Luc 11
1 Quelque part, un jour, Jésus était en prière. Quand il eut fini, l'un de ses disciples lui dit: «Seigneur, enseigne-nous à prier, de même que Jean l'a enseigné à ses disciples.»
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
2 Il leur répondit: «Quand vous priez, dites: «Père, que ton nom soit sanctifié!» «Que ton Règne vienne!»
So he said to them, “When you pray, say, ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be yoʋr name. Yoʋr kingdom come. Yoʋr will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
3 «Donne-nous chaque jour notre pain quotidien!»
Give us each day our daily bread.
4 «Et remets-nous nos péchés, car nous-mêmes nous faisons remise à quiconque nous doit.» «Et ne nous induis pas en tentation.»
And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.’”
5 Il leur dit encore: «Je suppose que l'un de vous ait un ami et qu'au milieu de la nuit il aille le trouver pour lui dire: «Ami, prête-moi trois pains,
Then he said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and yoʋ go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves,
6 car voilà un de mes amis qui m'arrive de voyage, et je n'ai rien à lui offrir.»
for a friend on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him,’
7 De l'intérieur, l'autre lui répond: «Ne m'importune pas, ma porte est déjà fermée, mes enfants sont couchés comme moi; je ne puis me lever pour te donner quoi que ce soit.»
and he answers from inside and says, ‘Do not bother me! The door is already shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up to give yoʋ anything.’
8 Eh bien, je vous le déclare, — quand même il ne se lèverait ni ne lui donnerait rien en tant qu'ami, — il se lèvera du moins à cause de son insistance importune, et lui donnera ce dont il a besoin.
I tell you, even if he will not get up and give yoʋ anything because yoʋ are his friend, yet because of yoʋr shameless persistence, he will get up and give yoʋ as much as yoʋ need.
9 Et moi aussi je vous dis: Demandez et il vous sera donné; cherchez et vous trouverez; frappez et il vous sera ouvert;
So I tell you: Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
10 car quiconque demande reçoit; et qui cherche trouve; et à celui qui frappe on ouvrira.
For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
11 Est-il un père parmi vous, quand son fils lui demandera du pain, qui lui donnera une pierre! ou du poisson et qui, au lieu de poisson, lui donnera un serpent!
Now what father among you, when his son asks for bread, will give him a stone; or again, when he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent instead of a fish;
12 Quand son fils lui demandera un oeuf, lui donnera-t-il un scorpion!
or again, if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
13 Si donc, tout mauvais que vous êtes, vous savez donner de bonnes choses à vos enfants, combien plus votre Père, qui donne du ciel, donnera-t-il l'Esprit saint à ceux qui le lui demandent!»
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
14 Un jour il chassait un démon, un démon muet. Il arriva que le démon étant sorti, l'homme muet parla; et les multitudes étaient dans l'admiration.
Now Jesus was casting out a demon that made a certain man mute. When the demon came out, the mute man began to speak, and the crowds were amazed.
15 Cependant quelques-uns des assistants dirent: «C'est par Béelzeboul, le prince des démons, qu'il chasse les démons.»
But some of them said, “By Beelzebul, the ruler of demons, he casts out demons.”
16 D'autres, pour le mettre à l'épreuve, lui demandèrent un signe qui vînt du ciel.
Others were asking him for a sign from heaven, to test him.
17 Mais Jésus, connaissant leurs pensées, leur dit: «Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même tombe en ruines, et ses maisons s'écroulent l'une sur l'autre.
Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a house divided against itself falls.
18 Si donc Satan est divisé contre lui-même, comment son royaume subsistera-t-il? Vous dites que c'est par Beelzéboul que je chasse les démons:
So if Satan is also divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.
19 mais si, moi, je chasse les démons par Beelzeboul, par qui vos fils les chassent-ils? C'est pourquoi ils seront eux-mêmes vos juges!
Now if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your followers cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.
