1 «Je vous parle ainsi pour vous préserver de toute chute.
These things have I spoken unto you, that all of you should not be offended.
2 On vous expulsera des synagogues; et même elle approche, l'heure où tous ceux qui vous mettront à mort croiront rendre un culte à Dieu.
They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time comes, that whosoever kills you will think that he does God service.
3 Ils feront cela parce qu'ils n'auront connu ni le Père, ni moi.
And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
4 Je vous parle ainsi pour que, leur moment venu, vous vous souveniez que je vous ai dit ces choses; je ne vous les ai pas dites dès le commencement parce que j'étais avec vous.»
But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, all of you may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.
5 «Maintenant je m'en vais auprès de Celui qui m'a envoyé et aucun de vous ne me demande: «Où vas-tu?»
But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asks me, Where go you?
6 mais parce que je vous ai ainsi parlé votre coeur s'est rempli de tristesse.
But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow has filled your heart.
7 Cependant, c'est la vérité que je dis, il est bon pour vous que je m'en aille; car, si je ne m'en vais, le Conseiller ne viendra pas vers vous. Si je m'en vais, je vous l'enverrai.
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 Et quand il sera venu, il convaincra le monde en ce qui concerne le péché, la justice et le jugement:
And when he has come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 le péché en tant qu'ils ne croient pas en moi;
Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 la justice en tant que je m'en vais auprès du Père, et que vous ne me verrez plus;
Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and all of you see me no more;
11 le jugement en tant que le Prince de ce monde est il jugé.»
Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 «J'ai encore beaucoup de choses à vous dire; mais vous ne les pouvez pas encore porter;
I have yet many things to say unto you, but all of you cannot bear them now.
13 quand il sera venu, lui, l'Esprit de vérité, il vous dirigera dans toute la vérité, car il ne parlera pas de son propre fonds, mais tout ce qu'il aura entendu il le dira et il vous annoncera l'avenir.
Nevertheless when he, the Spirit (pneuma) of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.
14 C'est lui qui me glorifiera, parce qu'il prendra de ce qui est à moi et il vous l'annoncera.
He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.
15 Tout ce qu'a le Père est aussi à moi; voilà pourquoi je vous dis: «Il prend de ce qui est à moi, et il vous l'annoncera.»
All things that the Father has are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.
16 «Encore un peu de temps, et vous ne me verrez plus, puis encore un peu de temps, et vous me verrez.»
A little while, and all of you shall not see me: and again, a little while, and all of you shall see me, because I go to the Father.
17 Alors quelques-uns de ses disciples se demandèrent l'un à l'autre: «Qu'est-ce qu'il nous dit: «Encore un peu de temps, et vous ne me verrez pas, puis encore un peu de temps, et vous me verrez»; et: «je m'en vais auprès du Père». —
Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he says unto us, A little while, and all of you shall not see me: and again, a little while, and all of you shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
18 Que signifient, disaient-ils, ces mots: «Un peu de temps». Nous ne savons de quoi il parle.»
They said therefore, What is this that he says, A little while? we cannot tell what he says.
19 Jésus comprit qu'ils désiraient l'interroger, et il leur dit: «Vous vous demandez l'un à l'autre ce que j'ai voulu dire par ces mots: «Encore un peu de temps, et vous ne me verrez pas, puis encore un peu de temps, et vous me verrez.»
Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do all of you enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and all of you shall not see me: and again, a little while, and all of you shall see me?
20 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous, vous pleurerez et vous gémirez; quant au monde, il se réjouira. Vous, vous serez dans la douleur; mais votre douleur sera changée en joie.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, That all of you shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and all of you shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
21 La femme passe par la douleur pendant qu'elle enfante, parce que, pour elle, l'heure est venue. Mais quand l'enfant est né, elle oublie son angoisse, tant est grande sa joie d'avoir mis un homme au monde.
A woman when she is in travail has sorrow, because her hour has come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
22 Vous, de même, vous passez maintenant par la douleur; mais je vous reverrai, et votre coeur se réjouira, et nul ne vous ravira votre joie.
And all of you now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man takes from you.
23 Et, en ce jour-là, vous ne m'interrogerez plus sur rien.» «En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, si vous demandez quelque chose au Père en mon nom, il vous le donnera.
And in that day all of you shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever all of you shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
24 Jusqu'ici vous n'avez rien demandé en mon nom. Demandez et vous recevrez afin que votre joie soit dans sa plénitude.»
Until now have all of you asked nothing in my name: ask, and all of you shall receive, that your joy may be full.
25 Je vous ai parlé de ces choses en termes figurés; il vient une heure où je ne vous parlerai plus en termes figurés, mais où je vous communiquerai clairement ce qui concerne le Père.
These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time comes, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly of the Father.
26 En ce jour-là vous demanderez en mon nom, et je ne vous dis pas que je prierai le Père pour vous,
At that day all of you shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
27 car le Père lui-même vous aime, parce que vous m'avez aimé, et que vous avez cru que je suis issu du Père.
For the Father himself loves you, because all of you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
28 Je suis issu du Père, et je suis venu dans le monde; maintenant je quitte le monde, et je vais auprès du Père.»
I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
29 C'est maintenant, dirent les disciples, que tu parles clairement, que tu n'emploies pas de termes figurés.
His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speak you plainly, and speak no proverb.
30 C'est maintenant que nous voyons que tu sais toutes choses, et que tu n'as besoin d'être interrogé par personne. Voilà pourquoi nous croyons que tu es issu de Dieu.»
Now are we sure that you know all things, and need not that any man should ask you: by this we believe that you came forth from God.
31 «Vous croyez pour le moment, leur répondit Jésus;
Jesus answered them, Do all of you now believe?
32 mais il vient une heure, elle est même déjà venue, où vous vous disperserez chacun de son côté, et où vous me laisserez seul. Mais je ne suis pas seul parce que le Père est avec moi.
Behold, the hour comes, yea, is now come, that all of you shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33 Je vous ai ainsi parlé afin que vous ayez la paix en moi; dans le monde, vous passez par l'angoisse; mais prenez courage, j'ai vaincu le monde.»
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me all of you might have peace. In the world all of you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
