1 Corinthiens 10

1 Je ne veux pas vous laisser ignorer, frères, que nos pères ont tous été sous la nuée, qu'ils ont tous passé à travers la mer,

Moreover, brothers, I would not that you should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

2 que tous, en Moïse, ont reçu le baptême dans la nuée et dans la mer,

And were all baptized to Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

3 que tous ont mangé du même aliment spirituel,

And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

4 que tous ont bu du même breuvage spirituel (en effet ils buvaient à un rocher spirituel qui les suivait, ce rocher c'était le Christ).

And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

5 Cependant la plupart d'entre eux ne furent point agréables à Dieu, puisque le désert était jonché de leurs corps.

But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

6 Ces événements sont des figures prophétiques pour nous afin que nous ne convoitions point le mal, comme eux l'ont convoité.

Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

7 Ne devenez pas idolâtres comme quelques-uns d'entre eux, ainsi qu'il est écrit: «Le peuple s'assit pour manger et boire et ils se levèrent pour danser.»

Neither be you idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

8 Ne vous adonnez pas à l'impureté, comme quelques-uns d'entre eux s'y sont adonnés, et, en un seul jour, il en tomba vingt-trois mille.

Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

9 Ne tentez pas le Seigneur, comme quelques-uns d'entre eux l'ont tenté, et les serpents les firent périr;

Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

10 ne murmurez pas comme quelques-uns d'entre eux, ont murmuré et l'exterminateur les fit périr.

Neither murmur you, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

11 Ces événements sont des figures prophétiques, ils ont été écrits pour notre instruction à nous qui vivons à la fin du monde. (aiōn g165)

Now all these things happened to them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the world are come. (aiōn g165)

12 Que celui donc qui croit être debout, prenne garde de tomber!

Why let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

13 Vous n'avez été exposés à aucune épreuve surhumaine, et Dieu est fidèle, il ne permettra pas que vous soyez éprouvés au delà de vos forces, mais, avec l'épreuve, il vous enverra le moyen d'en sortir et de pouvoir la supporter.

There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

14 Pour ces raisons, mes biens- aimés, fuyez l'idolâtrie.

Why, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

15 Je vous parle comme à des personnes raisonnables, jugez vous-mêmes de ce que je dis.

I speak as to wise men; judge you what I say.

16 La coupe de bénédiction que nous bénissons n'est-elle pas une communion avec le sang du Christ? Le pain que nous rompons n'est-il pas une communion avec le corps du Christ?

The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

17 Il n'y a qu'un seul pain; de même, si nombreux que nous soyons, nous ne formons qu'un seul corps; car tous nous avons notre part de ce seul pain.

For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

18 Voyez chez le peuple d'Israël; ceux qui mangent des victimes sacrifiées sont, n'est-ce pas, en communion avec l'autel?

Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?

19 Que veux-je dire? que la viande sacrifiée aux idoles ait quelque valeur?

What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?

20 que l'idole ait quelque valeur? Certes non, mais les sacrifices des païens «Sont faits aux démons et non à Dieu», et je ne veux pas que vous soyez en communion avec les démons.

But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that you should have fellowship with devils.

21 Vous ne pouvez pas boire à la fois à la coupe du Seigneur et à la coupe des démons; vous ne pouvez prendre part à la table du Seigneur et à la table des démons.

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: you cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

22 Voudrions-nous irriter le Seigneur? Sommes-nous plus forts que lui?

Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

23 «Tout est permis», mais tout n'est pas opportun; «tout est permis», mais tout n'édifie pas.

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

24 Que personne ne cherche son propre intérêt, mais celui d'autrui.

Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.

25 Tout ce qu'on vend à la boucherie, mangez-le sans faire d'enquête par motif de conscience,

Whatever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:

26 car «La terre et tout ce qu'elle contient sont au Seigneur».

For the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.

27 Si un des païens vous invite et que vous vouliez y aller, tout ce qui vous est offert, mangez-le sans faire d'enquête par motif de conscience.

If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and you be disposed to go; whatever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.

28 Mais si quelqu'un vous dit: «Ceci a été offert en sacrifice », alors n'en mangez pas à cause de celui qui vous avertit, et aussi à cause de la conscience:

But if any man say to you, This is offered in sacrifice to idols, eat not for his sake that showed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof:

29 la conscience, dis-je, non la vôtre, mais celle d'autrui. — Mais pourquoi ma liberté serait-elle critiquée par une autre conscience que par la mienne?

Conscience, I say, not your own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man’s conscience?

30 Si je mange avec actions de grâces, pourquoi serais-je blâmé pour une chose dont je rends grâces?

For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?

31 — Soit donc que vous mangiez, que vous buviez, que vous fassiez quoi que ce soit, faites tout à la gloire de Dieu.

Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

32 Ne scandalisez ni les Juifs, ni les Grecs, ni l'Église de Dieu;

Give none offense, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

33 comme moi qui, en tout, m'accommode à tout le monde, ne cherchant pas ce qui m'est agréable à moi, mais ce qui l'est au plus grand nombre, afin qu'ils soient sauvés.

Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.