20 Si, au contraire, c'est par le doigt de Dieu que je chasse les démons, le Royaume de Dieu est donc venu jusqu'à vous.»
But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
21 «Lorsque le guerrier, armes en main, garde l'entrée de sa demeure, ce qu'il possède est en sûreté.
When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his possessions are secure.
22 Mais s'il survient un guerrier, supérieur en forces, qui le terrasse, il lui arrache cette armure dans laquelle il se confiait, et il jette çà et là ses dépouilles.»
But when a stronger man attacks and overpowers him, he takes away all the armor in which the man trusted and then distributes the plunder.
23 «Qui n'est point avec moi est contre moi, et qui n'amasse point avec moi, disperse.»
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
24 Lorsque l'Esprit impur est sorti d'un homme, il erre par des lieux arides, cherchant du repos et n'en trouvant pas, il dit: «Je retournerai dans ma maison, d'où je suis parti.
“When an unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it goes through waterless places seeking rest. But when it does not find any, it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’
25 Il y revient et la trouve nettoyée et parée.
When it arrives, it finds the house swept and put in order.
26 Là-dessus il va prendre sept autres Esprits plus méchants que lui-même; ils y pénètrent et y demeurent. Et le dernier état de cet homme devient pire que le premier.»
Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go and dwell there, and the last state of that person becomes worse than the first.”
27 Pendant qu'il parlait ainsi, du milieu de la foule, une femme éleva la voix: «Heureuses, dit-elle, les entrailles qui te portèrent, heureux le sein qui t'allaita!»
As Jesus was saying these things, a woman from among the crowd lifted up her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore yoʋ, and the breasts at which yoʋ nursed.”
28 Mais lui, il dit: «Heureux plutôt ceux qui écoutent la Parole de Dieu et qui la gardent!»
But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
29 Comme le peuple s'amassait en foule, il se mit à dire: «Cette génération est une mauvaise génération! elle demande un signe et nul signe ne lui sera donné, sinon le signe de Jonas.»
Now as the crowds were increasing, Jesus began to say, “This generation is evil. It asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet.
30 «De même, en effet, que Jonas devint un signe pour les Ninivites, de même, pour cette génération-ci, en sera-t-il du Fils de l'homme.
For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation.
31 Lors du jugement, la reine du Midi se lèvera, avec les hommes de cette génération, et les condamnera, car cette reine vint des extrémités de la terre pour écouter la sagesse de Salomon; et voici, sous vos yeux, plus que Salomon!
The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.
32 Lors du jugement les hommes de Ninive se lèveront avec cette génération et la condamneront; car eux, ils se repentirent à la prédication de Jonas; et voici, sous vos yeux, plus que Jonas!»
The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.
33 «Personne n'allume une lampe pour la cacher ou la mettre sous le boisseau, mais on la met sur le pied-de-lampe, afin que ceux qui entrent voient la lumière.
“No one lights a lamp and puts it in a hidden place or under a basket. Instead, it is put on a lampstand, so that those who come in may see its light.
34 «La lampe de ton corps, c'est ton oeil. Quand ton oeil n'a rien qui le trouble, ton corps entier est dans la lumière; si ton oeil est en mauvais état, ton corps est dans les ténèbres.
The lamp of the body is the eye. So when yoʋr eye is clear, yoʋr whole body is full of light. But when yoʋr eye is bad, yoʋr body is full of darkness.
35 Veille en conséquence à ce que la lumière qui est en toi ne soit point ténèbres.
Therefore make sure that the light within yoʋ is not darkness.
36 Et si ton corps entier est dans la lumière, sans aucune partie dans les ténèbres, tout sera, pour toi, dans la lumière, comme lorsque rayonne sur toi la clarté d'une lampe.»
If then yoʋr whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be entirely light, like when a lamp gives yoʋ light with its rays.”
37 Il parlait encore lorsqu'un Pharisien le pria de venir manger chez lui; il entra et se mit à table.
As Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee invited him to have a meal with him, so Jesus went in and reclined at the table.
