Proverbes 5
1 Mon fils, fais attention à ma sagesse, et prête l'oreille à ma prudence,
My son, attend unto my wisdom, [and] bow thine ear to my understanding:
2 pour garder les bonnes pensées, et conserver le jugement sur tes lèvres,
That thou mayest regard discretion, and [that] thy lips may keep knowledge.
3 Car les lèvres de l'étrangère distillent du miel, et son palais est plus onctueux que l'huile;
For the lips of a strange woman drop [as] an honeycomb, and her mouth [is] smoother than oil:
4 mais sa fin est plus amère que l'absinthe, elle est aiguë comme l'épée à deux tranchants.
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. (Sheol h7585)
6 Pour que tu ne prennes point garde au chemin de la vie, ses voies s'égarent, et tu ne le sais pas.
Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, [that] thou canst not know [them].
7 Et maintenant, mes fils, écoutez-moi, et ne vous écartez pas des paroles de ma bouche.
Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8 Prends ta route loin d'elle, et ne t'approche pas de la porte de sa maison,
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9 pour que tu ne livres pas à d'autres la fleur de tes jours, ni tes années à l'homme cruel;
Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10 pour que des étrangers ne se rassasient pas de ton bien, et que le fruit de ton labeur n'aille pas en maison étrangère;
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours [be] in the house of a stranger;
11 pour que tu n'aies pas à gémir sur ta fin, quand ta chair et ton corps auront dépéri,
And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 disant: Comment ai-je pu haïr la discipline? comment mon cœur a-t-il repoussé la correction?
And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13 et n'écoutai-je point la voix de mes maîtres, et ne prêtai-je point l'oreille à mes instituteurs?
And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14 Peu s'en faut que je ne sois tombé dans tous les maux au milieu du peuple et de l'assemblée.
I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15 Bois l'eau de ta citerne, et celle qui coule de ta fontaine:
Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 sinon tes sources se répandront au dehors, et comme des ruisseaux couleront sur les places;
Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, [and] rivers of waters in the streets.
17 ils seront pour toi seul, et non pour des étrangers en même temps que pour toi.
Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee.
18 Que ta source soit bénie, et fais ton bonheur de la femme de ta jeunesse,
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 biche aimable, gazelle gracieuse: que son sein t'enivre toujours, et de son amour sois constamment épris!
[Let her be as] the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20 Et pourquoi t'éprendrais-tu, mon fils, d'une étrangère, et embrasserais-tu le sein d'une inconnue?
And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 Car les voies de l'homme sont découvertes devant Dieu, et Il observe tous ses sentiers.
For the ways of man [are] before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
22 L'impie se prend dans ses propres péchés, et il est retenu par les lacs de son iniquité.
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
23 Il mourra faute de discipline, et sa grande folie lui donnera le vertige.
He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
