1 Corinthiens 9

1 Ne suis-je pas libre? Ne suis-je pas apôtre? N’ai-je pas vu Jésus-Christ Notre Seigneur? N’êtes-vous pas mon œuvre dans le Seigneur?

Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?

2 Et si pour d’autres je ne suis pas apôtre, je le suis cependant pour vous; car vous êtes le sceau de mon apostolat dans le Seigneur.

If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.

3 Ma défense contre ceux qui m’interrogent, la voici:

Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,

4 N’avons-nous pas le pouvoir de manger et de boire?

Have we not power to eat and to drink?

5 N’avons-nous pas le pouvoir de mener partout avec nous une femme sœur, de même que les autres apôtres et les frères du Seigneur, et Céphas?

Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and [as] the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

6 Ou moi seul et Barnabé, n’avons-nous pas le pouvoir de le faire?

Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?

7 Qui jamais fait la guerre à ses frais? Qui plante une vigne et ne mange pas de son fruit? Qui paît un troupeau et ne mange point du lait du troupeau?

Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

8 N’est-ce que selon l’homme que je dis ces choses? La loi-même ne les dit-elle pas?

Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?

9 Car il est écrit dans la loi de Moïse: Tu ne lieras pas la bouche au bœuf qui foule les grains? Est-ce que Dieu a souci des bœufs?

For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?

10 N’est-ce pas plutôt pour nous qu’il dit cela? Car c’est pour nous qu’il a été écrit, que celui qui laboure doit labourer dans l’espérance de recueillir, et celui qui bat le grain dans l’espérance d’y avoir part.

Or saith he [it] altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, [this] is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

11 Si nous avons semé en vous des biens spirituels, est-ce une grande chose que nous moissonnions de vos biens temporels?

If we have sown unto you spiritual things, [is it] a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?

12 Si d’autres usent de ce pouvoir à votre égard, pourquoi pas plutôt nous-mêmes? Cependant nous n’avons pas usé de ce pouvoir; au contraire, nous souffrons tout pour ne pas mettre d’obstacle à l’Evangile du Christ.

If others be partakers of [this] power over you, [are] not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

13 Ne savez-vous pas que les ministres du temple mangent de ce qui est offert dans le temple, et que ceux qui servent à l’autel ont part à l’autel?

Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live [of the things] of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?

14 Ainsi le Seigneur lui-même a prescrit à ceux qui annoncent l’Evangile de vivre de l’Evangile.

Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

15 Pour moi, je n’ai usé d’aucun de ces droits. Je n’écris donc pas ceci pour qu’on en use ainsi envers moi; car j’aimerais mieux mourir que de laisser quelqu’un m’enlever cette gloire.

But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for [it were] better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

16 Car si j’évangélise, la gloire n’en est pas à moi; ce m’est une nécessité, et malheur à moi, si je n’évangélise!

For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

17 Si je le fais de bon cœur, j’en aurai la récompense; mais si je ne le fais qu’à regret, je dispense seulement ce qui m’a été confié.

For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation [of the gospel] is committed unto me.

18 Quelle est donc ma récompense? C’est que, prêchant l’Evangile, je le prêche gratuitement, pour ne pas abuser de mon pouvoir dans l’Evangile.

What is my reward then? [Verily] that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

19 Aussi, lorsque j’étais libre à l’égard de tous, je me suis fais l’esclave de tous, pour en gagner un plus grand nombre.

For though I be free from all [men], yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

20 Je me suis fait comme Juif avec les Juifs, pour gagner les Juifs;

And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;

21 Avec ceux qui sont sous la loi, comme si j’eusse été sous la loi (quoique je ne fusse plus assujetti à la loi), pour gagner ceux qui étaient sous la loi; avec ceux qui étaient sans loi, comme si j’eusse été sans loi (quoique je ne fusse pas sans la loi de Dieu, mais que je fusse sous la loi du Christ), afin de gagner ceux qui étaient sans loi.

To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ, ) that I might gain them that are without law.

22 Je me suis rendu faible avec les faibles, pour gagner les faibles. Je me suis fait tout à tous, pour les sauver tous.

To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all [men], that I might by all means save some.

23 Ainsi, je fais toutes choses pour l’Evangile, afin d’y avoir part.

And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with [you].

24 Ne savez-vous pas que ceux qui courent dans la lice courent tous; mais qu’un seul remporte le prix? Courez donc de telle sorte que vous le remportiez.

Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

25 Tous ceux qui combattent dans l’arène s’abstiennent de toutes choses: eux, pour recevoir une couronne corruptible, nous, une incorruptible.

And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they [do it] to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26 Pour moi, je cours aussi, mais non comme au hasard; je combats, mais non comme frappant l’air;

I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

27 Mais je châtie mon corps, et le réduis en servitude, de peur qu’après avoir prêché aux autres je ne sois moi-même réprouvé.

But I keep under my body, and bring [it] into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