38 Le Pharisien remarqua avec surprise qu'il n'avait pratiqué aucune ablution avant le repas.
The Pharisee was amazed when he saw that Jesus did not first perform the ritual washing before the meal.
39 Le Seigneur lui dit alors: «Aujourd'hui, vous autres Pharisiens, vous purifiez le dehors de la coupe et du plat, quand le dedans intime de vous-mêmes est plein de rapines et d'iniquités!
So the Lord said to him, “You Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and the platter, but inside you are full of plunder and evil.
40 Insensés! est-ce que celui qui a fait le dehors n'a pas fait aussi le dedans?
You fools! Did not he who made the outside also make the inside?
41 Donnez plutôt en aumônes le contenu des coupes et des plats; et aussitôt tout vous sera pur.»
But give as alms the things that are on the inside, and behold, everything will be clean for you.
42 «Mais malheur à vous, les Pharisiens, parce que vous acquittez la dîme et de la menthe, et de la rue, et de toute espèce de légumes, et que vous négligez la justice et l'amour de Dieu. Ce qu'il fallait, c'est faire ces choses, sans omettre les autres!»
“But woe to you, Pharisees! For you tithe mint, rue, and every herb, yet you ignore justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done without neglecting the others.
43 «Malheur à vous, les Pharisiens, parce que vous aimez, dans les synagogues les premiers sièges, sur les places publiques les salutations!»
Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.
44 «Malheur à vous, parce que vous êtes comme les sépulcres dissimulés aux regards, et sur lesquels on marche sans le savoir!»
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like unmarked graves, which people walk over without realizing it.”
45 Là-dessus, un des légistes lui dit: «Maître, en parlant ainsi, tu nous fais injure à nous aussi.»
In response one of the lawyers said to him, “Teacher, by saying these things, yoʋ insult us as well.”
46 Jésus reprit alors: «A vous aussi, les légistes, malheur! parce que vous chargez les hommes de fardeaux insupportables, et vous-mêmes vous ne touchez pas ces fardeaux du bout du doigt!»
But Jesus said, “Woe to you lawyers as well! For you burden people with burdens that are hard to bear, but you yourselves do not touch the burdens with even one of your fingers.
47 «Malheur à vous, parce que vous élevez des tombeaux aux prophètes que vos pères ont tués;
Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, but it was your fathers who killed them.
48 donc, vous êtes témoins, et vous approuvez les oeuvres de vos pères: eux, ils ont commis les meurtres, vous, vous élevez les tombeaux.
So you bear witness to and approve of the works of your fathers, for they killed the prophets, and you build their tombs.
49 Voilà aussi pourquoi la sagesse de Dieu a dit: Je leur enverrai prophètes et apôtres; les uns ils les tueront, les autres ils les persécuteront,
That is why the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and some of whom they will persecute.’
50 afin qu'à cette génération il soit demandé compte du sang de tous les prophètes, répandu depuis la création du monde,
As a result, this generation will be held accountable for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed from the foundation of the world,
51 à partir du sang d'Abel jusqu'au sang de Zaccharie égorgé entre l'autel et le sanctuaire; oui, je vous le déclare, c'est à cette génération qu’il en sera demandé compte.
from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the house of God. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held accountable.
52 Malheur à vous, les légistes, parce que vous avez pris la clef de la science! Vous-mêmes vous n'êtes pas entrés, et ceux qui venaient pour entrer, vous les en avez empêchés!»
Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves have not entered, and you have hindered those who were trying to enter.”
53 Quand il fut sorti de là, les Scribes et les Pharisiens entreprirent de le harceler de toutes leurs forces, de le faire parler sur toutes sortes de sujets,
As he was saying these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him fiercely and to question him closely about many things,
54 en lui tendant des pièges et en cherchant à surprendre quelqu'une de ses paroles.
lying in wait for him and seeking to catch him in some word coming out of his mouth, so that they might accuse him.
