Lamentations 3
1 Je suis l'homme qui a senti le malheur sous la verge de sa colère.
I am the man that has seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.
2 Il m'a poussé, engagé dans les ténèbres, et non dans la lumière.
He has led me and caused me to walk in darkness, and not in light.
3 Oui, tous les jours Il revient à la charge, et tourne sa a main contre moi.
Surely against me he turns his hand again and again all the day.
4 Il a usé ma chair et ma peau, Il a brisé mes os.
My flesh and my skin he has made old; he has broken my bones.
5 Il m'a cerné, et m'a enveloppé d'amertume et de malaise.
He has built against me, and surrounded me with bitterness and hardship.
6 Il m'a fait entrer dans les lieux sombres, comme ceux qui dès longtemps sont morts.
He has made me to dwell in dark places, like those that have been long dead.
7 Il m'a parqué, pour que je n'aie point d'issue, Il a fait peser sur moi les fers.
He has walled me in, so I can't escape; he has made my chains heavy.
8 Que je crie, que j'appelle du secours, Il ne donne pas accès à ma prière.
Yes, when I cry, and call for help, he shuts out my prayer.
9 Il a muré mes voies de pierres massives, et ruiné mes sentiers.
He has walled up my ways with cut stone; he has made my paths crooked.
10 Il est pour moi l'ourse qui se tient aux aguets, le lion posté en embuscade.
He is to me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in hiding.
11 Il a fait dévier mes voies, et Il m'a déchiré, Il m'a ravagé.
He has obstructed my path, and torn me in pieces; he has made me desolate.
12 Il a bandé son arc, et m'a placé comme un but à ses traits.
He has bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
13 Il a percé mes reins des flèches de son carquois.
He has caused the arrows of his quiver to pierce my inward parts.
14 Je suis la risée de tout mon peuple, et leur chanson tout le long du jour.
I have become a laughingstock to all peoples, and their song all the day.
15 Il m'a rassasié d'amertume, Il m'a abreuvé d'absinthe.
He has filled me with bitterness, he has given me in full measure wormwood.
16 Il a broyé mes dents avec le caillou, Il m'a plongé dans la cendre.
He has also broken my teeth with gravel; he has pressed me down in the dust.
17 Tu as fait déchoir mon âme du salut, j'ai oublié le bonheur,
You have removed my soul far away from peace; I have forgotten what prosperity is.
18 et je dis: C'en est fait de la confiance et de l'espérance que j'avais dans l'Éternel.
And I said, "My strength and my hope has perished from the LORD."
19 Souviens-toi de ma misère et de mon tourment, des herbes amères et vénéneuses!
Remember my affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.
20 A ces souvenirs, mon âme s'abat au dedans de moi.
My soul considers them, and is depressed.
21 Voici ce dont je pénètre mon cœur, et par là je garderai l'espérance:
But this I call to my mind; therefore I have hope:
22 « C'est à la grâce de l'Éternel que [nous devons] de n'être pas anéantis; car ses miséricordes ne s'épuisent pas;
The LORD's faithful love does not cease; his compassion does not fail.
23 elles sont tous les jours nouvelles, ta fidélité est immense. »
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
24 L'Éternel est mon lot, ainsi parle mon âme; aussi j'espère en Lui.
"The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him."
25 L'Éternel est plein de bonté pour ceux qui l'attendent, pour l'âme qui le cherche.
The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him.
26 Il est bon d'attendre avec calme le secours de l'Éternel.
It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
27 Il est bon à l'homme de porter le joug dès sa jeunesse;
It is good for a man that he bear the yoke while he is young.
28 de s'asseoir solitaire et silencieux, quand Il lui impose un fardeau,
Let him sit alone and keep silence when he is disciplining him.
29 de baiser de sa bouche la poussière [en disant: ] Peut-être y a-t-il de l'espoir!
Let him put his mouth to the dust, there may yet be hope.
30 de présenter la joue à qui veut le frapper, de se laisser abreuver d'outrages.
Let him give his cheek to him who strikes him; let him be filled with insults.
31 Car le Seigneur ne rejette pas pour jamais;
For the LORD will not reject forever.
32 car s'il afflige, Il prend pitié dans sa grande miséricorde;
For though he may cause grief, yet he will have compassion according to the abundance of his loving kindness.
33 car ce n'est pas volontiers qu'il humilie et afflige les enfants des hommes.
For he is not predisposed to bring affliction or suffering to human beings.
