1 Quelques jours après, Jésus revint à Capernaüm, et l'on apprit qu'il était dans la maison.
And again he entered into Capernaum, after [some] days; and it was understood that he was in the house.
2 Il s'y assembla tant de monde, qu'il n'y avait plus de place même devant la porte; et il leur annonçait la parole.
And forthwith many were assembled, so that there was no room to receive [them], no not so much as about the door: and he preached the word to them.
3 Alors, il vint des gens qui lui amenaient un paralytique, porté par quatre hommes.
And they come to him, bringing one sick with the palsy, who was borne by four.
4 Mais, ne pouvant arriver jusqu'à lui à cause de la foule, ils découvrirent le toit au-dessus de l'endroit où il était; et, par l'ouverture, ils descendirent le lit sur lequel le paralytique était couché.
And when they could not come nigh to him by reason of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken [it] up, they let down the bed on which the sick with the palsy lay.
5 Jésus, voyant leur foi, dit au paralytique: Mon enfant, tes péchés te sont pardonnés.
When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the sick with the palsy, Son, thy sins are forgiven thee.
6 Or, il y avait là quelques scribes qui se tenaient assis, et ils faisaient ce raisonnement dans leur coeur:
But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
7 Pourquoi cet homme parle-t-il ainsi? Il blasphème! Qui peut pardonner les péchés, que Dieu seul?
Why doth this [man] thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
8 Aussitôt Jésus, ayant connu en son esprit qu'ils raisonnaient ainsi en eux-mêmes, leur dit: Pourquoi faites-vous ces raisonnements dans vos coeurs?
And immediately, when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said to them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
9 Lequel est le plus aisé, de dire au paralytique: Tes péchés te sont pardonnés. ou de dire: Lève-toi, prends ton lit, et marche?
Which is easier, to say to the sick with the palsy, [Thy] sins are forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
10 Or, — afin que vous sachiez que le Fils de l'homme a sur la terre le pouvoir de pardonner les péchés, —
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, he saith to the sick with the palsy,
11 je te l'ordonne, dit-il au paralytique, lève-toi, prends ton lit, et va dans ta maison.
I say to thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go into thy house.
12 Cet homme se leva, et aussitôt, ayant pris son lit, il sortit en présence de tout le monde; de sorte qu'ils étaient tous dans l'étonnement, et ils glorifiaient Dieu en disant: Nous n'avons jamais rien vu de pareil!
And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; so that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
13 Alors Jésus retourna du côté de la mer; tout le peuple venait à lui, et il les enseignait.
And he went forth again by the sea -[side]; and all the multitude resorted to him, and he taught them.
14 En passant, il vit Lévi, fils d'Alphée, assis au bureau du péage. Il lui dit: Suis-moi; et lui, se levant, le suivit.
And as he passed by, he saw Levi the [son] of Alpheus, sitting at the receipt of custom, and said to him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
15 Comme Jésus était à table dans la maison de Lévi, beaucoup de péagers et de pécheurs se mirent à table avec lui et ses disciples; car il y en avait beaucoup qui l'avaient suivi.
And it came to pass, that as Jesus sat at table in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples; for there were many, and they followed him.
16 Les scribes appartenant au parti des pharisiens, voyant qu'il mangeait avec des péagers et des pécheurs, disaient à ses disciples: Il mange avec des péagers et des pécheurs!
And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eating with publicans and sinners, they said to his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners.
17 Jésus, ayant entendu cela, leur dit: Ce ne sont pas ceux qui se portent bien qui ont besoin de médecin, mais ceux qui se portent mal. Je ne suis pas venu appeler les justes, mais les pécheurs.
When Jesus heard [it], he saith to them, They that are in health, have no need of a physician, but they that are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.
18 Or, les disciples de Jean et les pharisiens jeûnaient. Ils vinrent dire à Jésus: D'où vient que les disciples de Jean et ceux des pharisiens jeûnent, et que tes disciples ne jeûnent pas?
And the disciples of John, and of the Pharisees, used to fast: and they come, and say to him, Why do the disciples of John, and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
19 Jésus leur répondit: Les amis de l'époux peuvent-ils jeûner pendant que l'époux est avec eux? Tant qu'ils ont l'époux avec eux, ils ne peuvent jeûner.
And Jesus said to them, Can the children of the bride-chamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
20 Mais le temps viendra où l'époux leur sera ôté; alors ils jeûneront ce jour-là.
But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then they will fast in those days.
21 Personne ne coud une pièce de drap neuf à un vieux vêtement; autrement, la pièce neuve emporte une partie du vieux drap, et la déchirure en devient pire.
No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up, taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
22 Et personne ne met du vin nouveau dans de vieilles outres; autrement, le vin fait rompre les outres; le vin est perdu, et les outres aussi.
And no man putteth new wine into old bottles, else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.
23 Il arriva, comme Jésus passait par les blés un jour de sabbat, que ses disciples, chemin faisant, se mirent à arracher des épis.
And it came to pass, that he went through the corn-fields on the sabbath; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.
24 Alors les pharisiens lui dirent: Regarde! Pourquoi font-ils ce qui n'est pas permis le jour du sabbat?
And the Pharisees said to him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath that which is not lawful?
25 Il leur répondit: N'avez-vous jamais lu ce que fit David, lorsqu'il fut dans le besoin et qu'il eut faim, lui et ceux qui étaient avec lui;
And he said to them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was hungry, he and they that were with him?
26 comment il entra dans la maison de Dieu, du temps d'Abiathar, souverain sacrificateur, et mangea les pains de proposition — qu'il est permis aux sacrificateurs seuls de manger — et comment il en donna même à ceux qui étaient avec lui?
How he went into the house of God, in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the show-bread, which it is not lawful to eat, but for the priests, and gave also to them who were with him?
27 Puis Jésus ajouta: Le sabbat a été fait pour l'homme, et non pas l'homme pour le sabbat.
And he said to them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
28 Ainsi le Fils de l'homme est maître même du sabbat.
Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
