Matthieu 8
1 Or, lorsqu'il fut descendu de la montagne, une foule nombreuse le suivit,
And when he had descended from the mountain, great crowds followed him.
2 et voici, un lépreux s'étant approché l'adorait en disant: « Seigneur, si tu le veux tu peux me guérir. »
And behold, a leper, drawing near, adored him, saying, “Lord, if you are willing, you are able to cleanse me.”
3 Et ayant étendu la main, il le toucha en disant: « Je le veux, sois guéri. » Et aussitôt sa lèpre fut guérie.
And Jesus, extending his hand, touched him, saying: “I am willing. Be cleansed.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4 Et Jésus lui dit: « Garde-toi d'en parler à personne; mais va, montre-toi au prêtre et présente l'offrande qu'a prescrite Moïse, pour leur servir d'attestation. »
And Jesus said to him: “See to it that you tell no one. But go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses instructed, as a testimony for them.”
5 Or, lorsqu'il fut entré à Capharnaoum, un centurion s'approcha de lui, en le sollicitant
And when he had entered into Capernaum, a centurion approached, petitioning him,
6 et en disant: « Seigneur, mon serviteur est au lit à la maison, atteint de paralysie et cruellement souffrant. »
and saying, “Lord, my servant lies at home paralyzed and badly tormented.”
7 Il lui dit: « J'irai le guérir. »
And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.”
8 Mais le centurion répliqua: « Seigneur, je ne suis pas digne que tu entres sous mon toit; mais dis seulement un mot, et mon serviteur sera guéri.
And responding, the centurion said: “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed.
9 Car moi aussi je suis un homme placé sous autorité, ayant des soldats sous mes ordres, et je dis à celui-ci: « Va, » et il va; et à un autre: « Viens » et il vient; et à mon esclave: « Fais cela » et il le fait. »
For I, too, am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
10 Or, en l'entendant, Jésus fut émerveillé, et il dit à ceux qui suivaient: « En vérité je vous le déclare, je n'ai trouvé chez personne en Israël une si grande foi;
And, hearing this, Jesus wondered. And he said to those following him: “Amen I say to you, I have not found so great a faith in Israel.
11 mais je vous déclare que plusieurs viendront de l'orient et du couchant et s'attableront avec Abraham et Isaac et Jacob dans le royaume des cieux,
For I say to you, that many shall come from the east and the west, and they shall sit at table with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
12 tandis que les fils du royaume seront jetés dans les ténèbres extérieures; là sera le pleur et le grincement de dents. »
But the sons of the kingdom shall be cast into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
13 Et Jésus dit au centurion: « Va, qu'il te soit fait comme tu as cru. » Et en ce moment-là le serviteur fut guéri.
And Jesus said to the centurion, “Go, and just as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And the servant was healed at that very hour.
14 Et Jésus étant entré dans la maison de Pierre, vit sa belle-mère qui était au lit et avait la fièvre;
And when Jesus had arrived at the house of Peter, he saw his mother-in-law lying ill with a fever.
15 et il toucha sa main et la fièvre la quitta, et elle se leva, et elle le servait.
And he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose up and ministered to them.
16 Mais quand le soir fut venu on lui amena plusieurs démoniaques, et d'un mot il chassa les esprits et il guérit tous les malades; —
And when evening arrived, they brought to him many who had demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word. And he healed all those having maladies,
17 afin que fût accompli ce dont il a été parlé par l'entremise d'Ésaïe le prophète lorsqu'il dit: « C'est lui qui a pris nos infirmités et qui a porté nos maladies. »
in order to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah, saying, “He took our infirmities, and he carried away our diseases.”
18 Or, Jésus se voyant entouré de la foule ordonna de passer sur l'autre rive.
Then Jesus, seeing the great crowds encircling him, gave orders to go across the sea.
19 Et un scribe s'étant approché lui dit: « Maître, je te suivrai où que ce soit que tu ailles. »
And one scribe, approaching, said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you will go.”
20 Et Jésus lui dit: « Les renards ont des terriers et les oiseaux du ciel des abris; mais le Fils de l'homme n'a pas où reposer sa tête. »
And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have dens, and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere to rest his head.”
21 Mais un autre des disciples lui dit: « Seigneur, permets-moi de m'en aller d'abord, et d'enterrer mon père. »
Then another of his disciples said to him, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.”
22 Mais Jésus lui dit: « Suis-moi, et laisse les morts enterrer leurs morts. »
But Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and allow the dead to bury their dead.”
23 Et lorsqu'il fut monté sur une barque, ses disciples le suivirent;
And climbing into a boat, his disciples followed him.
24 et voici une grande tourmente s'éleva sur la mer, en sorte que la barque était couverte par les vagues; mais lui s'était endormi.
And behold, a great tempest occurred in the sea, so much so that the boat was covered with waves; yet truly, he was sleeping.
25 Et s'étant approchés ils l'éveillèrent en disant: « Seigneur, au secours, nous sommes perdus. »
And his disciples drew near to him, and they awakened him, saying: “Lord, save us, we are perishing.”
26 Et il leur dit: « Pourquoi êtes-vous effrayés, gens de peu de foi? » Alors s'étant levé, il gourmanda les vents et la mer, et il se fit un grand calme.
And Jesus said to them, “Why are you afraid, O little in faith?” Then rising up, he commanded the winds, and the sea. And a great tranquility occurred.
27 Or les gens émerveillés disaient: « Quel est celui-ci, que même les vents et la mer lui obéissent? »
Moreover, the men wondered, saying: “What kind of man is this? For even the winds and the sea obey him.”
28 Et quand il fut arrivé sur l'autre rive, dans le pays des Gadaréniens, vinrent à sa rencontre deux démoniaques sortis des tombeaux, et qui étaient si furieux que personne ne pouvait passer par ce chemin-là.
And when he had arrived across the sea, into the region of the Gerasenes, he was met by two who had demons, who were so exceedingly savage, as they went out from among the tombs, that no one was able to cross by that way.
29 Et voici, ils s'écrièrent: « Qu'y a-t-il de commun entre nous et toi, fils de Dieu? Es-tu venu ici avant le temps pour nous torturer? »
And behold, they cried out, saying: “What are we to you, O Jesus, the Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?”
30 Or, loin d'eux paissait un troupeau de nombreux pourceaux.
Now there was, not far from them, a herd of many swine feeding.
31 Mais les démons le sollicitaient en disant: « Si tu nous chasses, envoie-nous dans le troupeau des pourceaux. »
Then the demons petitioned him, saying: “If you cast us from here, send us into the herd of swine.”
32 Et il leur dit: « Allez! » Or étant sortis ils s'en allèrent dans les pourceaux, et voici, tout le troupeau se rua en bas du précipice dans la mer, et ils périrent dans les eaux.
And he said to them, “Go.” And they, going out, went into the swine. And behold, the entire herd suddenly rushed along a steep place into the sea. And they died in the waters.
33 Mais les pâtres s'enfuirent, et s'en étant allés à la ville ils rapportèrent tout ce qui s'était passé et ce qui était advenu aux démoniaques.
Then the shepherds fled, and arriving in the city, they reported on all this, and on those who had had the demons.
34 Et voici, toute la ville sortit à la rencontre de Jésus, et l'ayant vu ils le sollicitèrent de s'éloigner de leur territoire.
And behold, the entire city went out to meet Jesus. And having seen him, they petitioned him, so that he would cross from their borders.
