Actes 26
1 Alors Agrippa dit à Paul: Il t'est permis de parler pour ta défense. Paul, ayant étendu la main, se défendit ainsi:
Then Agrippa said to Paul, “Yoʋ have permission to speak for yoʋrself.” So Paul stretched out his hand and began to make his defense:
2 Roi Agrippa, je m'estime heureux d'avoir aujourd'hui à me disculper devant toi de tout ce dont les Juifs m'accusent,
“I consider myself fortunate that it is before yoʋ, King Agrippa, that I am about to make my defense today concerning all the things of which I am being accused by the Jews,
3 surtout parce que tu connais toutes les coutumes des Juifs et les questions sur lesquelles ils discutent. Je te prie donc de m'écouter patiemment.
especially since yoʋ are acquainted with all the customs and controversies of the Jews. Therefore I beg yoʋ to listen to me patiently.
4 Ma vie, telle qu'elle s'est écoulée dès les premiers temps de ma jeunesse, au sein de ma nation et à Jérusalem, est connue de tous les Juifs.
“All the Jews know about my manner of life from my youth up, which was spent from the beginning among my own nation in Jerusalem.
5 Ils savent depuis longtemps, s'ils veulent en rendre témoignage, que j 'ai vécu en pharisien, selon cette secte qui est la plus austère de notre religion.
They have known about me for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived as a Pharisee.
6 Et maintenant, je suis mis en jugement pour avoir espéré en la promesse faite par Dieu à nos pères,
And now I am standing trial because of my hope in the promise God made to our fathers,
7 promesse dont nos douze tribus, qui servent Dieu nuit et jour avec ferveur, attendent l'accomplissement. C'est pour cette espérance, ô roi, que je suis accusé par des Juifs.
a promise that our twelve tribes hope to attain as they earnestly serve him night and day. Regarding this hope, King Agrippa, I am being accused by the Jews.
8 Eh quoi! Jugez-vous incroyable que Dieu ressuscite les morts?
Why is it deemed unbelievable by you that God raises the dead?
9 Moi-même, il est vrai, j'avais cru qu'il fallait combattre par tous les moyens le nom de Jésus de Nazareth.
“Indeed, I myself was convinced that I ought to do many things against the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
10 C'est ce que j'ai fait à Jérusalem: j'ai jeté en prison plusieurs des saints, après en avoir reçu le pouvoir des principaux sacrificateurs; et lorsqu'on les faisait mourir, je donnais mon suffrage.
And that is just what I did in Jerusalem. I locked up many of the saints in prison by the authority I received from the chief priests, and when they were being put to death, I cast my vote against them.
11 Souvent même, allant d'une synagogue à l'autre, je sévissais contre eux pour les contraindre à blasphémer. J'étais tellement transporté de fureur contre eux, que je les persécutais jusque dans les villes étrangères.
I also punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to force them to blaspheme. And being furiously enraged against them, I pursued them even to foreign cities.
12 C'est ainsi que je me rendais à Damas, avec pleins pouvoirs et une autorisation des principaux sacrificateurs,
“While engaged in such things, I was on my way to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests,
13 lorsque, sur la route, je vis, ô roi, en plein midi, une lumière venant du ciel, plus éclatante que celle du soleil, et qui resplendit autour de moi et de ceux qui m'accompagnaient.
when at midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining around me and those who were traveling with me.
14 Nous tombâmes tous à terre, et j'entendis une voix qui me disait, en langue hébraïque: Saul, Saul, pourquoi me persécutes-tu? Il te serait dur de te regimber contre, l'aiguillon.
When we had all fallen down to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are yoʋ persecuting me? It is hard for yoʋ to kick against the goads.’
15 Je dis: Qui es-tu, Seigneur? Le Seigneur me répondit: Je suis Jésus, que tu persécutes.
I said, ‘Who are yoʋ, Lord?’ He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom yoʋ are persecuting.
16 Mais relève-toi, et tiens-toi debout; car je te suis apparu pour t'établir ministre et témoin des choses que tu as vues, et de celles pour lesquelles je t'apparaîtrai encore.
