my seed and thi seed til in to with outen ende, `be stidfast. And Dauid roos, and yede, but also Jonathas entride in to the citee.
