Psaumes 104
1 Mon âme, bénis l'Éternel! Éternel, ô mon Dieu, tu es merveilleusement grand; Tu es revêtu de splendeur et de majesté.
Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.
2 L'Éternel s'enveloppe de lumière comme d'un manteau; Il déploie les cieux comme une tente.
Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:
3 Il construit au-dessus des eaux sa demeure inaccessible; Les nuages lui servent de char; Il s'avance sur les ailes du vent.
Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:
4 Il fait des vents ses messagers. Et des flammes de feu ses serviteurs.
Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
5 Il a posé la terre sur ses fondements: Elle ne sera jamais ébranlée.
Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.
6 Tu l'avais enveloppée de l'abîme comme d'un vêtement; Les eaux s'étaient arrêtées sur les montagnes:
Thou didst cover it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.
7 A ta menace, elles reculèrent! Au bruit de ton tonnerre, elles s'enfuirent épouvantées.
At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.
8 Les montagnes s'élevèrent et les vallées s'abaissèrent, A la place que tu leur avais assignée.
They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys to the place which thou hast founded for them.
9 Tu as fixé à la mer une limite qu'elle ne franchira pas Elle ne reviendra plus couvrir la terre.
Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.
10 Dieu envoie des sources dans les vallons, Et elles coulent entre les montagnes.
He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills.
11 Elles abreuvent toutes les bêtes des champs; Les ânes sauvages y étanchent leur soif.
They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 Les oiseaux du ciel habitent sur leurs bords, Et font retentir leurs chants dans le feuillage.
By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches.
13 Du haut de sa demeure, Dieu abreuve les montagnes; La terre se rassasie du fruit de ses oeuvres.
He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.
14 Il fait germer l'herbe pour le bétail, Et les plantes pour l'usage de l'homme, Qui tire ainsi de la terre sa nourriture:
He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;
15 Le vin qui réjouit le coeur de l'homme, Et qui, mieux que l'huile, fait resplendir son visage, Ainsi que le pain qui fortifie le coeur de l'homme.
And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man’s heart.
16 Les arbres de l'Éternel, les cèdres du Liban Qu'il a plantés, sont gonflés de sève.
The trees of the LORD are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;
17 Les oiseaux y bâtissent leurs nids; La cigogne fait des cyprès sa demeure.
Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house.
18 Les hautes montagnes sont l'asile des chamois, Et les rochers servent de retraite aux gerboises.
The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies.
19 L'Éternel a fait la lune pour marquer les temps, Ainsi que le soleil qui connaît l'heure de son déclin.
He appointeth the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.
20 Tu répands les ténèbres, et la nuit vient: Alors tous les animaux des forêts se mettent en mouvement.
Thou makest darkness, and it is night: in which all the beasts of the forest do creep forth.
21 Les jeunes lions rugissent après leur proie Et demandent à Dieu leur pâture.
The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their food from God.
22 Puis le soleil se lève: ils se retirent, Et vont se coucher dans leurs tanières.
The sun ariseth, they withdraw, and lay themselves down in their dens.
23 Alors l'homme sort, pour se rendre à son ouvrage Et se livrer à son travail jusqu'au soir.
Man goeth forth to his work and to his labour until the evening.
24 Éternel, combien tes oeuvres sont nombreuses! Tu les as toutes faites avec sagesse; La terre est pleine de tes richesses.
O LORD, how many are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.
25 Voici encore la grande et vaste mer! Là fourmillent, sans nombre. Des animaux petits et grands.
So is this great and wide sea, in which are creeping things innumerable, both small and great beasts.
26 Là se promènent les navires. Et ce monstre marin que tu as créé pour se jouer dans les flots,
There go the ships: there is that leviathan, which thou hast made to play in it.
27 Tous ces êtres attendent de toi Que tu leur donnes, en temps opportun, leur nourriture.
These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their food in due season.
28 Tu la leur donnes, et ils la recueillent; Tu ouvres ta main, et ils sont rassasiés de biens.
That which thou givest them they gather: thou openest thy hand, they are filled with good.
29 Si tu caches ta face, ils sont éperdus; Si tu leur retires le souffle, ils expirent Et retournent dans leur poussière.
Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.
30 S'ils reçoivent de nouveau ton souffle, ils revivent. Et tu renouvelles la face de la terre.
Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.
31 Que la gloire de l'Éternel dure à toujours! Que l'Éternel se réjouisse de ses oeuvres!
The glory of the LORD shall endure for ever: the LORD shall rejoice in his works.
32 Il regarde la terre, et la voilà qui tremble; Il touche les montagnes, et elles se couvrent de fumée.
He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke.
33 Je chanterai à la gloire de l'Éternel, tant que je vivrai; Je psalmodierai en l'honneur de mon Dieu, tant que j'existerai.
I will sing to the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
34 Puisse mon cantique lui être agréable! Je me réjouirai en l'Éternel.
My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.
35 Que les pécheurs disparaissent de la terre. Et que les méchants n'existent plus! Mon âme, bénis l'Éternel! Louez l'Éternel!
Let sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the LORD, O my soul. Praise ye the LORD.