But rise and stand on yoʋr feet, for I have appeared to yoʋ for this purpose, to appoint yoʋ as a servant and witness to the things yoʋ have seen and to the things in which I will appear to yoʋ.
17 Je te protégerai contre ce peuple et contre les Païens vers lesquels je t'envoie,
I will rescue yoʋ from yoʋr own people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending yoʋ
18 pour leur ouvrir les yeux, afin qu'ils passent des ténèbres à la lumière et de la puissance de Satan à Dieu, et qu'ils obtiennent, par la foi en moi, la rémission des péchés et leur part d'héritage avec ceux qui ont été sanctifiés.
to open their eyes so that they may turn away from darkness to light, and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive remission of sins and an allotment among those who have been sanctified by faith in me.’
19 Dès lors, roi Agrippa, je ne résistai point à la vision céleste;
“Consequently, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,
20 mais j'exhortai d'abord les habitants de Damas, ensuite ceux de Jérusalem et de toute la Judée, puis les Païens, à se repentir et à se convertir à Dieu, en faisant des oeuvres dignes de la repentance.
but first to those in Damascus and then to those in Jerusalem, to all the region of Judea and to the Gentiles, I proclaimed that they should repent and turn to God, doing works consistent with repentance.
21 Voilà pourquoi les Juifs, m'ayant saisi dans le temple, se sont efforcés de me tuer.
That is why the Jews seized me in the temple courts and were trying to kill me.
22 Grâce à la protection de Dieu, j'ai subsisté jusqu'à aujourd'hui, rendant témoignage devant les petits et devant les grands, ne disant rien d'autre que ce que les prophètes et Moïse ont prédit devoir arriver,
But having obtained help from God, I stand to this day testifying to both small and great, saying nothing except what the Prophets and Moses said would take place:
23 savoir, que le Christ devait souffrir, et qu'étant le premier ressuscité des morts, il devait annoncer la lumière au peuple et aux Païens.
that the Christ would suffer and that, as the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light to our people and to the Gentiles.”
24 Comme Paul parlait ainsi pour sa défense, Festus dit d'une voix forte: Tu as perdu le sens, Paul! Ton grand savoir te met hors de sens.
As Paul was saying these things in his own defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Yoʋ are out of yoʋr mind, Paul. Too much learning is driving yoʋ insane!”
25 Paul reprit: Je n'ai pas perdu le sens, excellent Festus; ce sont des paroles de vérité et de raison que je prononce.
But Paul said, “I am not out of my mind, most excellent Festus, but I am speaking words of truth and good sense.
26 Le roi est bien informé de ces faits; voilà pourquoi je lui parle avec confiance, car je suis persuadé qu'il n'en ignore aucun. Tout cela ne s'est pas fait en cachette.
For the king knows about these things, to whom I am speaking boldly. I am convinced that none of these things has escaped his notice at all, for this has not been done in a corner.
27 Roi Agrippa, crois-tu aux prophètes? Je sais que tu y crois!
Do yoʋ believe the Prophets, King Agrippa? I know that yoʋ believe.”
28 Agrippa répondit à Paul: Tu vas bientôt me persuader de devenir chrétien!
Agrippa said to Paul, “Do yoʋ think yoʋ can persuade me to become a Christian so quickly?”
29 Paul reprit: Plût à Dieu que, tôt ou tard, non seulement toi, mais tous ceux qui m'écoutent aujourd'hui, vous devinssiez tels que je suis, à l'exception de ces liens!
Paul said, “Whether quickly or not, I pray to God that not only yoʋ but also all who are listening to me today would become as I am, except for these chains.”
30 Alors le roi se leva, ainsi que le gouverneur, Bérénice, et ceux qui étaient assis avec eux.
After Paul said these things, the king stood up, along with the governor, Bernice, and those who were sitting with them.
31 Puis s'étant retirés, ils se disaient entre eux: Il n'y a, dans la conduite de cet homme, rien qui mérite la mort ou la prison.
After leaving the room, they began saying to one another, “This man is doing nothing that deserves death or imprisonment.”
32 Agrippa dit à Festus: Cet homme aurait pu être relâché, s'il n'en eût appelé à César.
And Agrippa said to Festus, “This man could have been released if he had not appealed to Caesar.”
