Proverbes 29
1 L'homme répréhensible qui se roidit, sera brisé soudain, et sans remède.
A man that hardeneth his necke when he is rebuked, shall suddenly be destroyed and can not be cured.
2 Quand les justes se multiplient, le peuple se réjouit; mais quand règne l'impie, le peuple gémit.
When the righteous are in authoritie, the people reioyce: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people sigh.
3 L'homme, ami de la sagesse, réjouit son père, mais qui se plaît avec les courtisanes, perd son bien.
A man that loueth wisdome, reioyceth his father: but he that feedeth harlots, wasteth his substance.
4 Par la justice un roi consolide son Etat; mais celui qui accepte des dons, le ruine.
A King by iudgement mainteineth ye countrey: but a man receiuing giftes, destroyeth it.
5 Un homme qui flatte son prochain, tend un filet sous ses pas.
A man that flattereth his neighbour, spreadeth a net for his steps.
6 Un piège gît dans le crime du méchant; mais le juste triomphe, et se réjouit.
In the transgression of an euill man is his snare: but the righteous doeth sing and reioyce.
7 Le juste sait défendre les petits, mais l'impie ne comprend pas la science.
The righteous knoweth the cause of the poore: but the wicked regardeth not knowledge.
8 Les moqueurs soufflent le feu dans la cité; mais les sages calment l'irritation.
Scornefull men bring a citie into a snare: but wise men turne away wrath.
9 Le juste qui est en dispute avec l'insensé, ni par la colère, ni par l'enjouement n'arrive à la paix.
If a wise man contend with a foolish man, whether he be angry or laugh, there is no rest.
10 Les hommes sanguinaires haïssent l'innocent; mais les justes cherchent à lui sauver la vie.
Bloodie men hate him that is vpright: but the iust haue care of his soule.
11 L'insensé produit son âme tout entière; mais le sage la tient en arrière.
A foole powreth out all his minde: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterward.
12 Qu'un prince écoute les mensonges, tous ses serviteurs sont méchants.
Of a prince that hearkeneth to lyes, all his seruants are wicked.
13 Le pauvre et l'oppresseur se rencontrent; l'Éternel fait luire la lumière aux yeux de tous deux.
The poore and the vsurer meete together, and the Lord lighteneth both their eyes.
14 Du roi qui rend au pauvre fidèle justice, le trône subsiste éternellement.
A King that iudgeth the poore in trueth, his throne shalbe established for euer.
15 La verge et la correction donnent la sagesse; mais l'enfant livré à lui-même fait honte à sa mère.
The rodde and correction giue wisdome: but a childe set a libertie, maketh his mother ashamed.
16 Quand les impies croissent, le péché croît; mais leur chute réjouira les regards des justes.
When the wicked are increased, transgression increaseth: but ye righteous shall see their fall.
17 Corrige ton fils, et il te donnera du repos, et procurera des délices à ton âme.
Correct thy sonne and he will giue thee rest, and will giue pleasures to thy soule.
18 Privé de révélation, un peuple est sans frein; heureux, s'il garde la Loi!
Where there is no vision, the people decay: but he that keepeth the Lawe, is blessed.
19 Les discours ne corrigent point un serviteur; quand même il comprend, il n'obéit point.
A seruant will not be chastised with words: though he vnderstand, yet he will not answere.
20 Vois-tu cet homme prompt à parler? Il y a plus à espérer d'un fou que de lui.
Seest thou a man hastie in his matters? there is more hope of a foole, then of him.
21 Si l'on délicate son serviteur dès l'enfance, il finit par vouloir être fils.
He that delicately bringeth vp his seruant from youth, at length he will be euen as his sone.
22 L'homme colère excite les querelles, et celui qui s'échauffe, fait bien des fautes.
An angrie man stirreth vp strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
23 L'orgueil de l'homme l'abaisse; mais l'humble parvient à la gloire.
The pride of a man shall bring him lowe: but the humble in spirit shall enioy glory.
24 Qui entre en part avec le voleur, est son propre ennemi; il a entendu la malédiction, et il ne dénonce pas!
He that is partner with a thiefe, hateth his owne soule: he heareth cursing, and declareth it not.
25 La peur des hommes tend un piège; mais qui se confie dans l'Éternel, est mis à couvert.
The feare of man bringeth a snare: but he that trusteth in the Lord, shalbe exalted.
26 Plusieurs cherchent les regards du souverain; mais de l'Éternel émane le jugement des hommes.
Many doe seeke the face of the ruler: but euery mans iudgement commeth from the Lord.
27 Le méchant est l'abomination du juste; et celui qui marche droit, l'abomination de l'impie.
A wicked man is abomination to the iust, and he that is vpright in his way, is abomination to the wicked.