34 Quand on foule aux pieds tous les captifs de la terre,
To crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth;
35 quand on prévarique dans le jugement d'un homme la face du Très-Haut;
to deprive a man of justice before the face of the Most High,
36 quand on fait tort à un humain dans sa cause, le Seigneur ne le voit-Il pas?
to subvert a man in his cause, the LORD does not approve.
37 A la parole de qui une chose paraît-elle, sans l'ordre du Seigneur?
Who can speak a thing and have it come to pass, unless the LORD has commanded it?
38 Le malheur et le bonheur ne viennent-ils pas de la bouche du Très-Haut?
Doesn't both calamity and good come out of the mouth of the Most High?
39 Pourquoi l'homme accuse-t-il la vie? que chacun s'en prenne à ses propres péchés!
Why does a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?
40 Examinons nos voies et les sondons, et retournons à l'Éternel!
Let us examine and search our ways, and return to the LORD.
41 Élevons nos cœurs en même temps que nos mains vers Dieu qui est dans le ciel.
Let us lift up our heart with our hands to God in the heavens.
42 Nous avons péché, et nous fûmes rebelles; tu ne pardonnas pas.
We have transgressed and have rebelled, and you have not forgiven.
43 Irrité, tu te cachas, et tu nous poursuivis, tu massacras, et tu fus impitoyable.
You have covered yourself with anger and pursued us; you killed without sparing.
44 Tu t'enveloppas dans la nue pour être inaccessible à notre prière.
You have covered yourself with a cloud, so that no prayer can pass through.
45 Tu nous as mis comme des balayures et un opprobre au milieu des nations.
You have made us rubbish and refuse in the midst of the peoples.
46 Tous nos ennemis ouvrent contre nous une large bouche.
All our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.
47 Nous avons eu pour nous la terreur et la fosse, le ravage et la ruine.
Fear and the pit have come on us, devastation and destruction.
48 Des torrents d'eau tombent de mes yeux à cause de la ruine de la fille de mon peuple.
Streams of tears run down from my eyes because of the destruction of the daughter of my people.
49 Mes yeux ruissellent sans trêve ni relâche,
My tears flow and do not cease, without respite,
50 jusqu'à ce que des Cieux l'Éternel regarde et voie;
until the LORD looks down and sees from heaven.
51 mes yeux me font souffrir à cause de toutes les filles de ma cité.
My eyes bring my soul grief, because of all the daughters of my city.
52 Ceux qui me sont gratuitement hostiles, m'ont donné la chasse comme à l'oiseau;
They have chased me relentlessly like a bird, those who are my enemies without cause.
53 ils ont voulu m'arracher la vie dans la fosse, et ils m'ont lapidé;
They have cut off my life in a pit, and have cast a stone on me.
54 les eaux m'ont submergé jusqu'au-dessus de la tête; je disais: C'en est fait de moi!
Waters flowed over my head; I said, 'I am finished.'
55 J'invoquai ton nom, Éternel, du fond de la fosse;
I called on your name, LORD, out of the depths of the pit.
56 tu entendis ma voix: ne dérobe pas ton oreille à mes cris, afin de me délivrer!
You heard my voice; do not hide your ear at my sighs, to my cry.
57 Tu t'approches, quand je t'implore, tu m'as dit: Sois sans peur!
You drew near in the day that I called on you; you said, "Do not be afraid."
58 Seigneur, tu soutiens ma querelle, tu rachètes ma vie.
LORD, you have taken up the case for my soul; you have redeemed my life.
59 Tu vois, Éternel, le tort qu'on me fait: sois juge de ma cause!
You have seen, LORD, the wrong done to me; judge my case.
60 Tu vois toutes leurs vengeances, tous les plans qu'ils forment contre moi.
You have seen all their vengeance and all their plots against me.
61 Tu entends leurs outrages, Éternel, et les plans qu'ils forment contre moi,
You have heard their insults, LORD, and all their plots against me.
62 les propos de mes adversaires, et les pensées qu'ils nourrissent contre moi tout le jour.
The lips of those that rose up against me, and their plots against me all day long.
63 Suis-les, quand ils sont assis, et quand ils se lèvent! je suis leur chanson.
Look their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their mocking song.
64 Paie-leur, Éternel, un salaire conforme aux actes de leurs mains.
You will render to them what they deserve, LORD, according to the work of their hands.
65 Donne-leur l'endurcissement du cœur: que ta malédiction soit pour eux!
You will give them hardness of heart as your curse to them.
66 Poursuis-les dans la colère, et fais-les disparaître de dessous les Cieux de l'Éternel!
You will pursue them in anger, and destroy them from under the heavens of the LORD.
