Hébreux 7

1 En effet, ce Melchisédec, roi de Salem, sacrificateur du Dieu Très-Haut, qui alla au-devant d'Abraham, lorsqu'il revenait de la défaite des rois, et qui le bénit;

For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

2 auquel Abraham donna la dîme de tout; qui, d'après la signification de son nom, était, premièrement roi de justice, et qui, de plus, était, roi de Salem, c'est-à-dire, roi de paix;

To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

3 sans père, sans mère, sans généalogie; qui n'a ni commencement de jours, ni fin de vie, et qui est ainsi rendu semblable au Fils de Dieu, — ce Melchisédec demeure sacrificateur à perpétuité.

Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like to the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

4 Considérez combien grand est celui à qui Abraham lui-même, le patriarche, donna une dîme prise sur le meilleur du butin.

Now consider how great this man [was], to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

5 Ceux des fils de Lévi qui reçoivent la sacrificature, ont, l'ordre, d'après la loi, de lever la dîme sur le peuple, c'est-à-dire sur leurs frères, qui pourtant sont issus eux-mêmes d'Abraham.

And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brethren, though they come from the loins of Abraham:

6 Mais lui, qui n'était pas de la même famille, reçut d'Abraham la dîme et bénit celui qui possédait les promesses.

But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes from Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.

7 Or, sans contredit, c'est l'inférieur qui est béni par le supérieur.

And without all contradiction the less is blessed by the better.

8 De plus, ici, ce sont des hommes mortels qui prélèvent la dîme; là, c'est celui au sujet duquel l'Écriture atteste qu'il est, vivant.

And here men that die receive tithes; but there he [receiveth them], of whom it is testified that he liveth.

9 Et l'on peut dire que ce Lévi, qui prélève la dîme, l'a payée lui-même dans la personne d'Abraham;

And as I may say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.

10 car il était encore dans les reins de son père, lorsque Melchisédec vint au-devant du patriarche.

For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

11 Si la perfection avait pu être atteinte par le sacerdoce lévitique — car la législation donnée au peuple a pour base ce sacerdoce, — qu'était-il encore besoin qu'il parût un autre sacrificateur, institué selon l'ordre de Melchisédec, et non selon l'ordre d'Aaron?

If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law) what further need [was there] that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

12 Le sacerdoce étant changé, il doit y avoir nécessairement, un changement de loi.

For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

13 En effet, celui à qui s'appliquent ces paroles appartient, à une autre tribu, dont aucun membre n'a été attaché au service de l'autel.

For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.

14 Car il est notoire que notre Seigneur est issu de Juda, tribu dont, Moïse n'a rien dit, en ce qui touche le sacerdoce.

For [it is] evident that our Lord sprang from Judah; of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

15 Tout cela devient encore plus évident, quand nous voyons s'élever, à la ressemblance de Melchisédec, un autre sacrificateur,

And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

16 établi non d'après la règle d'une ordonnance charnelle, mais par la puissance d'une vie impérissable.

Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

17 Voici, en effet, le témoignage qui lui est rendu: «Tu es sacrificateur pour l'éternité, selon l'ordre de Melchisédec.» (aiōn g165)

For he testifieth, Thou [art] a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. (aiōn g165)

18 Ainsi, l'ordonnance antérieure a été abolie à cause de son impuissance et de son inutilité.

For there is verily a disannulling of the preceding commandment on account of its weakness and unprofitableness.

19 En effet, la loi n'a rien amené à la perfection, et à sa place a été introduite une meilleure espérance, grâce à laquelle nous nous approchons de Dieu.

For the law made nothing perfect, but the introduction of a better hope [did]; by which we draw nigh to God.

20 De plus, ce changement ne s'est pas accompli sans serment.

And inasmuch as not without an oath [he was made priest]:

21 Les autres sacrificateurs furent institués sans serment; mais lui, il l'a été avec serment, par celui qui lui a dit: «Le Seigneur l'a juré, et il ne s'en repentira point: tu es sacrificateur pour l'éternité!» (aiōn g165)

(For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath, by him that said to him, The Lord swore, and will not repent, Thou [art] a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec: ) (aiōn g165)

22 Aussi Jésus est-il devenu le garant d'une alliance de beaucoup supérieure à la première.

By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

23 En outre, il y a eu un grand nombre de sacrificateurs, parce que la mort les empêchait de conserver toujours leurs fonctions.

And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

24 Mais lui, parce qu'il subsiste éternellement, possède le sacerdoce qui ne se transforme point. (aiōn g165)

But this [man], because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. (aiōn g165)

25 Et c'est pour cela qu'il peut sauver parfaitement ceux qui s'approchent de Dieu par lui, étant toujours vivant pour intercéder en leur faveur.

Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come to God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

26 C'était bien là le souverain sacrificateur qu'il nous fallait, saint, innocent, exempt de souillure, séparé des pécheurs, et élevé au-dessus des cieux.

For such a high priest became us, [who is] holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

27 Il n'a pas besoin, comme les autres souverains sacrificateurs, d'offrir tous les jours des sacrifices, d'abord pour ses propres péchés, ensuite pour ceux du peuple: il a fait cela une fois pour toutes, en s'offrant lui-même.

Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

28 Car la loi établit comme souverains sacrificateurs des hommes sujets à la faiblesse; mais la parole du serment qui a été fait après la loi, établit le Fils, qui est parvenu pour toujours à la perfection. (aiōn g165)

For the law maketh men high priests who have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was after the law, [maketh] the Son, who is consecrated for evermore. (aiōn g165)
